and it was so interesting, i think, that three comments that four seemed to give up on 'fixing' her. and, that it seems like she has some resentment towards four (tpot 23 scene where shes like 'what does four want?'). purple face does bring up that three needs to focus on saving herself, that others cant fix her, but i think this general relationship that three and four have is preddy comparable to relationships where one individual is struggling (whether having a temporary or chronic type of struggle), and the other person may find themselves lost as to what to do while also struggling themself. four is kind of a fan favorite, so i think it makes sense that four would be the individual, in this relationship, who would kind of be... making the neglectful actions... he can get a little bit more leeway with the audience's perception. it reminds me of the 'dump your puppygirl' discussion, or, in my life experience, supporting someone financially for years, and vice versa, where i have needed that assistance and care from my spouse. on the flip side, we see the opposite of this from match and pencil- pencil repeatedly pushes her away, dismisses her, and refuses to communicate with her (including boundaries, which is a huuuuge contributor to resentment (the relationship killer)). despite all of this, match continues to reach out to pencil and encourage her to open up about her emotions and struggles. shes always been there for pencil. which is kind of key to maintaining close relationships.
