this   was   torture.   this   was   torture   made   worse   by   the   fact   that   it   was   rhysand   doing   it.   but   because   it   was   him,   cassian   didn't   pull   away.   that,   &    because   pulling   away   meant   giving   rhysand   something   to   gloat   about.   that   was   always   the   dilemma,   wasn't   it?   wanting   to   beat   him   at   these   stupid   games   but   also   wanting   to   submit   to   his   high   lord.

(    one   has   happened   more   than   the   other.   there   is   a   sense   of   pride   in   that   too.   )

yes.   goddess,   yes.   muscles   tense   underneath   skin,   adrenaline   pumping   &   blood   rushing   all   through   out.   he   wants   to   speak,   to   laugh   this   all   off   but   the   beast   can   only   grunt   in   response.   just   a   moment   more.   just   a   little   while   longer.   teeth   dig   into   tongue   to   keep   from   begging.   the   white   noise   in   his   ear   rises   in   pitch   as   a   finger   moves   up   the   length   of   a   bone   in   his   wing,   then   slowly   follows   the   trail   of   a   vein   on   the   thin   membrane-

whole   fucking   body   shudders   &    wing   pulls   away   as   cassian   lunges   out   of   his   seat,   snarling.   he   has   to   tug   at   the   string   of   his   leather   pants,   the   knots   loosening   from   where   his   bulge   threatened   to   spill.

a   decision   he   may   have   started   to   regret   when   he   saw   how   amused   cassian   had   been,   hearing   about   this   side   of   the   fae   realm.   too   bad   it   wasn't   as   fun   as   he   had   expected.

it   was   certainly   strange,   that   much   was   true.   the   magic   had   a   different   way   of   working   here;   the   creatures   on   these   lands   far   more...   curious   (   rhysand   told   him   to   play   nice   )   than   what   he   has   seen   in   prythian.   their   magic   was   powerful   yes,   but...   he   felt   hindered.   he   didn't   have   much   magic   to   wield   himself,   not   to   the   same   degree   as   rhysand   or   azriel,   his   ability   in   combat   his   deadliest   weapon.   even   still,   he   felt   too   big   for   his   body,   his   skin   stretched   tight   across   his   muscles,   making   him   restless.

his   wonder   about   the   place   was   quickly   being   smothered   by   this   uncomfortable   sensation.   he   paid   his   respect   where   they   were   due,   made   his   excuses   for   rhysand    &   after   he   was   dismissed   from   the   throne,   stuck   to   the   walls   as   the   gathering   went   on.   his   head   tilts,   neck   taut   as   he   stretches   for   the   hundredth   time.

that's   when   he   sees   cardan.   not   the   only   one   to   be   staring   at   him,   though   certainly   the   only  one   to   be   looking   at   him   like   that.

he   grins,   wide   enough   to   show   off   canines    &   one   wing   extends.   in   comparison   to   the   ones   around   here,   illyrian   wings   are   probably   considered   hideous;   the   membranes   strange   as   they   stretch   further   &   further,   the   dark   curves   of   the   elongated   bones   that   moved   them,   the   veins   that   became   apparent   as   the   skin   stretched   thin.   it   flutters   before   he   tucks   it   back   in.

"    𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗧𝗘   𝗘𝗟𝗔𝗜𝗡   𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚   𝗔𝗧   𝗛𝗜𝗠   𝗔𝗧   𝗦𝗨𝗖𝗛   speed,    throwing   no   doubt   every   bit   of   her   weight   onto   him...    the   beast   of   a   man   doesn't   even   fall   back   a   step.   the   noise   that   escapes   him   is   more   one   of   total   surprise—   thrown   off   by   not   just   her   approach,    but   how   she   clung   to   him.   the   feel   of   her   body   against   his,    the   scent   that   wafted   up   from   her   hair.    a   few   rapid   flutters   of   his   eyelashes   before   he   looks   down   at   her,   brows   furrowed   with   his   mixed   emotions,   hands   so   honorably   keeping   away   from   her   smaller   frame.    she   speaks &...

gone   is   his   concern,    of   any   questions   he   may   have   been   about   to   ask.   his   eyes   immediately   brighten   with   the   flicker   of   wild   mischief,   lips   pulling   back   into   a   grin.    she   wanted   dramatic?   he   could   do   dramatic.   cassian   loved   being   dramatic;    especially   if   it   gave   him   a   chance   to   show   off.    he   had   plenty   to   put   on   display.

both   arms   go   around   her   waist   but   one   palm   slides   up   the   length   of   her   back,    fingers   tangling   with   her   blond   locks   as   it   rests   comfortably   at   the   center.    an   embrace   meant   to   keep   her   secured   against   him,   lest   her   grip   not   be   enough   for   the   take   off.    his   muscles   shift   underneath   her   touch   as   his   wings   flare   open,   stretching   every   inch   wide—   they   flutter,   relieved   to   have   the   space,    &  that   movement   alone   is   enough   to   tousle   their   hair,    rustling   bushes    &  sending   leaves   flying.

"    hold   on   tight.   "   his   tone   still   amused   but   the   instructions   crucial.   one   squeeze   &  they're   off—   their   hair   blown   back   out   of   their   faces   from   the   force   of   which   they   propel   into   the   air.    his   wings   carry   both   their   weights   as   he   flies   on   his   back,    facing   skywards   before   turning   in   the   air   to   fly   properly    &   look   where   he's   going.   which   is   where   again?
