Going to College
Going to college is part of my American Dream. It will help me get an easier chance at going into a career such as pharmacy. Colleges I would like to go to and may have the chance of being accepting in are UCONN and Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. UCONN has an excellent medical field and it’s close to home, but Temple University is also close to home. How do you ask? It’s because my mom’s side of the family live in Philadelphia. Temple also has medical in their choices of studies, but as well as many foreign languages that I would like to learn more about such as Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese. They also have universities stationed in Rome and Tokyo, so Temple would give me the chance to go study abroad.

Making my family proud
Making my family proud is one of my major goals in life. If my family is happy, I am happy as well. I want to be able to payback my parents for all they have used on my siblings and I. A huge payback is for my siblings and my college intuitions. My sister is only one year older than me and my brother is two years younger. It is an almost contiguous entering to college for the next 4 years and then continuing college. This is also why I work very hard in school. To not only gain knowledge, but as well as have the grades that could give me a chance at full scholarships at colleges or even a scholarship. A scholarship could help my family big time. According to the Census ACS 1-year survey, the median household income for Connecticut was $67,098 in 2013, but my household’s income is a lot lower than this income. Not only paying back my family is the goal. Another part of the goal is to become successful. My parents always feel so content when they hear people talk about me and my siblings, us being caring or being successful at what we do. When my family is happy, I feel happy as well.
Pharmacist Salary
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) states that the median annually salary for a pharmacist was $116,500 for 2013. This average annual salary breaks down to $56.09 dollars per hour based on the average 2,080 hours a full-time person works in one year. For the lower 10% wage or employed pharmacists, the earnings were less than $89,280 ($42.92 per hour), and the upper 10% earned more than $147,350 ($70.84 per hour). Of course the average pharmacist salary will fluctuate based on the type of healthcare industry. For “other general merchandise stores,” the average annual salary was $128,910 ($61.98 per hour) in 2012. In department stores, the average annual pharmacist salary was $120,540 ($57.95 an hour). Pharmacies and drugs store pharmacists reported an average annual salary of $117,850 ($56.67 per hour). For common grocery stores, pharmacists earned an average salary of $116,000 annually or around $55.77 per hour. Finally, in local, private, and state hospitals, the median average annual salary was $114,100 ($54.86 per hour). In 2013, the highest paying state for a pharmacist was Alaska with an average annual salary of $133,030 ($65.96 per hour). For the highest number of employed pharmacists by state, California comes on top with an estimated 26,810 pharmacists making an average annual salary of $129,560 ($62.29 an hour).
Find a career and pursue it
Part of my dream is to find a career. As a child, I was always into singing and dancing. I had always wanted to become a great musical actress that made my way to Hollywood or Broadway, but many people probably have dreamed of that as well. As time went on, I started to realize that that fantasy is not realistic. Yes I do love to do those things still, but I had to start thinking about doing what I love to do, but as well as getting profit from it. I know it’s pretty bad to get a job for money, but there’s no denial in needing money and we do jobs to get money. In the first 2 years of high school, I had no idea what to do. I was completely lost on what I should do, but it’s okay. America gives us so many chances to choose what we want to do. This year, while taking Chemistry, I learned that I am pretty good in math and chem. So, now I am starting to think about going into the medical field such as into Pharmacy. I enjoy chemistry and as well as helping people. Pharmacists also make quite an amount of money. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median annually salary for a pharmacist was $116,500 for 2013. Because I am thinking about the medical field, I am able to narrow down my choices from all the careers you can go into. Although I may be starting my career choices now, it doesn’t mean you have to start now. Maybe you have already chosen what you want to do, maybe you haven’t yet. It’s okay, I still don’t fully know what I want to do, but sooner or later we both will find it.

Exploring the World
One of my biggest dreams is to travel the world. Travelling the world gives me the opportunity to learning directly new languages and cultures besides learning it in a classroom. Classrooms do not give as much as experiencing the real life things. There are many places I would love to go to. The main ones would have to be South Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, China, London, and Paris. I have always been interested in foreign languages because I am Vietnamese and Vietnamese was my first language so it is not truly difficult to learn Asian languages or Latin languages. Korea and Japan has always been a huge interest especially in their culture and arts. They have so many cities that have both modern culture and traditional culture mixed. Although America is the diverse country, travelling around the world will give me more chances to gain friends from different backgrounds. It would also be cool to have friends on the opposite side of the earth!

I try to keep it real. I don't have time to worry about what I'm projecting to the world. I'm just busy being myself.

Dami Im - Alive Lyrics
I'm coming out from the shadows Shooting straight like an arrow Ain't nothing gonna slow me down, slow me down, yeah I'm gonna flow like a cool breeze Stand taller than a palm tree Ain't nothing gonna cut me down, cut me down, yeah (Bridge) I remember all the words you said That a crazy heart can never rest And when your light starts fading out, fading out (Chorus) Don't keep waiting for an open door Break the lock and get something more Make a move 'cause you're alive, alive We ain't gonna get a second chance Life ain't nothing but a crazy dance Learn the moves 'cause you're alive Never had to go it solo 'Cause your love raped me head to toe All I wanted was to make you proud, make you proud, yeah I just wanna hold you so close In return be your rain coat When the rain wants to drown you out, drown you out, yeah (Bridge) (Chorus)
We're alive, we're alive, we're alive, live We're alive, we're alive, we're alive, live We're alive, we're alive, oh we're alive, alive You can always break the rules You can always dare to dance But you gotta take a chance, a chance You can always break the rules You can always dare to dance But you gotta take a chance, a chance (Chorus) We're alive, we're alive, we're alive, live We're alive, we're alive, we're alive, live We're alive, we're alive, oh we're alive, alive (repeat)
I'm happy being myself, which I've never been before. I always hid in other people, or tried to find myself through the characters, or live out their lives, but I didn't have those things in mine.
Angelina Jolie
Who do I want to become?
This is the question that I have asked myself since middle school. Who do I want to become? Although I have not fully found out who or what I want to become, I have found a beginning of an answer this year. I want to be me. Yes, be me, that is part of my American Dream. I want to “flow like a cool breeze, stand taller than a palm tree” like how Dami Im says in her song Alive. I want to have the success and confidence of being myself.Â

Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.
Confucius
Never Losing Hope
Part of my American Dream is to never lose hope. There are times where you feel hopeless and failure, but like the quote “even your worst days only have twenty four hours”(pinterest). Also if you make a mistake, there is the Confucius saying “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall”(brainyquote). I like these quotes because they give me a reminder that it’s going to be okay and help me move on from bad days. Never losing hope is part of my American Dream because a dream cannot be achieved without hard work. If there is no happiness, it would have to be called an American Nightmare.
