in my theology class and the prof just said polytheistic gods aren’t real.
why teach us to “respect other religions” when you draw the line on polytheistic religions?
that's why i love one of my uni teacher.
he teaches us the philosophy of politics which means that we are seeing a lot of important political figures in history and analysing and learning about their philosophy. so of course religion is talked about.
but one thing that he told and thought us at the very beginning is that in that course we have to adopt a "methodological atheism". which means that we should not see the religions in their spiritual way because what's important is how useful religion can be used by the government to make people accepts some things in the name of faith.
this methodological atheism simply consists of pretending that no god exists, that they're all invented by humans, no matter what our personal beliefs are. because like that we can 1) fully interpret them as a tool used but the governments and 2) put ALL religions at the same level.
and what i really love about that teacher is that he always talked about this and religions in general with the same respect for EVERY beliefs. he genuinely put pagan and polytheist beliefs at the same level as christianity or islam for exemple.
and honestly even if that methodological atheism means that i have to pretend that the gods aren't real (which i'm fine with because i'm confident enough in my faith to be able to seperate it from that philosophical point of you that we have to keep in that course), it feels nice to see your beliefs be put at the same levels as religions that are usually considered more real than yours.

Devotional acts can be a perfect way for you to honour the gods if you can't make offerings or if you have to practice in secret (of course you can still do it in addition to typical offerings). But always remember that they don't need to be anything big and sometimes just taking a shower, getting out of bed or eating can be a devotional act if your mental health is making it difficult for you to practice. And even if you don't have the energy to practice at all, always remember that the gods understand and love you nonetheless<3

When you step into sunlight, you honor Apollo. When you admire the moon, you honor Artemis. When you admire cloud shapes, you honor Hera. When you smell petrichor, you honor Zeus. When you laugh at a joke, you honor Hermes. When your body twitches to dance at a particularly upbeat music, you honor Dinoysus. When you enjoy the first bite of your breakfast, you honor Demeter. When you choose your peace over any conflict, you honor Athena. When you warm yourself up by sheltering yourself in blanket, you honor Hestia. When you listen to Ocean sounds, you honor Poseidon. When you smell flowers, you honor Persephone. When you admire the coolness of first day of Autumn, you honor Hades. When you wear your favourite jewellery, you honor Hephaestus. When you smile, you honor Aphrodite. When you exercise, you honor Ares. When you light a torch in a dark room, you honor Hekate.
Your body is a shrine to Gods, your being an act of devotion for them. You, by yourself, are enough for them.

I think there's hope for me.
I love you, Lady Hestia, thank you for keeping me safe and warm. I don't always know how to take care of myself, but you carry me when I can't keep myself up.
she so dear to me
I see a piece of Lilith in every mistreated, abused, opressed person I know that turned that into pure power.

"_ isn't welcome in pagan spaces"
"if you do / don't do _, you're not a real witch"
"you must do _ in this specific way or it won't work"
hey so who exactly are you to tell someone else what their craft should look like? or what is / isn't welcome within a pagan space? unless it is your own private circle, you have absolutely zero authority to dictate another pagan's path or how they choose to practice. that is between them and the gods, not you. what a narcissistic thing it is to believe that you hold power or control over another person's capacity for magick. how ignorant it is to believe that your way is the only "correct" way to cast or manifest.
as someone who was born and raised within a large coven of pagans & witches of many different cultures, i will confidently say that there really aren't any strict "rules" for most pagan practices. true magick comes from within the individual, not from a textbook or an internet article or (gods forbid) a tiktok video. personally, i would encourage my fellow witches to create their own unique methods for spellwork, deity worship, manifestaion, etc because when it comes from a place of creativity and authenticity, it truly is so much more powerful. that power is not diluted just because it looks a bit different from one person to another.
also, as pagans of the modern age, we eventually must accept the fact that the times have changed, and are still currently changing quite rapidly. it is okay for our traditions to evolve as we do, as both a species and as a society. the gods do not expect us to live in the exact same way as we did centuries ago, nor should we expect ourselves to. open-mindedness is key.
always remember, your path is yours alone. walk it with pride. ⛤
Whatever relationship someone has with the divine is their business. If it doesn't affect you, leave it be. Even if it does somehow affect you, I would still encourage you to leave it be. No one can speak for the gods, and no one can say, with certainty, that someone's connection to the divine is "wrong". Agree to disagree, if you really feel the need to argue about the validity of someone's worship.
