Shadows creeped into every corner her gaze could reach. Casting a shadow over her already dark eyes, what a hassle this was. Nights like these reminded Nayra just why she shouldnāt take the night shifts. And yet. A sigh. Well, whatever, no point worrying over it now.Ā
A cat or three was common enough in Nayraās path that sheād begun carrying treats for them. Sometimes in exchange for being able to pet them, sometimes just because she felt like it. Still⦠she tilted her head. Had she ever seen this specific cat before?Ā
Might be a stray who just found the neighbourhood.Ā
Her steps slowed to a stop. Yep, definitely a new cat. She fumbled through her purse but, when she looked up, the cat began⦠shifting? Changing? It was a strange sight. One second, she was looking at a cat, the next some⦠random guy appeared.Ā
And she looked just a bit silly with a cat treat in hand while staring at him. Especially when their eyes met.Ā
Nayra raised an eyebrow, glancing over at the words on the page a second time, then at the one who had written them. A stranger, more or less, but still, what a strange declaration to make. Was that not the standard?
ā ⦠Good ? I guess ?Ā ā
She tilted her head at the other, folding her hands together as they passed the notebook back to her. People could be so confusing or maybe Nayra just never had all the pieces of any puzzle.
ā Is there a reason I should think youāre dumb ?Ā ā
PROMPTS FROM ELECTRA HEART BY MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS
* Ā assorted lines from the 2012 album, some slightly adjusted to suit a roleplay format, adjust as necessary
i don't care if you think i'm dumb.
i'm the girl you'd die for.
i'll chew you up and i'll spit you out.
that's what young love is all about.
pull me closer and kiss me hard.
life gave me some lemons, so i made some lemonade.
i think you're gonna be my biggest fan.
all i ever wanted was the world.
you say that i'm kinda difficult, but it's always someone else's fault.
i got you wrapped around my finger.
you can count on me to misbehave.
would you do anything for me?
would you get down on your knees for me?
i'm sad to the core.
i wanna be adored.
i really don't know why it's such a big deal.
you're never gonna love me, so what's the use?
what's the point in playing a game you're gonna lose?
you're too proud to say that you made a mistake.
you're a coward 'til the end.
why don't we just pretend?
i can't let you go.
you only ever touch me in the dark.
it never happens like you think it really should.
deception and perfection are wonderful traits.
i don't belong to anyone.
we're all very lovely 'til we get to know each other.
i guess you could say that my life's a mess.
deep down, all you want is love.
you're hard to hug. tough to talk to.
i never fall asleep when you're in my bed.
the only time you open up is when we get undressed.
you don't love me. big fucking deal.
i'll never tell you how i feel.
sometimes i ignore you so i feel in control.
come on, baby. let's just get drunk.
i send my best regards from hell.
i would sell my sorry soul if i could have it all.
my life is a play.
that's just how you are with love.
you may be good looking, but you're not a piece of art.

[ inbox call. ] āI donāt believe it matters much whether Iām busy or Iām not busy. You need assistance do you not? I can provide and, you know, I sort of have to.ā
At first, it hadnāt mattered much to her. An offer was fine enough, it was persistence that seemed to grate on her. Just a bit. What had started with an off handed comment of his many duties transformed into a strange comment from the other. Her gaze narrowed, slightly, but a sigh had yet to fall out.
It was not quite that Nayra did not wish to be helped, it was that she didnāt care to be indebted. Still⦠she stared ahead, there was enough Darkness there to concern anyone of a low enough combat level. Unfortunately, Nayra fell into that category.Ā
Most days, it didnāt matter, today⦠well, a book of hers had proclaimed the existence of some rare plant within the Darkened forest. If she had the opportunity to find it, why wouldnāt she take it? Still, it did mean that some interrupted her.
āOne person falling through the cracks shouldnāt be that big of a concern but whatever. If it really is such an obligation, keep a fast enough pace. Inform me if you find something of this appearance. Do not do anything to it, otherwise I may just sneak in without your presence next time.ā
And be careful enough not to get caught, of course. It was then that her sigh finally voiced itself.Ā
ź«ā got the brainworms for it so, Iāve added an eah verse for Nayra !
ź«ā still gotta make the profiles for all my other verses which Iāll probably get to that sometime next month, itās been busy for a bit now but things should slow down soonish
To lose a book once, that was fine, so long as it was returned in time. To lose a book, not twice, not thrice, but four separate times? Well, that was just inciting her wrath. Right after she found where said book was, of course.Ā
It felt a bit like a wild goose chase, except she was more similar to a headless chicken looking for said goose than anything else. Whatever. The book was around here⦠somewhere. It had to be, unless the book borrower was lying to her, which⦠was not out of the realm of possibilities. A sigh as she looked ahead. Well, nothing else left to do but⦠ask someone.Ā
As if today couldnāt get any worse.Ā
Hmmm, perhaps⦠Authority was easy to spot among the crowd, mostly because of othersā reactions. Itād do as a half decent starting point. Maybe she wouldnāt even need to stick around all that long anyways.Ā
āAre you familiar with the general layout of this area? And where most things go? If not, then, are you at least able to point me to someone who does?ā

āĀ is this what you [origin/nationality/family] call dancing? Ā ā
ā Ā then i will introduce you to some pretty young noblemen instead. Ā ā
ā Ā allow him his fancy. Ā ā
ā Ā but no warfare tonight, i trust. Ā ā
ā Ā oh, dear me, iām no dancer, let me find a better partner for you. Ā ā
ā Ā i can think of nothing less appealing than an evening of watching other people dance. Ā ā
ā Ā will you please come and set an example for your companions? Ā ā
ā Ā would you take a drink with me? Ā ā
ā Ā i may not be [name], but may i dance with you? Ā ā
ā Ā may i have a waltz? Ā ā
ā Ā have some more wine, my wine. Ā ā
āĀ take a dance in the garden, my garden.Ā ā
ā Ā the pretty young noblewomen of [place/family] would delight to have you paw at them. Ā ā
ā Ā but if i were to become a woman with half your grace and beauty, [name]⦠i would be proud and happy. Ā ā
ā Ā you look⦠as lovely as ever, [name]. Ā ā
ā Ā itās a relaxation to dance with you, [name]. Ā ā
ā Ā iāll save you the third dance just because itās your first ball. Ā ā
ā Ā he has the strength of an ox. and sadly the grace of an ox as well. Ā ā
ā Ā the whole party is here to help my father prepare for the party. Ā ā
ā Ā you and your idiot matchmaking. Ā ā
ā Ā you have shown yourself to be a fine dancer, despite all your protests. Ā ā
ā Ā do you not dance, mr. [name]? Ā ā
ā Ā though i am an old married man, i would enjoy dancing with [you/name]. Ā ā
ā Ā will you stay for the [name/celebration] ball, [name]? Ā ā
ā Ā oh, isnāt this room just like a fairyland? Ā ā
ā Ā tonight is for celebrations. Ā ā
ā Ā how do you like my hair?Ā i did it myself. Ā ā
ā Ā oh, i had the most wonderful time! Ā it was out of a dreamā Ā ā
ā Ā where do you want to be taken? Ā ā
ā Ā if i may have the pleasure, will you join me in a [dance]? Ā ā
ā Ā she hates us both. hardly a reason for courtship, surely. Ā ā
ā Ā you fear for the constancy of your loverās affections? Ā ā
ā Ā put on your best finery, [name]. your most beautiful dress. youāre coming with me. Ā ā
ā Ā itās the last dance. Ā ā
ā Ā there is a response to such an insult. but it would not be appropriate here. Ā ā
ā Ā if i may be so bold, i would ask for your advice. Ā ā
ā Ā i would dance with you, if you will ask me. Ā ā
ā Ā sprezzatura. i have heard it means ā the effortless display of grace ā. Ā ā
ā Ā i see no evidence of sprezzatura. Ā ā
ā Ā i care nothing for your pretty young noblewomen. Ā ā
ā Ā if you will be my partner, [name]. Ā ā
ā Ā it would not be improper for us to dance. Ā ā
ā Ā [name] told me she does not mean to dance this evening, but i do see a young lady whom i should like to see dancing. Ā ā
ā Ā i dare say, but if iām not to dance with you, iām getting out of this operetta and going home. Ā ā
ā Ā i come with some admirable qualities. Ā ā
ā Ā [name] looks quite entrancing, does she not? Ā ā
Quirk : Overwrite ā depending on her understanding of a concept, she can āoverwriteā its properties for a time (duration & power is dependent on her energy levels)
Age : 16-18 (depending on the year) / Birthday : January 22nd
Class : 1-A
Orientation : Aspec (somewhere on the aromantic & asexual spectrum) , doesnāt care to label beyond thatĀ
Personality : Reserved , Calculating , Direct ā Nayra is not one to open up to others , preferring to stick to the sidelines. While their expressions leave much to be desired , she typically speaks her mind often enough to always know what sheās thinking. A hero out of convenience yet she puts her all into every rescue. āNo point in doing anything halfwayā
Habits : Staring into your soul while daydreaming , flicking her fingers when understimulated , slinking into the background rather than making herself known
In the city of Musutafu , there lived a rather reclusive child. She spent many of her days ruminating with her heavily curated bedroom-turned-library. While , unlike most of the kids in her class , she held no desire to be a hero , it seemed near impossible to avoid the role. Constant mentions of how she would be a great fit for a hero & how she should think her options through some more & how another extension could do her some good & on & on & on.
A horrid situation to be in , she was about done with it all when a realisation struck her family. To be a mediocre-to-low support hero & a librarian was always an option ! Easy , right ? So would someone explain to her why she was in a class constantly targeted by villains ?!
Class 1-A of UA was a great place to be & yet⦠every other month or week or event or whatever else ended in some fight with some villain & placed her class in the spotlight. Just how was she supposed to be a background hero like this ?! At least her Overwrite quirk wasnāt anywhere near as flashy⦠plus ultraā¦
Within the city of Musutafu , Nayra lived a rather simple childhood. While her family was nowhere near rich, they had enough to get by & that was enough for all involved. Nayraās quirk manifested only a few days after her 4th birthday. At first , it was considered to be the ability to Overwrite taste & nothing more , as seen by her making as many vegetables taste like sweet treats.Ā
The other senses came in similarly mundane settings. Touch / feeling came when she instinctively used her quirk to make a vaccine feel like a light tap. Smell came when she couldnāt stand the smell of fish in the supermarket (transformed into the smell of onigiri). Hearing when she didnāt want to hear a balloon pop (sounded like a bubble popping instead). & sight when her bookās sprayed edges began to fade (transformed back to its original state).Ā
Overtime , Nayra grew more and more curious about the specifics of her quirk. Her mother was a scientist & encouraged this curiosity greatly. With her help , they began conducting experiments & logging the extent to which her quirk could be used. The experiments themselves were largely harmless , with only a few ending in minor injuries (falling over from overexerting herself , typically).Ā
Still , children are rather reckless beings & Nayra had yet to learn the lesson of moderation so , at age 10 , she decided to see how useful her quirk was in combat. Villain attacks were semi common & what better chance did she have than a small time villain attacking ? On her way home from elementary school , she spotted one & took her chance.Ā
Of course , a villain wouldnāt take a childās makeshift consent form for an experiment very seriously. Halfway through her recitation of the conditions of the experiment , they ran to attack her. Her instincts were a lot slower than any heroesā so she only managed to Overwrite the concept of their speed to slow seconds away from being punched.Ā
It was then that she learnt the impact of fear on her quirk. It made her use too much energy , Overwriting to an overblown extent. The villain stood there , frozen in time for many moments. A hero hadnāt turned up yet. No one else seemed to notice the strange scene outside of wanting to take photos of the scene. It was up to Nayra to act , however ā
She was still a child. Too much of a child. So , instead of finishing the fight , she ran & ran & ran & ran until she reached her room. Only there did she find any semblance of safety. She never did any experiments on combat after (until her entry in UA).
By her teenage years , everyone began thinking of what they wanted to be when they were older. Nayra had always known , though , so filling out her dream job & high school applications were easy peasy. Or so sheād thought but every single time , her homeroom teacher would look at her with this⦠strange look. Like sheād done something surprising but in a bad way.Ā
Of course , with a quirk like hers , it seemed like a no brainer to be a hero. Not to Nayra , though. She was just as surprised by the prospect as her teacher was at her being a librarian. Extensions upon extensions were given to her , over & over she was told to āapply herselfā. After the 3rd time , annoyance stirred inside her & she vented to her family.Ā
That was , of course , when her dearest aunt came up with a great compromise. Study to be a hero for a bit , end up as one of the support heroes / part time heroes & be a librarian as her main job. With such a perfect plan , Nayra finally put UA down as her top priority for high school.
She passed the exams with flying colours , though that fear kicked in again , causing many of her Overwrites to be inconsistent in precision & strength. Something to work on while she was here & with that , her admission into UA was a done deal !
ļ½”Ė š šš š šššššš Ā·Ā·Ā· a collection of campus devotion, reckless athletes, and the girls who didn't mean to fall for any of it. genre: romance, slow burn, hurt and comfort, college drama.
The study session was your idea. You haven't opened your book once.
I know what people say about me. I'm asking what you think.
You're the only person on this campus who treats me like I'm more than my jersey number.
We said no feelings. I think I'm really bad at rules.
You left your hoodie at my place three weeks ago. I've been sleeping in it. Don't make it weird.
Practice ran late. I know. I'm sorry. Please don't be asleep yet.
The whole team thinks we're together. When were you going to tell me you didn't correct them?
I don't bring people to my games. I got you a ticket. Show up.
You tutored me all semester. The least I can do is take you to dinner. A real one.
I've kissed a lot of girls at this school. I keep thinking about the one I haven't.
Tell me again why this is such a bad idea.
That thing you said after the game. Did you mean it or were you just caught up in the moment?
I asked around about you before I talked to you. I'm not embarrassed about that.
I've never had someone wait up for me before. I didn't know what to do with it so I panicked.
Everyone on the team knows I'm gone for you. I'm the last one to say it out loud.
Stop apologizing for taking up space in my life. I made room on purpose.
I told coach I was injured. I'm not injured. I just needed to see you.Ā
You came to the away game. You hate away games.
I'm not good at this. I'm good at hockey and not much else. But I want to try. For you.
The girl I was pretending to date is the only one I actually want. Life is funny like that.
Draft day is coming and I'm more scared of losing you than losing my shot.
I've been in love with you since the library. Third floor. Two years ago. You had headphones in.
Don't let me sign that contract without knowing if you'd come with me.
You're the smartest person in any room you walk into. I don't know why you're in mine.
The bet was stupid and I knew it was stupid and I did it anyway because it meant spending time with you.
You deserve someone who shows up. I'm working on being that person. Just don't give up on me yet.
My teammates are idiots but they're not wrong about this one.
I've never been nervous before a game. I'm nervous right now and the game isn't for six hours.
You said you didn't want anything serious. I've been trying to be okay with that. I'm not okay with it.
I graduate in May. So do you. I don't want the thing between us to fizzle out.Ā
I know you're not mine. I also know I'd do anything to change that.
The whole campus is at that party. I'd rather be here. With you. On your couch. Watching whatever you want.
You looked at me different after the game last week. Why?
Tell me what you want. Not what you think I can handle. What you actually want.
I've been the fun one, the easy one, the no-strings one. I don't want to be that with you.
You're the only reason I made it through finals week. I'm not sure you know that.
I don't do mornings. I did this morning. I'd do every morning. That terrifies me.
The long distance thing scares me. You scare me. I'm choosing scared.
I'm not asking you to wait. I'm asking you to want to.
It stopped being fake somewhere around week two. I just didn't know how to tell you.
You're it for me. I know that's a lot. I know we're twenty-two. I know. I don't care.

Though Ann apologised, Nayra knew better than to expect anything to change. If the many times Ryuji had cringed over this was enough to go off of⦠Iām going to be haunted by these quotes all week, arenāt I? Even so, a sparkle of fondness, something softer than her typically sharp gaze, creeped out. Something reserved only for her friends.
They rolled her eyes, shaking her head. āAs if. Pretty sure that one turned me away from any othersādonāt get any ideas either. I know we agreed to a sleepover butā¦āĀ
Her gaze met Annās, something of a sigh escaping her. It came out a bit more like a puff of air but still. āWell, I guess I could watch another one, but only if youāll actually watch one of my favourite movies too. Canāt be the only one suffering, right?ā
