Please don't ask me what I've done to be happy and to live my truth, unless you don't want to hear about the heartache and loss and fire and grief. I simply can't tell you that it's been sunny days and clear skies all of the time. I can't tell you, "Here, do these three things and your life will be amazing". It's in the small details and the moments of everyday that make up the grand painting of our lives. We're always looking for easy. What's the easiest way to do this? What's the fastest route to get there? How can I learn this without putting in the effort to really understand? Friend, if you're looking for an easy way...you've already lost. No, it hasn't been a smooth journey. It's been down right terrifying and devastating at times. CONTROL. Why do we as humans, want so much control? Control comes in so many shapes and forms: religion, marriages, friendships, families, politics, etc. We have the choice to let it go. As we stop letting people control us, and when we step away from those we love and admire and care about...we can give them space to be free. Just a step back will do. A step back can allow openness. A step back can change your perspective. A step back can create inspiration and growth and a new respect for others and yourself. A step back can allow for new breath to your suffocating lungs. No one wants to be controlled! I think about Jesus...He did not tolerate control, nor did he teach it. He loved. He lead by example. He was light. Light draws...it does not control. We can influence and inspire by just being who WE are, as individuals. We are not puppets. We need to stop playing the victim and stop dominating our relationships and go live OUR purpose. #heartcapsules

Meet Marshaya. Times like this morning, leave me absolutely no doubt that there is a living God looking down on each of us. This lovely, tender-hearted girl, with an old soul started talking to me while I was stopped on the trail. She wanted to know how to get to a certain place and after researching, realized it was too far for her to walk. She was in a dress and sandals, so I offered for her to walk with me back to my car and I would drive her from there. In the short amount of time we were together, her story astounded me. She's 18 and staying at the Salvation Army. She LOVES to cook and looking for work. Please let me know if you know of anyone looking for restaurant help!! Her family has disowned her. She's been abused. She believes mightily in God and Christ. She has a huge heart and beautiful soul. She has no friends. She was born in Austin but has been living in Elgin, but back in Austin because there's more opportunity. She's seeking and wanting to do the right thing. She was so thankful. My heart....ugh! Loved her instantly. She is fighting and not giving up. These are not coincidences. These are moments of pure divinity. #humananddivineconnections #thankful

Nature has a way of rearranging itself; constantly changing and shifting. The same trails I have walked before, no longer look like the same place. Nature forces us to take different routes by throwing things down in front of us that cause us to change our perspective and look for other options. We know where we want to go but sometimes the journey leads us in a very different direction from what we had envisioned. Often, it's much more messy, but so necessary to really see a more accurate picture of yourself; to see how you adjust to pressure and how well you handle situations where only love is needed. Nature has a way of bending, twisting and even breaking things in order for something new to bare and reveal itself. We were not created to remain the same; to resist change. I believe we as parents (I’m not saying all parents share this same feeling), assume that we create life, by giving life to our children. We don’t create life…we’re mere vessels to harbor and grow life. I don’t own my children, anymore than anyone owns me. God is the only Creator of Life. He chose us. He chose us to be on this earth, at this particular place and time, to be a part of a much grander plan than what we could ever imagine. We matter. We belong. We are meant to be. We were made to be great, because we are not man-made, but God-made. I am not here to judge you, nor devalue what you believe. Call it what you will…but I call it God. Believe that you matter. Pretty much sums up how I've felt the last couple of days. It's not always sunshine and blue skies and happy faces and light hearts. Sometimes there is sadness and hurt and confusion and pain and dark skies. I don't want sympathy. I just want you to know that I'm not perfect. I have days where I lose faith and feel disconnected from myself and others. I always feared these times and I guess I still do to a certain extent. But, I have learned that it is ok to feel everything that shows up. It's there for a reason. I want to learn how to ask questions that would get to the root of my emotions and feelings. I need to be real and honest with myself and put ego aside. It's God's way of showing me that I can't do it without Him. #heartcapsules #lessons #faith
