A beauty but a funny girl

“No, not at all. You just told me that you were writing a thesis paper on Twilight,” he said with a laugh taking the seat beside her again. “I don’t know what it says about me, but that was the most interesting thing I’ve heard all day.” Alex smirked and set his glass on the table after taking a drink, turning his full attention back to the other. “Tell me about this thesis paper. I’m intrigued.”

She chuckled, tilting her head slightly with a nod. “That does say something, hope your job isn’t that boring,” she said, though she was pleasantly surprised that he said he was intrigued; she honestly didn’t think anyone would be intrigued by her paper topic except herself. “I’m working on proving that the Twilight series promoted unhealthy and potentially dangerous dating habits on impressionable teenage girls. I know, hot take, Twilight bad, but at least I’m using textual evidence to back up my claims instead of the whole ‘vampires sparkle’ bullshit.” She was about to say more, but she knew she could talk someone’s ear off when she got started on literature, terrible or otherwise. So, she gave him a chance to respond.

“Of course. I’ve been taught well.” Maks raised an eyebrow when she went into a little of a tangent, smirk growing on his face. He laughed as she explained. “I have no idea what I was expecting when I saw you walking around with Twilight, but I can’t say that I’m disappointed.” He met her gaze with a smirk, before leaning over to put his bows down. He reached out and held out his hand. “Maks, by the way. I’m not sure if we’ve met before.” Maks smiled, nodding at the book. “What are you studying? Sounds weirdly intense.”

She mirrored his smirk, reaching out and shaking his outstretched hand. “Rose.” she said. “Don’t worry, we haven’t met, I’m kind of a shut in.” She was joking. Well, half joking. She shook her head at the book, as if it’s mere existence insulted her (which honestly, it did). “I’m studying Creative Writing and minoring in English Literature,” she explained. “I wanna write young adult novels, but I don’t want to write for an impressionable audience and spread bad messaging, you know?” She held up the book as an example. “Study history or you’re doomed to repeat it.” She chuckled halfheartedly before nodding towards the bows. “So is almost killing people your job? Or just a hobby?”

♕ —- “I think most murders can be classified as a bit of an overreaction.” MJ looked up at the other girl and simply shrugged. “I was watching this youtube video of Murder mystery and Make up tutorial and that was one of the stories. Definitely taking candy off my Christmas list this year.”

“There... there are murder mystery make up tutorials?” she asked, blinking at the new information. “I’ve never hear of that. The closest thing I’ve seen is people lip syncing to comedians while doing make-up on TikTok.” 

Alex laughed. “Okay, good. Hold on a sec.” He smirked and went to get them both drinks, coming back a few moments later with two in hand. Alex gave her one, leaning against the table beside her. “No offense. you looked like you needed it. Rough day?”

Rose watched him to make sure he didn’t do anything to her drink when he got it from the bartender (better safe than sorry, after all) and took it from him with a “Thanks.” She took a sip before saying “No offense taken, it was rough. I think my professor is being misogynist about my thesis paper. I feel like he thinks because I’m a girl writing about Twilight, I must be one of those twihard idiots that actually liked the books. I don’t think he’s giving me enough credit that I do, in fact, have a brain.” She took another sip before awkwardly adding “Sorry... that was a lot of information.”

“Nah. I tend to not murder people for the fun of it. I try to at least have a reason for it.” Maks smirked and put the bow away, before looking up at her when she turned the book around. He opened his mouth to say something, before shutting it. He settled on giving her an amused look, smirk back on his face. “So. Team Edward or Team Jacob, then?”

“No big deal.” He smiled, putting the arrow away. “For the record, I’m glad I didn’t kill you.” Maks gave her a teasing look, nodding at the book in her hands. “Must be pretty interesting to be able to walk into a warzone. What is it, if you don’t mind me asking?”
