i could totally say this better if i spent more time writing this but i think one of the things that really draws me to lolita is how it's a very extreme/performative femininity. i've always been really interested in the concept of "someone who looks really feminine/like a girl but isn't a girl" and i kind of think of lolita as similar to that, but anyone can be a lolita.

I think it’s something like how lolita encapsulates the platonic ideal of a girl or better yet a princess which doesn’t have to be done by a girl (platonic idealism, I mean). for some lolitas in that sense, it’s like drag, almost. I suppose the major difference is the fact that drag is more like an exaggeration or a satirical interpretation whilst lolita is an ideal or a romantic approach to a world that doesn’t truly exist or to a idea of girls that is absent outside of fantasy and tales. it’s as if the lolita lives in a world where a girl is a princess and a princess is a girl. It’s like in all-woman theatre, where women who portray the prince become the platonic ideal of a prince— effeminate, kind and charming— unprovoked by the implication of heterosexuality, almost. It is because we can encapsulate the princess in a loving, quintessential way, without being a “girl”. a degendering of the princess?
