@romeoverga location: Kadir's Lab, Labyrinth notes: upgrade from the dusty catacombs
Truthfully, the last few months had been a dream; the world had been to hell and back, but Kadir didn't remember that. Wrapped up in himself, memories of things that hadn't happened weren't productive or conducive to his work. Kadir had focused his energies on what The Eye had approved under its new regime. The development of treatment options for volatiles and leeches had been a stroke of genius on Sanem's part. Kadir was sad to see her go, but the Soul had more room to expand his interests in her absence. Despite popular discourse, fertility issues persisted among the elves, the autonomous works of the warforged that had been built from his early designs were imperfect, and while the Clockwork creatures had nearly wiped out the world there was still potential there. It was a shame they weren't allowed to bring in test subjects anymore and that The Eye was committed solely to willing volunteers, but Kadir was resolved to work with the resources in front of him.
"Romeo?" Kadir greeted, his voice was warm as ever, but when he looked up and saw Romeo with the escort that had brought him down into Kadir's lab, he had to quickly check his watch to ensure he hadn't forgotten anything. Kadir had told security about Romeo if the other had ever wanted to come visit him, now he was glad that he did. His smile broadened a bit further, charming but completely aloof, "I don't think I forgot anything this time, did you come out all this way to visit?" Kadir waved the escort off, "I have a rotation at Lupercal's clinic next week; if you need your shots, that'll be the time to come in." Kadir was excited to spend some time in lycan city, he was hoping to collect some samples while he was there. Discreetly, of course.
He didn't know how to approach the man. Romeo usually knew, but this time things were a bit... different. With his mind set, Romeo was looking for encouragement, alas he couldn't quite predict Kadir's stance on him running for Alpha. Not only could it be dangerous, but time consuming as well. Still, he didn't want to waste that opportunity and hide from what could been. Knowing what he could achieve and change, which also included Kadir and vampires in general, Romeo was willing to go all the way. Stepping into Kadir's new lab, the Lycan had his hands balled into fists, for no particular reason but to relax, release some steam.
And yet, upon seeing him, Romeo relaxed drastically. Kadir made him feel more at ease, more in control of who he could be, wanted to be. Ever since the war things had felt so out of control, but Kadir guided him into the right direction, always. "All this way? Fuck yeah, I did. Took some time to get to ya, so, here I am, finally," he stretched his arms out to further announce his arrival. With a grin, the Lycan approached the Leech. He began to chuckle slightly at Kadir's attempts to check if everything was wrong, if he'd forgotten something. He wore the watch... Romeo's heart skipped a noticeable beat. "What shots are you referring to?" he raised one brow, "isn't that something I usually do?" he got close, dangerously close, but averted his gaze as quickly as he'd looked at the Leech, "Sorry, I'm--" he struggled to find the right words, at first, before eventually pushing his doubts aside, now fully aligned with his desires, "Speaking of Lupercal. I'll run for Alpha. For a better future, for me, for us, too. If I'm Alpha I'll make sure to give volatiles and leeches alike more possibilities, I'll strengthen the bond between species, so that we can protect each other after the war. Hell, we need all hands on deck after that fucking war." He let his large hand rest against Kadir's cheek, "You showed me it's important to follow my dreams, so, that's exactly what I'll do. With you by my side."
It was Romeo's arrogance that delivered them to this fate; silver piercing flesh, the lingering, final screams of his parents and watching as an incapacitated Romeo was being hauled off along with them. It'd been better to believe Romeo was dead, it seemed an obvious conclusion, for the Malice had looked and there'd been no trace of his brother until now. Carmine had trailed up Italy, far from their home in Sicily where a Verga would no longer be welcome to the flock; black sheep who had carved their fate as beasts who needed to be expunged rather than allies with teeth. Vampires and lycans were fated to never get along, and so with their blood upon his hands, Carmine fled, too. He'd never thought he'd see his brothers face again, aged by stress and time, alive and kicking instead of rotted in a body bag.
"I'm known to be underestimated," there was this small smile, it broke through the layers of muck and ire, all the corroded grief that had twisted into pure wrath. The Malice held onto his adolescent grief, clung to it as though there was any possibility that Romeo could have moved mountains to find him. It was clear, however, that if the Malice had turned over every stone and razed each city, that Romeo would not have been any luckier. "Whoever hurt you back then; they're dead," Carmine had made sure of it, but they mere merely a lackey within a violent hierarchy of vampires.
Escaping his fate like he did was more based on luck than talent. Having escaped the flood and settling in Rome, practically adopted into his pack, Romeo got lucky, seriously lucky. He'd cared for his brother, more than anything else, even power, and now things had spiraled out of control. The Lycan wondered if their relationship could ever be repaired. "So you took it upon yourself to take revenge?" Romeo had been the one to avoid Sicily ever since, unable to see if their parents had been buried or not, if his brother had been with their parents all along or not. Turned out he wasn't. He still remembered the young boy, the boy who he remembered rather than the man he saw in front of him. A big brother complex, he still wanted to protect Carmine from the cruelties of this world. He hadn't, couldn't.
"You've changed, you're not the boy I remember you to be, so yes, even I underestimated you." He'd never do so again, "I'm sorry about what happened, I should've killed him when I had the chance, strike first instead of them." Should've, could've, he hadn't. "Rome's my home now, we can work together, brother," he was trying to reach out to the man, find a common goal before things would spiral out of control, "it should be yours as well."

He was being a little selfish, if he was being honest to himself. Vampires rarely cared for the time and dates in general, or at least that's what he'd found out over the years. Being immortal certainly had its perks and one didn't have to care about the date or even what year it is. Buying Kadir a watch resembled the stark reminder that Romeo wasn't, in fact, immortal. Not yet, anyway. Time would tell if he'd try and become volatile. Something he'd have to plan out beforehand, something he'd have to be sure of, especially now given there wasn't an Alpha to look up to. Doing so could easily end with him becoming stronger, therefore more important, or backfire entirely. He suspected the latter.
"There's no need for a gift on your part. I just like to treat you every now and then, to see you smile. 'Guess you just have to get used to it," the Lycan grinned. The Lycan inhaled sharply, his muscles tensing at his touch. Arousal washed through his body like electricity. Hiding his arousal wasn't an option, especially considering he was far beyond that point of hiding anything, with his large bulge clearly visible. "You know I can't say no to that. That slick, cold tongue of yours is exquisite," he let his thumb brush over Kadir's tongue, pressing downward ever so slightly so he could see deeper inside where he'd bury himself in soon, "One for the road?" removing his thumb, Romeo pressed his lips against Kadir's, his tongue now gently massaging the other while pulling him closer.

A life left behind, a life torn away from them; Carmine could understand if he was a person that retained a more rational and sensible outlook upon life but the Malice had favored chaos instead. The chaotic churn of his life that led way to mindless debauchery diluted the ire of what was; a baneful creature that was the effect of something violent and unfair. Carmine had to run, a sibling who sat in the shadows as Romeo grew more tenacious and destructive in his own connections; such things that would be the Verga lineage's downfall. Such caustic reminders came bubbling forth now, anger swelling in his throat as he swallowed back knives and vitriol. He'd lingered as best he could, waiting for the day his brother, the Rancor, the Beast, would come back and salvage a clueless teenager from the remnants of a life once cherished. Violence had taken away his family and so violence Carmine became.
"Kill or be killed," stated plainly despite the disparaging wrath that was wedged behind each syllable, "I looked for you." Often, until wrath led to disappointment, and disappointment bred derision at his ridiculous hope that his brother had survived. How the Malice now ate his own words, again, but that only proved to incense him further; Romeo was alive and Carmine had been left to pick up the pieces of their tarnished existence.
A shock sat deep within his bones, lingered for far longer than he wanted it to. His little brother, in the flesh, alive and kicking. He'd believed the other to have perished with their parents while Romeo had been the one to be the sole, unlucky survivor. It came to no surprise that he was immediately reminded of his own failures, how he'd been the one to attract the interest of the Don and make him see that he wasn't human, that none of them were. Whatever fate awaited them ended in pure tragedy. It was nothing he could've prevented, with vampires whispering lies and, sadly, truths, into the ear of the human, only alerting him of their existence. The damage was done and Romeo struggled to fully understand.
Eyebrows furrowed together, the Lycan kept his distance for now, still in shock while his body tried to catch up. His little brother, now all grown up and certainly powerful, he didn't know what motivated him nowadays. Certainly a similar poison than what had gotten Romeo into this mess. Kill or be killed. He seemed to be right about that. "Don't you think I would've done the same if I knew you were alive? I thought they'd killed you, too." He growled, "You're my younger brother, I would've done everything to make sure you're safe," he would've done so today, but back then? His own lack of care and recklessness had ended up getting them both almost killed.

who? @romeoverga where? hakan's party, on one of the castle balconies notes: some catch up between apocalypse survivors <3
"Is it too loud for you too?" She asks as she keeps her gaze fixed on the darkness, trying to count the stars above in hopes of keeping the growing headache at bay. Civilization is still too much at long doses, after years of death and despair, and her senses are far too used to that silence and emptiness to manage through the sounds and the smell for to long without breaking a glass or seventeen. "Or is it the smell?" She wonders before sighing. "Or is that just me."
"'Just not interested in their fake happiness and grandeur. That's what the Romans used to do to uphold morale among their broken community." He shook his head. A part of this was due to the loud noises, the overwhelming masses of people of all species that either stank or smelled otherworldly in comparison. Luckily he'd been so used to Kadir's smell, that some of the vampires just didn't smell at all anymore. Looking towards the other Lycan, Romeo extended a hand and gently placed it against her shoulder, "never you. All we have is each other at times, don't ya think?" He at least believed so. Apart from Kadir, his brother who'd long believed to be dead, and the pack, no other really cared for his struggle. Yet. The senate would be made to listen. "You think this will continue like this for a few years? Getting drunk, partying, just ignore everything that has happened? For some it'll be a lifetime of struggles."

Hands. What to do with his hands. Kadir never really knew, but he was pretty sure that he was figuring it out. As long as you found something you liked and squeezed, that seemed to work out just fine. Romeo's arms, his back, his neck, his chest, his thighs, his ass - there wasn't really anything about the lycan that Kadir didn't want to touch once he'd been stimulated. Too soon though they were back in the car as the vampire climbed into the passenger seat, smiling as he saw the gift that was neatly wrapped and waiting for him.
"This is-?" Kadir was bad with time, bad with anything that wasn't something he could devote the breadth of his significant mind towards. But the watch was very thoughtful and the date wasn't lost on him, Kadir felt himself blush. They could say this was when they'd made things official between them, though the date nestled within the Midsommar function was one that Kadir wouldn't ever forget. "this is very sweet." Kadir put the watch on immediately, the soundless dial turned mechanically and seamlessly, a product of its exquisite engineering. "Another thing I'm bad at... Gifts, but at least this one comes with a date, that should help me remember." Oh right, Christmas was coming up, what was he meant to get Romeo - that's what people did usually, right. Kadir leaned in towards the other, his hand rested on the other's thigh before it slid to rest on the lycan's arousal between his thighs. "I hope you'll tell me if there's anything I can give you."
He was being a little selfish, if he was being honest to himself. Vampires rarely cared for the time and dates in general, or at least that's what he'd found out over the years. The Lupo Pack
For centuries, tension between the lycans and the senate of Rome mounted until eventually the Tiber and the Arno defected entirely, consolidating under one, renamed pack: The Lupo.
Only momentarily confused, Kadir was starting to learn how to interpret Romeo's behaviours. He managed to meet the lycan's eyes as he pulled him in for a kiss, he understood the weight behind it, the passion, and what that meant. Kadir was pulled in because he let himself be pulled in, because he wanted to be, and because in his heart of hearts he cared so deeply for Romeo that it didn't matter to him what everyone else was gawking at. Public perception and the idea that vampires shouldn't be with lycans had never been Kadir's concern: he was a leech, the lowest of the low by his kind's standing, and even that didn't irk him. The things that mattered to him now was longevity, his work, and finding ways to help people like Romeo. If other interests came up along the way, who could blame the mad scientist?
To their credit they made it as far as the car, outside it anyways before the anticipation that buzzed under Kadir's skin was all but too much to handle. His hands on Romeo's chest, the leech found himself pushing the other up against the door of the Italian car. Lips connected once again, while Kadir thought about sex very little, when it did cross his mind and he understood that it was a mutual desire then it was hard for him to shake. He'd spent so many years hunched over a microscope, perceiving himself as unlikable and certainly undesirable that anyone could look at him like something to be lusted after felt impossible. At least that was until he'd met Romeo.
He appreciated Kadir even more for not questioning his actions. Some might've gotten confused at his sudden violence, though he didn't mean no real harm, or at least he thought so. All he wanted was to protect what they are, to avenge the awkwardness of being watched all this time. They didn't look too extraordinary. Sure, they didn't quite meet the criteria of suits and ties, but Romeo couldn't give a fuck about their expensive tastes and Rolexes. He'd been around such idiots all his life, always valuing material gains over humanity. He let out a loud sigh once they managed to get to the car. Surprised Romeo let himself get pushed against the door of his car. Kadir was strong and quick if only he wanted to, he definitely didn't lack any of that. Huffing in excitement, Romeo placed his hand on Kadir's neck and pulled him closer into the kiss, tongue sliding fast and passionately past his lips.
He could feel himself getting aroused once again, but he'd have to make sure not to just fuck him right here, in front of everybody. They didn't deserve the show. "Did I excite you?" he eventually asked with a wide grin once they separated. Opening the door for the Leech, his eyes immediately wandered towards the small box on Kadir's seat. Ironic. Wasn't he the one who'd just condemned those who were after material gains? "A little something," he pressed himself against Kadir's back, his lips dancing along Kadir's ear. That little something was nothing more than an Italian watch for him to not forget the time anytime soon -- with a small, engraved date of their first knotting.

who?: @romeoverga where?: outside the waffle house
❂🐦❂
"I think I'll have to stop by more often. I've forgotten how thrilling bloodsport could be," Octavian says absentmindedly, watching the Waffle House brawl with the bulk of his attention. He didn't want to be too much of a familiar face around Lupercal, but fights between lycans were an attraction he couldn't turn his eye from. He had his own reasons for scoping out their brutality, though he knew true societal observations came best from locals. "Is there something special about the Waffle House that makes your packmates throw chairs, or is that just a consequence of too many lycans under one roof? I think every time I've walked past this restaurant I've witnessed at least one punch thrown."
The Lycan only huffed in amusement. There weren't many like Octavian, someone who seemed to revel in the brute display of power or simply couldn't resist the temptation of watching Lycans really get into it. "You should. I've always.. thought of brawls as bonding. You keep the pack in shape while also determining a pecking order. Loosely." He always considered the winner, the last one standing, to be Lycan of the month, sarcastically. "Why? I've only ever heard about druids as being rather... tame and studious. Is that it? Intrigue?" He huffed at his own words, "you can join us if you dare. We don't bite. Not all the time, at least."
From the time that they'd met Romeo had been a pillar of strength, and fortitude. To look at him now Kadir could see the lines of division where his poor wolf had been so obviously broken. Fifteen years was a long time to suffer, a long time to be trapped outside of your own skin, a long time to spend as a feral beast. It had to be impossible to just go back and rewind the clock, Kadir couldn't quite understand what it was that Romeo had been through, but he was going to try for Romeo's sake.
"You saved me, you did everything you could to protect me. I haven't forgotten that, I'll never forgot that." Which was why whatever came their way, Kadir was prepared to weather it however he could, as best as he could. Navigating relationships, feelings, and the complexities of human interaction were where Kadir was absolutely weakest. He never knew what to say, what to do, where to look, or where to put his hands... But if he could do anything for Romeo, he would. He always would. "I want to help you," Kadir offered, "if I can, if you'll let me."
"I tried," he gingerly corrected. Despite the usual way he behaved, boasting and pride being on an all time high, Romeo didn't feel like he had to be all that in front of Kadir. At least not now, at least not while they enjoyed dinner before the party. A date, the Lycan tried to be at his best behavior for his leech. "You're already helping," he gently placed his thumb and pointed around his chin to lift it up ever so slightly. Followed with a grin, the Lycan pulled him in with a kiss, certainly too passionate for others around them, but Romeo didn't care if he made anyone uncomfortable with that. If he actually had his way, he'd have bent Kadir over their food, over their table, his head pressed against the cold steel while he claiimed what he'd always wanted to be his. He shakily breathed into the kiss to regain some form of control and not get hard right now. "Come on, we can just let loose tonight." However he didn't know how open they could be with their love given the still strange relationship between vampires and lycans.
Getting up, he gestured towards his car, "no way I'm walking, come on." It felt like he'd been running all his life, so he much more preferred to keep things simple and enjoyable. "Besides, I've got something to show you. Inside." He placed a few Euros on the table, leaving a rather generous tip before getting up and slightly shoving another guest that had judged them earlier, just enough so that it might be interpreted as an accident.
