I agree with this. I’ve always hated that these two are framed as competitors over who Lestat loved more. And I do agree that there are some people who think Lestat couldn’t have loved Nicki, or that somehow acknowledging that love diminishes what he felt for Louis. People are capable of loving more than one person and there are so many different types of love.

However, I also think it’s fair to say the same applies to those who imply the only reason Lestat is with Louis is because he couldn’t be with Nicki. I’ve also seen a lot of “Nicki is Lestat’s true love” or Louis is Nicki's replacement discourse lately, which I think is just as regressive.

I appreciate how you don't try to frame them as competition when you discuss them or imply that one is better than the other.

I've honestly never seen them as competition or even as standins for each other. They are quite different and Lestat loved them both, that's fine!

No screeners for the final episode has been released yet and the likely wont be for another 2 or 3 weeks so I can't answer.

That’s beautifully said. Feels like a lot of people think in order to love Louis it must be that Nicki meant nothing to Lestat, which is such an immature view on how love works, especially incorrect in regards to what love means for Lestat. This is not the vampire diaries, ship wars are pointless, to misunderstand Lestat’s love for Nicki I think means misunderstanding a huge part of Lestat, and consequently loustat too.

There's nothing insensitive about episode 6. It was the episode that put a lot things in perspective for me and I'll never forget the moment my friend clocked onto what was happening - even before I did!

I was reeling from the episode and not even from the end of it, there's a long 6 ish minute scene that takes hold of you, shows you everything ugly about the characters and it doesn't let go, it pours salt and fire into the wound and I really felt the pain, betrayal and the truth of it all. Before that, there's the scene where my show only friend had clocked on. It's before anyone admits anything, its just a conversation that's trying to get understanding.

Now, for the discourse. This is a book thing. People are not going to like it but I did. It is very very very very true to the book but it goes against a lot of peoples fanons and opinions and makes no room for anyone to think its not true. It is. It's one of the best scenes of the entire show and across all seasons.
