Though this week has been rather busy for Elijah - between rehearsals, public and media appearances, and negotiations for an upcoming deal that promises to send the world buzzing with his name - he has a rare day where the schedule holds nothing but the promise of much needed rest and relaxation. And he quite intends to spend it catching up on lost hours of sleep.
Meredith, who has been blinking sleepily at him for days while trying to fight the same battle he always does in trying to keep up with Elijah's entirely erratic and often manic sleeping patterns, has already succumbed and is dozing lightly on the couch when Elijah's phone rings.
Though he has a vast array of cellphones - practically his own private media army - this particular one has always been, perhaps, the most private. It's the line he uses for friends and family (which happen to be one in the same), though the number flashing upon the screen is not familiar to him.
He frowns, finger hovering over the button to end the call, but in a fit of what he considers to be sleep-deprived judgement, he his accept instead.
"Petunia! Darling dearest honey bear chocolate mousse! How nice to hear your beautiful, melodious tones again. Oh, my dear, you absolutely give Beyoncé a run for her money!" And he should know, he'd met her. Personally. On multiple occasions. He considered reminding her of that, but (perhaps blessedly for Petunia's sake) did not. "I've missed you so terribly. I think my heart grows weaker with each passing second apart from my most darling, fantastic little sister."
A pause, a muffled conversation away from the receiver, and Elijah adds, "Ah yes! Meredith says hi as well. And to call more often!!! Oh, maybe that was me. But I am quite sure he backs me up on this."
Naturally, though, that begged an important question. A thoughtful beat and Elijah was back for more, chattering away at the same mile a minute speed, "Why are you calling me from such a strange number? I almost didn't pick up, you know! Who knows who could be calling me - reporters, fans, all that. But, naturally, I have a sixth sense when it comes to you. Don't I, darling? Anyway! Did you get a new phone? Is that why you haven't responded to my calls or texts. You haven't been snapchatting with me at all, Petunia, and I can't bear not to see your beautiful face!!!" His wounded tone was entirely put upon, heavily so, but there was an undercurrent of genuine concern.
