(Apologies if this ends up submitted twice, tumblr was being a brat)
Every single person who regularly pays for shit with credit and/or debit cards will have their card be declined at some point in their lives. It can happen for any reason, not just an outstanding balance or insufficient funds. Could be a glitch with our system, a mistake on the part of the bank, anything. I was on vacation once and my card got declined because “someone” was trying to use my card at a restaurant in Detroit, AFTER I HAD TOLD THE BANK “I WILL BE IN DETROIT ON THESE DATES AND WILL BE USING MY CARD.” But banks can be stupid. Technology can also be stupid. Sometimes a card will decline on the first try and work on the second try. (Trying more than twice though is the definition of insanity, just saying.)
My point? There is no need to get embarrassed and defensive and start yelling about how much money is in your account or how high your credit limit is when your card is declined. I promise you that no one is making any assumptions about your financial situation or judging you. Until you start screaming about how the cashier must be incompetent and worthless because you have sooooo much money in that account, anyway. At that point we’re gonna start to wonder. Just calm down, try one more time, or try a different form of payment if you have one, or step outside and call customer service. It happens, it’s not something to make a scene over and the only person embarrassing you is you.
P.S: there is no “decline card” button on our register, I assure you. And yet there are customers who will INSIST that there is and that I pressed it on purpose. To what end? Who the fuck knows? Paranoia isn’t a good color on anyone, people.
What makes customers think it is okay to try to talk to me or interrupt while I am on the phone regardless if I using a work phone or my own personal phone? Like I am using the freaking phone! I clearly can't help you right now! I literally have a customer slapped my receipt printer hard in attempt to get my attention while I was calling the store phone and another who refused to leave me alone even when I am clearly off the clock and on my phone! Like if someone is using a phone, just be quiet or leave them alone! Its rude to interrupt a phone conversation and invading their privacy! Unless it's a extreme emergency learn some freaking manners!
sometimes when we have a line and my coworker is busy doing other duties ill be the only cashier for a bit and a random customer will always,,stand,, at a register with no one at it? when i say someones not at that register theyll be like "wELL THERES NOT A CLOSED SIGN >:(" bitch where do you think my coworker is?? invisible?? no shes busy get tf in line and shut up. people will also do this when i have nO LINE,, literally just walk the extra 5 feet (tho if theyre disabled i will go to them)
I stopped paying any attention to them. If they ask me after standing there ten minutes, I’ll tell them but I am not about to initiate contact just so they can complain.

Reminds me of working rides, if we're down and someone's at the front of the line to talk to people, with a chain across the entrance with a sign that says the attraction is temporarily unavailable (the signs are the exact same throughout the park). Multiple guests will ask, "Are you closed?" Oh, we're open, you just need to know the password to come in...
TW - blood and gore. They really need to fire the high schoolers at my job. They weren’t watching the children in our trampoline area - and a little boy was running (not allowed) and went to jump in our foam pit - his leg got stuck between the mat and the trampoline so he flung forward and his leg broke, with bone sticking out. There was blood all over he trampoline, and in the foam pit. We had to close the foam pit down to clean it. the boy was only 3! If he hadn’t been running when he got caught and fell, he wouldn’t have had more than a sprained ankle. I’ve had the same accidents on my watch with kids just slipping and falling.
But they fire the adults when a customer purposely crashed a go cart into the wall. It’s a double standard and those kids should’ve been fired in the spot. Because they were huddled in a corner talking instead of paying attention to their job.

It really is sometimes
So, Bougah Kong employee here. This guy came through our drive thru, and made his order. When he was asked for the drink, the guy blurts out “I want a large COCK.” It was obvious he made a slip of the tongue, but it was hilarious nonetheless, and everyone in the back started laughing, as did the customer.
I work night audit at a hotel, and we’re supposed to ask for ID if someone asks for an extra key for their room. It’s in the handbook and everything; I’ve found it. However, I’m the only one who actually does it. I’m not just going to stop doing it, because I don’t want to be responsible for someone getting robbed or worse because I gave someone access to a room they had no business being in. Well, people get pissed off at me when I do. “No one else has asked me for ID!” I’m not my coworkers’ keeper. “I’ve been staying here for two weeks! I’m on surveillance!” Congratulations. This is the first time I personally have seen you. I don’t know you from a hole in the ground. It’s for your safety and everyone else’s. I had a half-hour meltdown last night because I’m so sick of looking like an asshole because I’m the only person in the damn place who does their job right. I have too much other stuff going on in my life. I do not need this shit.
kid: *accidentally spills water* kid: *starts cleaning it up* parent: "no stop don't do that :) :) :) theres people who work here and thats their job :) :) :) You shouldn't have to clean up after yourself :) :) :) :)" well actually your kid has something called human decency so...

cross stitch is just pixel art on fabric, reblog if you’re not a coward
Ok so fuck coworkers! I had a coworker make a sexual comment towards me and reported it to management 3weeks agonand still nothing’s happened!!! I have to work with this ass hat and he’s making my work life hard as shit! The worst part is that sense I’m a girl some people are trying to say I’m blowing it out of proportion. Like, fuck you!!! Ugh
I had a college aged girl ask me to remove something from her order at self checkout (which is no biggie, maybe it was more expensive than she realized, it's w/e) but as I was taking it off she fished it out of the bag, turned around, and tried to shove it in a candy display. She just. Brazenly did this right in front of me, with confidence, like she thought this is what one is SUPPOSED to do with something they changed their mind on. I asked her to hand it to me and she seemed confused.
What? Just...what?
Closing Shifts & Lazy Coworkers
Yes, in a lot of ways closing shifts are more work. You don’t just stand at a register scanning groceries the entire time. We have to do store walks to collect all the misplaced items, we have to do returns and put back all the misplaced items and the stuff customers decided they didn’t want at the registers. We have to face shelves, clean, occasionally pack out candy into the displays at the registers, etc. If you can’t handle that, you either need to change your availability so you’re not closing or find another job.
I’m so sick of getting stuck closing with slow, lazy, inefficient dickheads. If you’re facing shelves, which requires collecting up any empty cardboard display boxes you come across, you can’t do shit like walk up to the front end every fucking time you find a box. What the actual fuck is wrong with you. Take a hand basket or cart with you to collect them up in. Why do I have to tell someone in their mid twenties this?
I don’t know what’s so hard to grasp about the concept that we have a list of duties that we need to complete. Stop lollygagging and do your goddamn job. It fucking sucks to open in the morning to a disorganized trash heap of a store because the closing crew the night before were dicking around.
It’s not even that hard. When I miraculously get scheduled with decent workers we usually get everything done with an hour or two to spare, then we can chill the rest of the night. If you want to stand around talking literally all you need to do is work efficiently and get your shit done asap. Stop making the supervisor and closing manager have to hound you all night to get anything done, ffs.
This is related to the haunted house post. I worked on the hay ride attraction and it failed to amaze me that parents would bring their toddlers on an attraction that had strobe lights, fog machines, and a fuck ton of loud noises ( we had machines that made loud ass bangs that would make your ears and fucking fog horns) Actors had to back off if they saw a young kid cuz nobody wants a crying child to deal with (let alone a traumatized one) Please don't bring your children on these attractions.
Omfg. So many parents will be bringing their kids to our Halloween nights, then get upset that the characters scare the kids. (They're not required to show mercy.) Like, I have no sympathy for you. One, you as the adult should know what's in store. Two, it's advertised that the night time activities aren't recommended for those under 12/13.

One time I didn't have a bagger, so I had to scan and bag at the same time, and when I finished bagging one man's groceries (literally only like 5 bags, I set them on the counter right in front of him and moved on to the next customer. But then he said to me, "put them in my cart, I don't work here." I thought he was joking at first so I smiled, but then he said, "I'm serious, I don't work here." So I had to stop what I was doing, make my growing line in my lane wait, squeeze out of my tiny area, put the 5 bags in his cart FOR him AND his wife, and then finally help the next customer. All because he refused to show simple human decency because he didn't work there.
I had a lady call me a piss pot because i refused to do a return without her actually having the item with her
Why does this seem to happen a lot? Do people really not understand the concept of a return? Or do they think the workers/companies are stupid enough to essentially give them free money?
