In adulthood, AJ is an event planner. She specializes in weddings, but enjoys planning banquets and family reunions too. She mellowed out a lot as she got older but can still be considered “bossy” and somewhat overbearing. Other planners and staff don’t like to work with her because she doesn’t compromise well and wants everyone to follow her exact orders and her exact plans. She has an extremely good reputation, though, because she’s good at her job and she knows what she’s doing. She has raving reviews about her planning skills and those who are fine with executing her will agree that she’s one of the best in the business.

She actually misses Cater a lot when he moves away to go to NRC and hates that he doesn’t talk to her and that he spends most of his time out of the house when he comes home for the holidays. She recognizes after he leaves home that she was really harsh and pushy on him when they were kids and she regrets it. She is constantly trying to find ways to make amends with Cater and be a better sister for him and really puts in effort to see him for who he is and understand him as a person now that he’s older.

AJ was the most supportive person in their family besides their dad when it came to Cater being trans. She immediately accepted him when he came out although he was really scared to come out to both of his sisters because they had spent so long pushing femininity on him when he was a kid. It was the first olive branch towards fixing their relationship before Cater left for school although her being supportive didn’t really immediately mend any of the damage that had already been caused.

She and Cater have a lot of really long conversations around the time of Cater’s graduation because Cater did not originally invite any of his family to his graduation and AJ was scared that Cater was just going to move away without coming back home and without telling anyone where he was going. She reached out to him and said she wanted to have a conversation with him. Cater lays it out how he still has trauma from how AJ and Didi treated him when they were kids, how that plus the constant moving really fucked with his perception of himself, his identity, and his ability to form and maintain relationships, and also how the weird obsession with making Cater eat sweets when he was a kid gave him an eating disorder.

AJ cries really hard during the conversation but she apologizes profusely and takes responsibility for everything that Cater called her out on, which is really surprising to Cater. Their relationship is still strained for a little while but it eventually gets much much better and they start talking a lot more

Cater asks AJ to plan his wedding for him and in my idikei AUs, cater and Idia name their son Atlas Jude and call him “AJ” for short as a nod to Cater’s sister

Delilah Rose Diamond (Didi)

Didi is the middle child. Felt she needed to act out for attention especially after Cater was born. Always felt jealous of Cater in some way shape or form. Neither Didi nor AJ can use magic but Didi took it especially hard when Cater realized he was a mage. Also felt like Cater acting “tomboyish” when they were kids was him trying to get more attention by separating himself from his sisters. Didi clung to AJ and followed her orders to try and pit AJ and Cater against each other. Had some internalized biases against Cater when he came out that she needed to sort through but eventually ended up being understanding especially because AJ was so accepting.

Didi still feels like she is inadequate compared to both of her siblings. AJ has a successful business as an event planner, Cater is an accomplished mage going to a world-class mage school and Didi… works the counter at a makeup store. Her parents have offered to pay her tuition to go to school and find a career but she keeps being wishy-washy on what she wants to do. Constantly trying to compliment-fish and pity-farm from AJ and the rest of their family. AJ and her were really close when they were kids, but especially in trying to rebuild her relationship with Cater, AJ starts pulling away from Didi when they’re in early adulthood.

Didi eventually realizes the way she has been living is miserable and is insanely jealous of the relationship that AJ and Cater now have, and surprisingly, instead of throwing herself a pity party she tries to reach out to AJ to ask for advice on reconnecting with Cater. The problem is that Didi is way less prepared to accept her fault in their distance than AJ was so it takes a lot longer for her and Cater to rebuild their relationship. It does eventually get to a place where they are closer again but they never develop the relationship that Cater has with AJ

They do bond over how neither of them exactly knows what to do with their lives. Didi has this insecurity around Cater because she thinks that Cater being a mage and going to an accomplished mage school must make him very prepared for the rest of his life and give him a solid foundation to build from, she feels like she is going to be the only one out of the three siblings who doesn’t make something of herself. So when Cater tells her he actually has no idea what he wants to do with his life and he has a lot of ideas but is having trouble figuring out what he wants to pursue, this is a bridge between the two of them as they bond over that feeling of uncertainty and realize they have more in common with each other than they thought.
