Theda Bara in a publicity photo for Cleopatra (J. Gordon Edwards, 1917), a silent film that survives only in brief fragments. The alst two known copies were destroyed in fires at Fox Studios in 1937.
Gloria Swanson in Sadie Thompson (1928) Dir. Raoul Walsh
I was challenged by @ralphsmotorbike to list 6 films I can watch anytime. Ralph’s is a damn fine blog and I’m happy to oblige:
The Third Man (Carol Reed, 1949) because it’s brilliant
The Maltese Falcon (John Huston, 1941) because it’s brilliant and fun
Funny Face (Stanley Donen, 1957) because of Audrey Hepburn’s smile
Vertigo (Alfred Hitchcock, 1958) because it’s bottomless, a deep deep well
The Night of the Hunter (Charles Laughton, 1955) because of my childhood
Chinatown (Roman Polanski, 1974) because it’s a masterpiece
So there it is. On another day you’d get a different list. With maybe Picnic or A Star is Born (Judy Garland) or Marie Antoinette (Norma Shearer suffers so beautifully) or even Auntie Mame on it.
And I challenge @sniccolo, @mildredsfierce, @ruihenriquesesteves, @kvetchlandia, and @mothgirlwings to name 6 movies you can watch anytime.
So excellent. Yes. And all so beautiful.
Hope you are ok.
Hi,
I hadn't seen any recent postings and was hoping that everything is alright. Your postings are something I look forward to everyday. Many thanks.
Thinking of you,
Rodney

I love that she smokes with a very flammable veil over her head.
Jean Harlow in a publicity photo for Dinner at Eight (George Cukor, 1933)
So absolutely glamorous.
Swing Time (1936)
The “Never Gonna Dance” number - Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers turn walking into dancing

She's a star. Look at that profile.
#ExMachina The best film this year thus far. Only four actors. Amazing writing. (at Harkins Cine Capri)
