One year ago, I finished my Scaredy Cat story! It got a daily deviation on Deviantart, which completely made my day. I was so happy. It also got several notes when I posted it on Tumblr. Then this person posts the entire thing last spring and as of today it has 304,000 notes. Seriously?? I cannot even comprehend that large of a number. I have never had 300,000 of anything before! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! It makes me happy knowing that so many people enjoy my story :)
Keep going, Phillip. You're about to realize something fundamental about witches and your conceptions that they're all evil. Stop projecting so hard tho, you're scaring everyone.

Hey, Phillip, man, are you doing okay? Yeah, no, it's just that the framing makes it look like you're the one who's behind bars. Yeah, I'm sure it's nothing.

Teenage boy genuinely apologizes to his older brother's girlfriend.
Meanwhile, said girlfriend very visibly restrains herself from attacking him, lol.

Freedom is a state of mind...
Do you think things might have gone differently for Hunter if Belos hadn't tried to kill him at the end of Hollow Mind?
I've been thinking about this because the other day I saw this sad fanart on here about an alternative take on this scene where Belos doesn't jump to trying to kill Hunter straight away
And instead Hunter desperately tries to get Belos to take him back by promising to stay loyal to him unlike the other Guards.
So it made me wonder since in the actual episode Hunter isn't really given much time to think since Belos jumps to trying to kill him when literally all he said was "" what? ""
do you think anything would have happened differently if Belos hadn't tried to kill him? like what if Belos instead tried to manipulate Hunter back to him?
since in the show it very much seems like Hunter panics and runs from the Owl House mainly due to knowing Belos wants to kill him and he can't go back
But if that wasn't the case do you think things might have happened differently?
and maybe either Hunter would have gone back to him desperate for things to go back to how they were or maybe Belos would have manipulated him into coming back to him?
Or do you think even without the murder attempt Hunter still would have escaped with Luz and not gone back to the castle?
what do you think?

Philip and Kikimora decide to spring Evelyn from prison.
writing request: ... this might be an odd one, but hunter getting turned into some sort of nonhuman creature? maybe he bonds with eberwolf and viney about it?
“Why are we out here again?”
Hunter ducked under a tree branch. This convenient leafy tunnel was suspiciously getting smaller and smaller. Almost like the forest was trying to squash he and Gus. “Rare seeds. They grow even rarer potion ingredients. Willow thinks that if we get her some, she can cultivate them in her greenhouse.”
“Right, right.” Gus pushed another branch out of the way. “And that is going to…?”
“Give me an A+ in my potion-making class? I might even discover something completely new.”
“We’re traipsing through the woods for homework?”
Hunter runs afoul of some wild magic, but it turns out alright in the end.
I am glad we all accept Hunter has killed or caused serious violence to others as the golden guard because it's important for his development but. Storywise. I think it's clear they didn't actually want to imply that. He didn't want to actually kill the selkidomus himself. His threat to blow Luz up was obviously a dramatic petty bluff. He's not allowed of the castle except on weekends. And we all talk about the petrifications in the boiling Isles whether hunter or Belos did it but. They establish in season 1 that this is the first petrification in decades. Longer than hunter has even been alive. It really doesn't seem like in the actual released show hunter knew anything about basilisks. We never meet anyone who has any personal beef with him. Belos clearly has kept him extremely sheltered intentionally to keep him isolated from other scouts. I think textually its really supposed to imply he HASN'T actually done anything that justifies his reputation.
Anyway he's definitely killed people though
I generally go off of the show with regards to this.
IE: No, Hunter wasn't running around killing people as the Golden Guard. That's just... too dark for my personal tastes. I can accept that he indirectly got people killed via arresting them and then Belos having them quietly petrified, though!
Plus, you know, the implied hundreds of palismen (Which are canonically cute animals!) that he willingly handed over to Belos to consume. That's plenty angsty for my tastes, lol.
I will say he brought out an entire airship to steal like seven palismen and that was apparently a huge deal, so I kind of think maybe he didn't actually personally steal that many of those either lmao
Then he immediately sabatoged his own mission risking severe punishment because Luz asking him his name...
I reckon that Belos would've "forgiven" him for that transgression had Hunter brought Luz to him...
But, the key point is that Hunter didn't capture Luz despite having at least two good opportunities to do so after he told her his name.
Cuz he's actually a fucking wuss who doesn't like hurting people and was actively looking for excuses not to lol
Soooooo indulge me for a bit, but I know we all LOVE Steve, but never talk about how “rah rah” Belos he was before we saw his face.
He’s a good guy but has he done bad things?!?
In all fairness, I'm not sure that it was ever made clear that Emperor's Coven trainees know what happens to their palismen when they give them up?
I mean, sure, we saw Belos eat a palismen that a Coven Scout brought him in Agony of a Witch. But he did that in front of Hunter, Lilith, and a bunch of other Scouts. IE: Fully-fledged members of his Coven.
No trainees to be seen in that scene. And for the rest of the series, Belos seems to prefer to consume palismen in private, with only Hunter around to witness it.
Ergo, I say that it's reasonable to think that the trainees might genuinely not realize that they condemn their palismen to death by joining the Emperor's Coven. And by the time they find out what Belos does to palismen, it's too late to save theirs.
Think of it more like having to give up a beloved pet because you just got your dream job. Not, uh... your new boss immediately killing your beloved pet in front of you.

Exactly! Lol
That being said, I actually think that Belos would've been a bit miffed had Hunter brought Luz to him.
I mean, sure, he wants to save her soul from the "evil" witches and all... but not right then and there.
She still has to travel back in time to teach him the light glyph and help him find The Collector! And she has to do it with Lilith! Who isn't even a member of his Coven anymore!
Is he going to have to "arrange" for Luz to escape from his castle? How in the name of God is he going to organize that? And in a way that doesn't cost him any of his reputation within his own Coven? Bad enough that the girl made a mockery of Edalyn Clawthorne's petrification ceremony...
Oh, and the best part? Belos can't even let Hunter know that he's kind of pissed at him for capturing Luz. After all, he was only doing what he told him to do. One of the Golden Guard's most esteemed duties is to personally arrest the Emperor's enemies after all. Which, as the apprentice of one of the most notorious Wild Witches in Isles history, Luz counts as.
I'm actually surprised that nobody has evidently written a fic with this premise yet! Because it's really funny to picture Belos having to scramble to ensure that the timeline stays intact, all the while silently cursing Hunter for somehow being so loyal that it's actually inconvenient for him. Lmao

In all fairness, Hunter kind of had a flair for over-the-top dramatics as the Golden Guard.
Given that he apparently thought that the best way to introduce himself to Eda and Luz was to:
Raise out on the Boiling Sea in front of them in a fist made of boiling seawater.
Hold Eda and Luz aloft over the Boiling Sea for several seconds.
And then threaten to drown King when they naturally refused his "deal" of letting them go if they were to slay the Selkidomus for him.
Him taking an entire airship just to seize seven palismen is just more of the same, lmao.
