your phone rang.

6:42 pm, christmas eve, not a good sign.

a little sigh left your body as you swiped the call button over to accept the phone call.

“yeah?” your voice was low, almost asleep, the beeping sounds in the background from the other caller shook you up a bit.

“i need you to cover up a shift, two people just called in sick, we’re understaffed.” you knew exactly who it was, you knew the voice without even knowing the name shown on the screen, maybe you knew the voice too good for your own liking.

a bitter laugh escaped your lips uncontrollably before you excused yourself for the sound that just came out of you.

“you know i can’t do that” it almost felt like you whispered those words and you could’ve sworn you heard your supervisor suck her breath in.

“i worked six night shifts in a row, which first off isn’t even acceptable. i’m not coming” you added in a distinct way that showed her you weren’t going to give in.

“we need you here.” the woman on the other end of your phone blurred out, machines beeping louder than before.

“and you know what i need? sleep, a good rest and my boyfriend over for christmas. and you know what i’m not getting? right all of that.” the tone of your voice changed into something bitter, almost snapping at her as you eyed the decorated tree in the corner of the living room.

you were about to give in, maybe you’d have a few days off after you had the worst week of your year if you would just go and work this one last night shift but your plans changed as you heard your doorbell rang.

“listen, i’m gonna call you back in a second, but don’t expect me to work the shift, try looking for someone else.” you mumbled into the speaker as you stood up and made your way over to your front door, hanging up the call on the way there.

you just opened the door, didn’t even bother to look through the peephole to see who’s outside your door.

“taeyang” you breathed out as you saw your boyfriend standing in your doorway with a small gift bag in his hand and a small smile on his face.

“hello love, you look stressed” he chuckled out before he walked past you to take off his shoes.

“i cleared my schedule for tonight and tomorrow, wanted to spend christmas with you” his voice soft and laced with sweetness as he placed a kiss on the top of your head.

“santa, tell me…. what did i do to deserve this” you smiled softly wrapping your arms around his neck.

your shift? long forgotten, not even dared to call your supervisor back.
