Went live for the first time at the OK Hotel in Seattle, and nobody in that room had any idea they were witnessing the song that was about to detonate rock music. Nevermind wasn't even finished yet! The people who were there and actually remember it, what I wouldn't give.

52 years ago today — April 16, 1974 — Queen walked into a college gymnasium at Regis College in Denver, Colorado and played their very first show on American soil, opening for Mott the Hoople.

Now look, I love Mott the Hoople, 'All the Young Dudes' is a certified stone-cold classic, Ian Hunter is a legend, all of that is true and correct — but just imagine being a Denver college kid that night and watching this band of absolute unknowns take the stage and Freddie Mercury opens his mouth and you're suddenly thinking, wait, what the HELL is this.

'Queen II' was barely three weeks old, America didn't know these guys from Adam, and they were in there doing what Queen does, which is play like the venue is already twice the size it is.

One of the greatest rock bands of all time spent their US debut as the opening act in a gym, and I find that so delicious I can barely stand it.

On this day in 1996, Jerry Garcia's ashes were scattered near the Golden Gate Bridge, eleven days after the first half of him had already been spread over the Ganges River in India. Two ceremonies. Two continents. One guy who somehow made 'Dark Star' feel like both a bluegrass jam and a trip to another dimension. That's the only send-off that could've possibly fit.

54 years ago today: CCR played their first-ever UK show at the Royal Albert Hall and absolutely leveled the place!
