“I never thought I’d be with someone again,” Lotte took a small sip of coffee, “Especially not a god.”

She watched as one of the older witch’s smaller spiders pushed a sugar cube over to her with its head. Lotte thanked the critter and gently pet its round body with her finger tip.

“I know you really don’t care for him, Roki... But MZD has honestly treated me better than anyone else I’ve been with has. I mean, that’s something, right...?”

“What’s cookin’, good lookin’,” MZD plopped himself down on the couch and kicked his shoes off before nuzzling up to Lotte. The witch giggled and put an arm around the god, feeling him wrap his arms around her waist. 

The back of her neck hurt so bad. Lotte laid on her couch, a groan leaving her. She felt so drained, and if she tried to even feel around her neck, the pain would get worse again. Not only that, but she seemed to slip into an even more negative mood by the minute. Like a pool of tar she couldn’t break herself from.

The sounds of an intense guitar riff tore through the air. No doubt a certain demon guitarist was up and raring to go with some instrument practice at this time.

Though, with how focused he was on his playing, it didn’t seem to dawn on him that another musician may have been in the area.

His only indication would’ve been a faint noise and a small bit of motion from his peripheral vision just moments after he finished a small warm-up tune.

There was a lot of new traffic coming to the Pop’n world, lately. Most of the newcomers didn’t play an instrument, nor did they really have anything to do with music. So to hear guitar riffs made Lotte believe it was just her friend D getting ready for another live show. Upon wandering over to the source of it, she didn’t expect to see what looked like a blue-haired demon playing the sick chords.

“Damn,” she mumbled to herself, “That’s pretty good. Who is this guy...?”

“I don’t know. Couldn’t you tell since I ‘look like shit,’“ Lotte shot the rock star a harsh glare. 

“Jesus, settle down,” D gave his own glare back, “I’m only asking.”

Lotte simply looked down and rolled a purple crystal around in her hands. 

“If you’ve got nothing to offer me, other than just making me feel worse, you can leave.”

“Lotte, I came over here because Erika fuckin’ told me you’ve been holed up in your house and won’t answer anything. What the fuck is going on, seriously,”

D clenched a fist as the witch turned away from him. A small shift in part of her hair was all the rock star needed to notice a weird make on the back of Lotte’s neck. 

“Dude, did Lucifer scratch you or something?”

As soon as he touched the mark, it was like a blur as he saw a fist headed for him.

CRACK.

A yell erupted from D as he flew back, hit his leg on a nearby coffee table, and fell to the floor with a loud thud. He clutched his nose as blood trickled down from his palms. The witch’s eyes were wide open as she stared him down. She didn’t speak. She didn’t spit at him, or even move a muscle. D felt a wave of terror punch his gut. Scrambling to get up, he stumbled and rushed out of the living room, throwing the front door open with one hand and taking off down the street. 

I’m going to admit this right now: When it came to Pop’n/Bemani in general, my drive was mostly killed due to feeling like I couldn’t talk to people in the communities. Like, if I wasn’t some super important person everyone already knew, or was in an already established friend group, I was dirt. But I managed to find a few nice folks here and there, and it brought me out of that funk a bit. 

      “ I-I’ll burn your face off! ” Gerhard retorted, glaring at Pyramid with a scowl on his face. If only he could burn someone alive just by looking at them… because he’d totally be doing that right now if he could, even if he didn’t want to risk setting Lotte’s house on fire. He growled at Asia when he started to poke his cheek in a condescending manner, prompting the demon child to viciously bite at him like a piranha. 

      However, the glint of a knife didn’t go unnoticed by Gerhard either, eliciting a fearful reaction from the boy. Even if Core Pride stopped Showa from actually doing anything with the knife, the possibility of what he could’ve done was what really scared Gerhard. As the Remix selves continued to discuss among themselves, debating on what to do with him, Gerhard became increasingly agitated and was about to try and burn through the bandages, until salvation finally arrived in the form of Lotte returning home, at last. 

      “ L-Lotte! LOTTE! H-HELP ME, PLEASE! ” 

      Gerhard shouted with a desperate plea for help, hoping that the humiliation he endured from the Remix selves would paint him in a more sympathetic light, even if he did break into Lotte’s house with the intention of stealing her food to begin with. He knew that he probably wouldn’t be able to make any excuses, but he just wanted this to be over so he could go home already… and then get scolded by Wilhelm for running away again. Great. 

      Best. Birthday. Ever. 

“Gerhard,” Lotte’s voice was clearly laced with confusion. The clicking became louder and the witch flipped on the light to the dining room.

“What is going on here?!”

A frenzy took place as the gremlins scattered in all directions, leaping over chairs, scrambling along the floor, and rushing to any closet space or room they could to slam the door and hide. Pyramid sloppily dropped the demon kid and leapt into the nearby pantry, loudly slamming the door. Not even believing what was going on right now, the frazzled witch rushed over to Gerhard to check on him.

“Gerhard, are you alright?! Why are you in my house...?”

      Gerhard kept screaming as he was suspended upside-down in the air in a humiliating fashion until he was directly confronted by the Remix selves, who finally revealed themselves to the demon child. Seeing all of them in one place made Gerhard’s blood run cold as he stared back at Core Pride and Asian Concerto’s illuminated faces with wide, trembling eyes and mouth agape. It took him a moment to form a coherent response in the midst of his panic, but he managed to spit it out while angrily glaring back at Pyramid with his teeth bared.

      “ …What?! Y-You guys?! H-Hey, let me go! Let me go! I wasn’t gonna do anything, I-I swear! ” He couldn’t come up with a good excuse, but he’d continue to deny any accusation directed at him. At this point, it was the only thing Gerhard could do until Lotte returned. The demon child hoped that he’d be able to buy enough time for Lotte to return and save him, but he knew that she was probably going to harshly scold him too… “ Y-You better not chop off my hands or my feet, o-or else… ”

“Or else what,” Pyramid laughed, “What are you gonna do? You’re in the lion’s den, boy. There’s no escape.”

“Hey, hey, since he’s a little brat, let’s just leave him hanging,” Asia grinned and poked at Gerhard’s cheek to bully him. The other gremlins mumbled amongst themselves, talking about a suitable punishment for an intruder that ruined their nap. 

“I like Pyramid’s idea of cutting something off,” Showa cooly spoke from the crowd. Pride caught the glint of a knife and quickly shot the other Remix a glare.

“Oi, oi, we’re not cutting into anything. Put that away.”

“Awww,” Showa looked disappointed as he slipped the knife back into its cover. There was more chatter between the group before one sound made them freeze up. In the distance, the front door opened and the clicking of heels could be heard on the hardwood floor.

      “ Wh-What are you?! ” Gerhard shouted at them as he held onto the wall for support, expressing his confusion as he realized there were more of them - and they were all watching him. Terrified, the demon child felt like prey cornered by the predator, of which there were several. He would’ve blasted them with a fireball to keep them at bay, but even Gerhard wouldn’t dare do such a thing in Lotte’s house… 

      Not expecting an answer from them, and unnerved by their animalistic growling, Gerhard wouldn’t waste any time trying to confront them and made a break for the entrance to Lotte’s house when one approached him, not taking any chances with whatever it had in store for him. In his attempt to escape, the demon child nearly crashed into the entrance door and threw it open, the light of day welcoming him with the relief of escaping to safety… until he felt bandages wrap tightly around his body, proceeding to forcibly drag him back into the house.  

      “ AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!! N-NO! NO, NO, NO! LET ME GO! LET ME GO!!! NOOOOO!!! SOMEONE, HELP!!! ” The child screamed bloody murder, hoping that he’d be loud enough to catch the attention of anyone in the vicinity who’d happen to hear him. In the meantime, Gerhard put up a fierce resistance against his assailant, struggling with all of his might to escape. He tried to tear at the bandages with his hands, even tried biting them, but they were more durable than he thought. Unfortunately for him, his struggle only made it worse for himself in the end, as he became more entangled in the mess of bandages and he felt himself being dragged further and further away from escape…

As Gerhard was being dragged back into the house, the front door was slammed shut. Soon, the child would find himself upside-down as whoever was controlling the bandages raised them higher. A single light from a flashlight came on and the light was tilted back to reveal Core Pride’s face. The Remix looked up at Gerhard with a blank expression, before slowly tilting his head to the side. 

“What are you doing here, Gerhard,” he asked with a cold, unsettling tone.

“You weren’t trying to steal anything, were you,” Asian Concerto had a serious tone to his voice too.
