"Well, you see, Silver, there is a certain human tradition that takes place during this ti—"
Before he could properly launch into his definition of what Christmas was, N looked up and realized just which of the presents had ended up at Silver’s feet. He began to make a lunge for it, but stopped. It was already in the redhead’s hands. He heaved a sigh.
"It has your name written on it, doesn’t it? I believe you can make your own deduction."
Meanwhile, Minerva had managed to find one of Silver’s legs and lean against it with a happy coo.
He didn't take notice of N's actions, too preoccupied with staring at the present in his hands. He didn't speak for several moments, too confused and trying to organize his thoughts.
"No, I don't mean- it's just..." He was uncharacteristically hesitating in his words but ignored it. "Why would you get me anything? I've never done- I've never gotten anything for you."
He felt the small dragon nudge his foot and looked down. "Uh, hey."
N might have frowned at the needless comment had he not recognized the voice giving it. He looked up, halting his frantic scrambling for the fallen gifts.
"Silver?"
Minerva was also successfully distracted from the presents, automatically perking up and running vaguely in the direction that Silver’s voice seemed to be coming from— because that was Dad’s voice! Dad was here!
But it was that that made N scowl.
"Hmph. Why would you ask if you don’t want to know? It’s none of your concern anyway.”
He wouldn’t bother asking Silver where he had been this time, instead going back to collecting and re-stacking the boxes. One— coincidentally with “Silver” scrawled on its tag— had rolled close to the boy’s feet.
N looked surprised to see him, which was understandable considering how he'd disappeared for so long. But he didn't expect the Deino to run excitedly toward him, or as close as i could manage without sight. He stared at it for a bit before remembering the name Minerva. Something about the Deino gave him pause.
Then N spoke again. Silver scowled and looked away, happening to notice the box nearest him had his name on it. He froze, mouth agape, before finally speaking haltingly.
"Wh-what the fuck is this?"
He was shocked, not angry for once. He bent down without stopping to think, intending to grab the present. He'd forgotten all about Minerva for the moment.
On Christmas Eve, a certain wanderer could be found outside as always— but today he was donning a cheap headband with a pair of plastic Stantler antlers atop it, and meticulously stacking a collection of colorful, nicely-wrapped (certainly not by himself) boxes.
A particularly one seemed to be giving him trouble. He sat crossed-legged before it and was giving it a frustrated glare as if it had said something to insult him. Eventually, he heaved a sigh; the droop of his head came with an unfittingly jolly jingling of the bells on his antlers.
"What have I done? What did I think would come of this…?"
Minerva, all too excited about the colorful assortment and quite fed up with N’s gloomy attitude, made a sudden leap for the tower of boxes, sending it crashing down. N nearly squawked.
"Ah— Minerva, no!"
Silver was wandering around aimlessly on a day he definitely didn't care about, making a point to kick fallen leaves in his path and other stupid things. When he looked up from kicking things he saw someone he unfortunately knew who was wearing reindeer antlers and stacking Christmas presents.
"What the fuck are you- you know what, I don't want to know." He gritted his teeth and tried his hardest to be annoyed, but really it was oddly relieving to see N again. He hadn't seen anyone for a while, after all. He put on a convincing scowl and made his way over to N, then the shiny Deino he hadn't even noticed knocked down all the presents. He stared at it in confusion.

“Why’d he lose? What kind of question is that?”

"Uh, you have told him about type weaknesses, right? It just doesn't make sense to go against something you'd probably lose against. I mean, he's a Deino, he can take it, probably. Just stay away from Ice and Fighting types."

N’s thoughts seemed to be elsewhere; as Silver reached forward and tucked the flower into a spot just behind N’s ear, the man was startled back to attention. He blinked and began to feel around the back of his head, far from the flower, for anything different.
"Oh… What have you done to me?"
There wasn't much reason for it, really. Silver had just seen N standing there and hadn't been noticed yet, so he... for some reason plucked a dandelion and put it in N's hair.
"Nothing! I didn't do anything, it was probably something floating around or something." He suppressed any thought of how dumb he sounded by glaring in another direction. Just being around N made him instantly irritated for some reason.
"Okay. I won’t have to because I didn’t. He chose his own name.”
"He takes after you a little, you know. He likes to battle." And he could get a little too rowdy sometimes.
Silver opened his mouth to protest, but any sound died in his throat.
"Oh."
He tried to recover, scowling unconvincingly. "Well, uh- he better. I mean... geez." Shit, no, he was too distracted.
*gasp* Silver, you're around for once!

"Now, where have you been?”
"… Minerva misses you."

"I've been- it doesn't matter. Who the hell are you..." He paused for a moment before remembering.
