hallo, you filthy animals. do you want to get better at rocket on marvel rivals? you've come to right place to hear me yap about this wonderful creature; just note: I'm a self-taught rocket main so what I say, I've learned from educational livestreams and via coaching! :)
rocket is a 1-star, super-mobile support character, he was part of the original roster when rivals launched and really good for people new to hero shooters or being a fill support (people that play him outside of their main role). His kit consists of: his bombard mode, repair mode, B.R.B (battle rebirth beacon), and his dashes; with his passive being to able to float in the air when pushing (or holding if you have the setting enabled) the spacebar (or A if you're controller; unless you binded it to a different button).

The most common asked question I get when people see my rocket is how to get good aim on him, and I can give some advice on how, you can't! his bullets are really weird and inconsistent so my accuracy on rocket can range from the mid 20s to 30s, even 40. It just depends how close you are on that particular target.
up close = super high accuracy, long range = inconsistent accuracy
but my main advice on improving your aim on rocket is always try and warm up by going into the practice range and practicing leading your shots, try and do strafting since standing still can be unrealistic & make rocket's bullets. however, if you're new I do recommend standing still first to get the feel of the gun, but once you get the feel of it try and strafe to get the feel of the wide bullets rocket has, he's a projectile so it's highly important to predict/lead your shots on where your enemy is going to go.
rocket is a tank buster so go down into the practice range and put out a couple of groots or venoms out on quick speed with random movement, around 10-20 meters, 10 meters seems fair since his falloff is bad.
movement on rocket is the hard part due to his wall-climbing nerf, but can be easily learned if you put the time and dedication to it! - ALWAYS ALWAYS stay near a wall, this helps so we you get dove you can immediately get away without having to waste your dashes going to a wall, do zig-zag type movement to confuse your enemy, example video down below:
this makes your enemy confused and somewhat dizzy trying to see where you're at - it's my main power move and definitely worth learning!
rocket's ult can be used many different ways: defensively, offensively, to push up aggressively to get point, etc! this heavily depends on the situation, but most of the time I use rocket amplifier to combo ultimates, push/maintain point aggressivly, using it to counter ultimates like doctor strange, or mirroring an enemy support ultimate (love headshotting luna out of her ult with amp).
but I do recommend using it for those reasons, here is the ults that he counters with his amplifier:
- groot (depending if he puts a wall or if he has a dmg boost, but it's 50/50)
- spider-man (better have fast reaction time)
- technically any ult that has a stun, starlord is dependent, but I usually die in my ult when he pops it so idk.
placement has to be behind natural cover or corners, where it isn't seen by the enemy but your team having the LOS/dmg boost from it - or high ground if the enemy team isn't running fliers.
ROCKET TECHS, AKA THE MOST FUN THING EVER !!!
- his super dash: climb a wall to any direction (expect backwards) and dash, just be warned: some walls don't allow you to do it so tap the jump button and then dash before climbing the wall (if that even makes sense), this tech is only good with straight walls and not the ones celestial husk has so be careful. - really handy when escaping dive, ultimates, and go to point faster
- shooting his orbs on the ground/ceilings for extra healing, situational but really good when used! I mostly use this tech in a small room or when my tank is taking a lot of dmg so I bounce my heals off the floor or to their feet for that extra healing.
- and a funny tech: spamming the spacebar when you're floating in the air, not game changing but I thought it was funny lol
- he absolutely sucks against jean grey, not only can she counters his ultimate but he can also be headshotted by her easily when he's in the air (any hitscan pretty much, but since jean have explosive damage, she can easily kill him).
- he's kinda ass against people that do high damage like punisher, hela. people like scarlet witch or iron fist can also be a problem for rocket due to them have auto aim, star-lord sometimes but idek, I rarely see people play him enough lmao
- he's really good with a punisher, bucky, or a venom!
any map that has straight walls, arakko being his best map, but sucks on 2 of 3 maps of celestial husk. - this is for his dash tech!
- groot + mk + rocket amplifier
- punisher + rocket amplifier = can kill through support ultimates, this combo requires communication, tho!
- namor + rocket amplifier
- jean grey + mag + rocket amplifier = can kill any support out of their ultimate
- doctor strange + bucky + rocket amplifier

edit: I forgot to mention, rocket ult can counter mr. fantastic & bucky ult, punisher ult I would not recommend putting it against because you can kill while being in it, and punisher can shred it, elsa can kill you through your ult so she's somewhat a really bad matchup against rocket.
B.R.B is his revive, you can make this a habit by putting it down at spawn, this mostly works in domination or attack on convoy/convergence, defense people just walk pass it so I don't really bother doing it.
