"If you want to change the world, you must first start with yourself." So... I have decided to go vegan. I started on November 18th, the day I touched down in Palma and gained the support of my good friend Kendall, and I will fully commit by January 1st 2018. . First, people are concerned that I will not be eating properly. To that I really do laugh! I will be eating better than ever! Sure, eating out might be limiting or difficult, especially in this part of the world. But eating at home.. I'm going to be much more creative, healthy and will know almost exactly what is going into my body. . People will ask why... The main reason is for a more sustainable lifestyle. I've lived with and am friends with many vegans now and they're reasons are golden. By not contributing to the livestock industry anymore, this is my way of attempting to (drastically) reduce my carbon footprint. To those who argue about soy beans - the biggest consumer are the animals you eat. But I will be avoiding soy products if I can. . My other reasons include a more healthy lifestyle - that metabolism just isn't what it used to be! Unfortunately I have other medical conditions that also drain my energy, so this is one way I can fight back. Also, I used to enjoy cooking, but got a bit bored.. Now I have a challenge and I like challenges! . I'm not going to preach about this, we're all adults and we can make our own decisions for ourselves and our children. These decisions must be respected, so please respect mine. I am doing something that I believe will not only just help myself, but will help planet and it's future too. . Wandering the streets of Palma was like being a child again. Everything was new, fresh and exciting. Considering this was the quiet season, there was still enough hustle and bustle keeping the veins of city life flowing. The advantage being that it was full of locals not tourists, giving me a chance to práctica mí español. . A maze of tiny, beautifully kept, streets leading to a 'plaça' full of quaint restaurants boasting the best local olives and freshest ingredients. I spent hours wandering, just choosing the next interesting looking thoroughfare. I'm having an absolute blast in Mallorca. Literally! Cruising around on the back of Kendall's bike, winding through the mountains and getting up to some pretty high speeds, whilst getting higher on the views endured. . I'm four days in and I've only spend a grand total of one hour on the beach, most of which I slept! The city of Palma and the island of Mallorca are absolutely beautiful. Despite my constant travels and moving around, it somehow felt risky to make the move to Vancouver Island, but fortune always favours the brave, right!? Well, it certainly did this time. Four months has gone by way too fast and I am not ready to go. A small city on a large island that was constantly full of beauty, wonder and pleasant surprises. Downtown beauty, birthdays, free concerts, festivals, beaches, roadtrips, "mountains", sunsets, amazing views, bike rides, boat rides, bus rides, friendship and love. Goodbye Victoria.
