Do you like things to be carefully planned or do you prefer to just go with the flow?
“I’m aiming for going with the flow. Wanting everything to be carefully planned is boring; I like spontaneous things.”

EMILY WALSH.
Despite traveling to many other countries, Emily still couldn’t help but feel slightly out of place in Devinstone. America was so different, but she was sure she’d adjust sooner or later. Being around Robert made her feel a little less alone since he too was from the United Kingdom. “That’s why I don’t really drink. I become a completely different person,” she confessed before finally taking a sip of the whiskey, wrinkling her nose at the strong taste. When she did drink, it was usually a glass of wine here and there. “It’s really not a big deal. I’m just a bit stressed out, that’s all,” she admitted. It wasn’t anything she couldn’t handle though. She’d find a way to manage. In response to Robert’s words, she let out a laugh. “Excellent, I’m pleased to hear that you’ve found time to take some showers. How is the painting going?”
There are Scots that opt not to drink alcoholic beverages, however Robert hasn’t found himself hanging around one without at least a single bottle of Whiskey stashed in their home. It could be the culture that he’s been exposed to; the branding of Whiskey worldwide. Although residing in a religious home, the celebratory drink has always been the finest bottle of Whiskey, hence his utmost praise for the alcoholic drink. He respected Emily’s choice not to drink often, but he simply couldn’t imagine himself doing the same thing.  “I drink, but not heavily enough to the point where I black out. Alcohol consumption is all about proper management; if you know you’re a lightweight, I just.. I wouldn’t recommend drinking, period. Not even a beer. Nothing’s worse than someone who can’t function when drinking. It’s worrisome,” he admitted, fiddling with the rim of his glass. Entertaining to an extent, yet still worrisome. Eyes searched hers for sureness in her words, truthfully not perturbed if she needed to confide in him. Preferring to withdraw himself from pushing forth on the topic, Robert shrugged. “Alright, cool. The painting’s going fine. I’m still struggling to get enough customers, though. Do you happen to know anyone in need of a piece of work?” Or even if she requested one for herself, he thought, wrapping his mind around the idea.
HENRY ARNAULT.
If the blonde hadn’t mentioned something, Henry would’ve passed on him to carry on his daily activities, not even bothering much with the whole scene that was unfolding in front of him. You see, he wasn’t much of a people watching kind of guy and honestly didn’t care much about how one or another would act. “Not really,” he answered looking at the fellow blonde male with a certain curiosity. “But I hardly believe what the show us is what it is truly inside of them. No one shows what lies deep inside of them, they just show what others want to see.” Henry shared out his thoughts, that weren’t all that different than the other were. But as he gave an input on how he viewed himself, Henry’s brows raised as he stared at him, not so certain if he was being honest or not. “Cullen? Isn’t that the guy that shines in the sun? Interesting comparison.”
They just show what others want to see. The statement repeated rapidly in his head, quieting him briefly for a moment of reflection. As an artist, Robert thought deeply —- he thought meaningfully, wanting to analyze each and every aspect to a tee. “You could be right. You could also be wrong. Who knows? There’s no definite answer; opinions always differ. What you say now could change in the future.” He operated in a philosophical manner. It became part of his erudite character; perhaps a flaw or fault. As if fingers were snapped for him to jump back to reality, his featured formed into a pleased expression, thrilled at the recognition of the pop culture mention. “Yes! It’s an interesting comparison, but an accurate one. He literally read minds. Granted, Twilight isn’t.. er, everyone’s cup of tea; it’s not even my cup of tea, nonetheless the example does fit. Did I happen to give you a good food for thought the past few minutes?”Â

SUMMER ADAIR.
WHO: OPEN @devinstonestarters·
WHEN:Â 4-5-2020 Sunday anytime
WHERE: Anywhere
Crossing her legs and slouching in her chair Summer gestured to the few people here and there going about their lives as if nothing or no one else existed. The fact that there were people in the world right now who she had never known and would likely never knew blew her mind. Then as if her mind was working against her she thought of her mother. How she was existing somewhere right now. Summer wasn’t sure where, or what she was up to - only that she hadn’t bothered to reach out to her in over ten years. Ten years gone and it still hurt. Clearing her throat Summer tilted her head towards them and with a disinterested sigh that betrayed the puttering of memories berating her heart she rolled her eyes,“Narcissism is real and fleeting. This statement was narcissistic because it valued how other people tend to make things about themselves, and not about me. So who’s selfish, me or them?”
He left his home, once again, to increase his inspiration. The entertainment of a conversation about narcissism completely caught him off guard in the midst of his gazing, pursing his lips as he struggled to find the right answer —- if there is one. “I’m not denying that people are narcissistic because I’ve met a few I could hardly tolerate,” Robert conceded. “But everyone in general has their fickle moments; I feel like there are reasons behind the way someone chooses to act. It could be their upbringing.. the friends they surround themselves with. Do you consider yourself a selfish person?” He asked, furrowing his brows. “I think.. you shouldn’t care about how others view you. I also think you shouldn’t care about how others react —- how they live their life if its not directly impacting you. Mute unnecessary opinions out, especially if you don’t know them. Isn’t that a problem in itself? Caring about who’s narcissistic?”
SOPHIA CONNOLY.
Sophia peered at him almost shamefully when he mentioned how she should not let other people dictate the choices that she’d made or let them make her feel bad for them. Swallowing thickly, she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear and bit her lower lip. Perhaps what felt worse was that a stranger — someone who didn’t know her completely — had managed to pick up on it. “I’ve kind of been judge for my actions most of my life. It’s hard to get out of that, even at my age now.” She told him truthfully and only hoped he didn’t think it was because she needed some sort of pity from him. While she prided herself on proving people wrong, she always had a need to explain. “I also recently got divorced and that….” She paused with a laugh, knowing the male didn’t want to hear her whole life story and why she felt the way she did. “Sorry, I don’t want to burden you with all of this. It’s just been some rough few months and I’m just starting to get over it.” Nevertheless, she’d spent those months explaining over and over again why she was alone and what had happened. People looked down on divorced and always had their opinions about what she could do better. Especially since Ava was not conventional to all other children. Her hair was chopped short, she liked boys clothes, and was always stained with some dirt, markers or paint. Peering back at Ava, she smiled at the male and nodded her head. “Okay, I promise I’m not going to ask you again if you’re certain.” She gave him a nod and laughed, feeling her cheeks flushed red. “But I will thank you for the tenth time. But also, know that I feed people because I’m passionate about it so you’re not that special.” She winked at him, despite having given him more free food than she did other people. But he was a regular and she always went out of her way for her customers.
A shake of her head sent auburn curls flying as her hand pressed to her chest. “No! I didn’t think that you were going to cut contact. I like to believe that my food truck is better than that.” Again, another poor timed joke. “I was just concerned by what you would think. I guess being a mother isn’t always as attractive.” Now, her cheeks flared up as her hands rose. “Not that I think you find me attractive to begin with, but it’s been a point of contention when it comes to meeting other people so I’m on the defensive about it sometimes.” She shrugged in the hope it was a good enough explanation. Smiling with a nod when they both agreed on her visits to his studio and the amount for the sandwich, her brow raised at his question. “The babysitter is picking Ava up to bring her to her father’s while I head out to a festival just outside of town. There’s a lot of local artists who go to show off their sculptures and it’s a great venue to visit for ideas. They serve a lot of different drinks and food.”
Since meeting her daughter, he could tell the bond between the two is an inseparable one. To be under the supervision of one parent is an experience he’s never dealt with before, grateful to have shared a roof over his head with both. Of course, not all environments are the same; toxicity can take place in a household with a relationship still in tact, and one could hope that Sophia managed to not suffer through a situation such as that. After a while, age has no boundaries when it comes to knowing the difference between right and wrong —- to prevent yourself from exemplifying the standard of a single parent because of the stereotypical mindset of others is outright dangerous. And there’s nothing wrong with looking after a child jointly with your former partner, it’s the presumption that its not deemed normal that creates friction. “You’re young,” Robert specified, “There’s a lot of people out there that wished they could have proper communication with their former spouse. Some aren’t able to stomach being in the same room as each other.” This could feasibly play a part in his dismissiveness over the idea of being married currently. Although he never had a particular issue with monogamy, his upbringing is how he planned on operating his own marriage if that ever comes to light; to maneuver through problems without the need to form a hassle. Unfortunately, Robert never succeeded with maintaining a liking towards another woman, often preoccupied with work. Approaching his forties led to further isolation, not yearning for the need of companionship at the time being. “You’ve hardly been a burden, Sophia. I mean, truly —- I am thankful for the assistance I’ve received since moving to Devinstone. You can thank me for the fiftieth time, it’s fine.” The amount of funds Robert has is enough to keep him on his two feet for the next couple of years or even decades. He simply chose not to brag about his resources; the richness that he was exposed to. Mouth settling into a hard line, he skittishly took offense. Sarcasm filled the atmosphere.Â
“Certainly I have to be special enough to get a meal better than most of your customers,” he stated as a matter-of-factly, not minding a debate on his stance. Attractiveness is subjective. Sophia was, well —- she is attractive. He has no reason to blatantly lie about that, unfazed by his admittance following shortly. “You’re concerned about the wrong things, and I think that’s the major problem here.” The corner of his eyes crinkled, gawking warily. “You’re appealing to look at. I’ve never not once thought otherwise; a blind man would agree. Motherhood is more intimate, in my opinion, when it comes to parenting; you carried a child. If someone believes there’s nothing attractive about that, why bother entertaining to keep a conversation furthermore?” Without a need to continue their conversation on that topic, Robert changed it swiftly. “Anyway,” he began, “The festival sounds fun. Drinks and food sounds like a blast. I hope you enjoy yourself.” He found offering to attend a bit odd considering what was said minutes prior, anticipating for it to not get taken in a different light. As much as he found her attractive, it didn’t exactly mean he wanted to pursue anything even if it were with someone else, although again, this is subjective to change depending on the amount of attraction felt.                      Â
RUPERT AMBROSIA.
The lecture isn’t as patronising as it arguably ought to be. Even if he understands the artistic process intimately, well-versed in working with the mentioned materials, it’s fascinating to see a real artist in their element. Roo has never been able to reconcile himself with the fact that he’s a real artist too – anyone who creates, regardless of their circumstances, earns that title – and invariably feels like a fraud in the presence of people like Robert. To call Robert’s artwork beautiful would be an unforgivable oversimplification. Words fail him. All he can do is watch in hushed awe, a soft huff of amusement escaping at the joke. You might as well become an artist yourself. “Wouldn’t that be something?” It’s nothing more than a gentle murmur, his gaze never straying from the canvas. “I hardly think I’m in a position to offer you critique.” Humility isn’t typically in Roo’s repertoire, but he finds himself unable to lie. “I mean, you’re, like, a literal genius. Your use of colour is heavenly. I don’t think I agree about pastel, though. It’s too delicate. It straddles the line between drawing and painting, sure, but for me? It’s not painting. Not really.”
The only word that seemed to describe Rupert is endearing. In Scotland, Robert tended to be sugarcoated; the utmost respect was given to him, and while he adored that, the fame that came with holding such a high torch in the arts can become overwhelming. The response in America is one he didn’t favor all too much, however the intimateness of explaining his pieces proved to make him feel comfortable. Encouragement; to motivate, so to speak, is what he desires to bring to Massachusetts —- to Devinstone. Anyone is capable of picking up a tool to create something. What matters is further stimulation to continue that craft. “But I do mean that, Rupert. You should try; there are no limits when it comes to art. It’s a practice that requires time, nonetheless. Different elements compose painting, therefore you’ll be skilled in not just one domain. Like I said,” Robert repeated once more, unable to hold back a teasing wink. “There are no limitations. Plenty to explore, choose your options. I do, however, like comments; critique doesn’t necessarily equate to being bad, correct?” A common misconception many people make, and this doesn’t apply to just the arts, but life in general. “I mean, geez —- thanks,” he accepted as his cheeks flushed, lowering his head due to self consciousness. “Then that puts you and I in the same boat. Pastel is still beautiful. Delicate, again; smooth.. playful. What are you interested in? We’ve spoken a lot about me and not enough about you.”

For the past several minutes, he thoughtfully observed those that walked past him; from the manner in which they dressed to the body language exhibited, the analyzation amused Robert greatly. As knuckled cracked, the blissful painter let out a long sigh of despair in hopes of developing a meaningful, sagacious conversation. “You ever wondered what’s occupying someone’s mind? If how they present themselves is truly a reflection of what’s going on deep inside of them —- sort of like a mask,” he voiced, attempting to present further clarification. “I ask questions a lot because I’m a curious person; curiosity is in my nature. Doing this makes me feel like a Cullen, the character from Twilight, particularly when he’s at dinner with Bella someway, somehow explaining their thoughts.” A playful joke, but an accurate representation of how he felt at this given moment. / @georgiewallace, @drarnault
EMILY WALSH.
Emily wasn’t that fond of drinking, but she went along with Robert’s offer. It was a reason for her to get out of the house and see more of the town she had lived in for nearly four months already. “Well, yes, I suppose it does. Liquor tends to do that, doesn’t it?” She said with a small laugh, hesitantly taking the glass of scotch whiskey. “I will say it’s amusing. These places are great for people watching.” In response to Robert’s question, Emily simply shrugged her shoulders. He was right, she was being relatively quiet. “Sorry, I’ve got a lot on my mind…nothing worth talking about, though.” Emily was never the type to bother people with her problems. “So, what’s new with you?”
To know someone that grew up in a familiar setting as him made him feel more at ease while residing in Devinstone. As many knew, to settle down in a town that had an environment completely different to what he’s exposed to created conflict within himself. The difference in weather.. the difference in dialogue; the lack of the same terminology or others struggling to comprehend what he’s expressing due to his thick, rugged accent made him prone to spend more time in his studio where the voices of others became completely shut out. His glass lifted to indicate for a small cheers, encouragingly nodding his head; Robert honestly appreciating Emily for taking time from her day to spend with him. “Liquor does tend to do that. Dumb and dumber, I suppose —- nonetheless, enjoyable. Ah, you see; now this wasn’t too bad,” he rightfully projected, features filled with gleam. Imperceptible confusion became clear as day, swallowing thickly. “Nothing worth talking about? You still mentioned it, though. If you do want to vent, however, I’m all ears.” New to him is nonviable, hence his scoff. “As per usual, my schedule is the same; eat, paint, eat, and sleep. Squeeze in a couple of showers here and there, too. I’ve became accustomed to being boring,” he could tease.
