Things come apart

"Things come a have been refining the art of disassembly since childhood. As a kid, I was caught in my room taking apart my toys with a hammer, and in secondary school I almost completely disassembled my 1985 Hyundai Pony car. If an object interested me, it would soon be in pieces."

How far is it to Mars?

This site has been around for a while now, but it's still a great example of what can be done with a really simple idea, a few nice graphics and some basic coding.

On a similar Mars theme there's also the Mars One project, which looks like combining all of the magic of space travel with everythig that's wrong with Big Brother. Check it out here.

What if animals were just more round?

Have you ever wondered what it would be ike it animals were more round? Probably not but the folks over on the ROLLIN' WILD! project certainly have, to hilarious effect. Created as a third year animation project it consists of a series of shorts, my favourite of which is probably the inflated crocodile doing a pretty poor job of catching its next meal. There's also a couple of cool wallpapers to bag over on their facebook page.

Client feedback posters

This collection of posters will have a familiar feeling for many designers. Based around some of the stranger pieces of client feedback these posters are submitted by various creatives from advertisers to illsutrators for an exhibition at The Little Green Café bar and gallery in Ireland. All of the proceedes from the sale of these limited edition prints went to Temple Street Children's Hospital.

My personal favourite has to be the attempt as printing an animated gif, only to find that all of the movement disappears.

Bond cars through the ages

Evans Halshaw, one of the leading used car dealerships in the UK, has produced this info site featuring all of the Bond cars featured in each film from the very first Sunbeam Alpine featured in Dr No, to Bond's latest addition of the Land Rover in Skyfall. It features some very slick animations based around the famous Bond circle activated by position the user has scrolled to on the page.

I was first brought to the site because of its interesting design and subject matter and it took me a while to realise the Evans Halshaw connection, which perhaps need to be a little clearers. I does though also offer dsktop wallpapers of each car as well as the ability to embed it as an infographic into your own site so well worth a visit for anyone even remotely interested in Bond and his cars.

Branding in reverse by Ben Pieratt

This is an interesting concept by brand design Ben Pieratt. Here instead of being approached to create branding around central theme, product or service this brand has no such ties. It really is a brand and nothing else, created entirely from a design perspective. There is no business behind it and there is nothing for sale other than the brand itself. The idea is that someone will buy the brand and fit the necessary business aspects onto it.

It's a concept that flips the idea of the branding process on its head and it can be yours for $18,000. It'll be worth following if there are any takers, what the brand ends up becoming and how this bolt on approach fares. If all goes well Ben hopes to create more brands and sell them in this way for increasing sums in the future.

Shugo Tokumaru "Katachi"

Created double team Kijek/Adamski have made this stunning stop motion video for Japanese musician Shugo Tokumaru. The title of the song 'Katachi', literally means shape and that provides the inspiration for this pieces contains over 2000 laser cut pvc shapes. Particular highlights come when the song really picks up pace of breaks down into a bewildering array of shapes and colour. I'm sure I even saw the Scottish flag in the mix at some point.

I can't help thinking while watching this that it would look perfect as a piece of TV advertising if the idea was taken even further.

Sporting still lifes

Gemma Fletcher and Kelvin Murray have worked together on this stunning series of photographs depicting bat, rackets and balls suspended in action above a vertical white step, over what would ordinarily be a flat white line in each sport. The thing that draws me towards these images is the strong sense of graphical style in each one. The edges are sharp and the step breaks up the shadow, adding an extra dimension to each one.

Interestingly none of them feature any human beings which only adds to the ingrigue of how theyhwo they were photographed. In my head I'd rather imagine them to be thrown and caught in the act by the photgrapher, rather than hung with string which is then photoshopped out.

A lovely cup of tea

Great use of ribbon typography in this tea packaging. The only concern may be the readability of what the item actually is as the rest of the packaging doesn't particularly scream tea.

Moo adverts

Continuing the stop motion theme here's another ad from Moo. In total each 30 second ad uses about 450 individual photographs and the actor had to sit for a total of around 24 hours for each one. You can check out the originals here or watch the making of opposite.

Starbucks have recently launched a new advertising campaign with the aim of making Mondays more bearable with an early morning latte. The use of stop motion is brilliant and the Starbucks coffee cup ensures that the brand is always the focus of attention.
