he was frustrated, hurt, and angry. irrational doesnt even begin to describe the feelings he was drowning in.

it wasnt connors fault. the android was trapped in a program, caught between a line of code and a company full of heartless bastards breathing down his neck.

of course he would answer so mechanically. hank shouldve been used to it by then.

but he wasnt. it never made sense. connor would act so human. between his goofy face and attitude, all the times he gave up in his mission to save someone else–hank included–hank truly thought the android… cared? that he had feelings?

but his talk with hank felt so… lifeless. so fucking empty. like he was nothing but a puppet.

so hank drew his gun, and asked the question thats been digging at his brain.

“what are you really?”

and when connors answer was that he was just a stupid fucking machine, something flooded hank.

rage.

and he pulled the trigger.

and he killed him.

and now he sits on his couch, downing a bottle of booze. filled with regret.

he took the life of someone who never stood a chance. someone who showed his personhood time and time again. all because of one question.

hank cries for the first time since cole died.

cyberlife doesnt care enough to look into the model, assuming it deactivating was a malfunction. they send out a second connor to replace it, this connor also not knowing what happened to its predecessor, and goes on like normal.

i was originally thinking of vampirism within androids, but landed on the idea that taking thirium from one android would be closer to survival cannibalism.

vampirism typically has a host who can transform humans (or in this case androids), growing of fangs, an inability to be in sunlight, and a biological thirst for blood. also, a large percent of vampirism in media includes non-lethal blood consumption.

with androids, the spread would not be through a bite, more likely it would be through a virus. on top of that, their teeth would not be able to grow into fangs. they could develop an insensitivity to sunlight if the virus changes the way their eyes or skin works, but it wouldnt be the same. the thirst for blood wouldnt be anything new, as they run off of blue blood; and siphoning the blood out would likely severely damage or kill another android.

this could all make for a good vampirism au, sure, but it isnt what i would typically picture. since their need to consume blue blood is already in place, it wouldnt be much different than canon if there was a vampirism virus, they would just seek the blood our more. also, i dont like the ideas of viruses spreading to androids, because i always picture them spreading the way markus converts deviants. if you dont need to touch them to induce the virus, then you could infect every android ever ykwim.

so i went to cannibalism, instead of there being any sort of malfunction causing them to attack other androids for thirium that they dont need, they do it out of sheer desperation to survive. if theyre bleeding out, low on thirium, then they may resort to stealing it from someone else (alive or dead.) it also fits in with canon better, since taking parts from androids is already a thing.

on the other side of the city, markus north josh and simon are busy signing shit for their next merch drop, not knowing theres a grumpy old guy waiting to buy as many copies as he can.
