Last night I had a horrible time falling asleep, pretty sure I didn't catch a wink before 4am. The comfort of my bed overwhelmed me compared to the twin I had slept on most of the week at the beach house and I was wracked by the threat of nightmares. I've been able to stave off the effects of this depressive episode for the most part, but if this wasn't proof that it hasn't ended yet I don't know what is. Here's hoping tonight is better!

I had a lovely time at the beach with my family the past few days! And though I return sunburnt, confused as to what day it is, and wondering when my legs are going to stop working, I certainly enjoyed it all! Also I had crab in one form or another every day I was there, including some of the most incredible crab cakes I've every had! And now I'm just very glad to be home and to sleep in my own bed!

Nothing is true, everything is permitted. The Maxim of the Assassin's Creed. One of the main reasons I love this series is that the Creed itself resonates with me, and I can see how it applies to real life. Many things in the series have parallels to the real world, sometimes to the point where I wonder if a similar organization to the Templars may actually exist. And if it does, where are our Assassins? I know we're not supposed to see them, as they work in the darkness to serve the light, but you'd think there'd be more, y'know, assassinations of prominently evil public figures if they did exist. Have people just written it off as another sci-fi story, and not actually understood the parallels? Has nobody taken influence in such a direction as to actually start their own Brotherhood? I don't expect to ever get any answers to these questions, especially not on social media, but every time I see a politician try to take away more and more of our freedoms I sincerely hope someone is out there. Waiting in the shadows. With a hidden blade at the ready.

Profanity filters on single-player games are just so... incredibly performative. They don't 'protect' the player from seeing the word (you have to type it in order to activate the filter), the only thing they do is scold the player.

My favorite solution to people who get offended at the things they themselves typed is a disclaimer on a puzzle page that said "If you type profanity you will see it."

It's really funny and jarring when you encounter a profanity filter in a single-player m-rated grown-up game for adults, but I don't think they even make sense in kid's games. If anything I think "If you tell the computer to call you FuckNugget it will do that" is exactly the sort of obvious, low-stakes 'actions have consequences' lesson that's perfect for kids.

Happy ten year anniversary of this post.

I am sadly being reminded that only some of the shanties in Black Flag are actually good. There are still more for me to collect of course! But of the ones I have so far, I've already found myself skipping ahead in the list a few times.

However, I will never tired of one of the lines Edward has to get the crew to start singing, because he just calls out, "Shanty!" That's it! Time for shanty I guess!

Finally got all my CTCon pictures up! There are a few I didn't get myself, mostly the celeb shots that were taken on my friends' phones. It was a lot to go through, there were nearly 200 including the duplicates! Trimmed it down to around 130, but captioning each and every one of them took a while! Glad I got it done!
