josie sat alone on her blanket, opening up the basket that her aunt had prepared for her. her aunt had offered to join her, but josie knew it was just because she felt bad—her aunt was way too busy today, but it meant a lot that she had offered. truthfully, josie didn’t mind coming to something like this on her own. it reminded her of her childhood, when her parents would arrange for her to attend some exciting event on her own—which, by the way, she had always hated. this time was different, though. she was alone by choice, and that in itself made her feel better about the quiet. it was peaceful, giving her time to think.
