“you’re not wrong,” cal said, laughing, amused that he felt almost validated by rizo’s opinion on his favorite party songs. he hesitated a moment, looking out at the floor before he moved his gaze back to the other. “i don’t know. the only dancing i ever do is swaying side to side with raina,” he teased. “but if cotton eyed joe comes on, i’m your guy.” 

           “and i’ll make sure you guys get to do the slow dances. i’m not gonna hog you for those parts.” he’s team calraina and he won’t get in the way of true love, after all! “a bop. hey, how do you feel about singalongs? not quite a lot of dancing, but definitely a lot of singing along to?”

Rizo’s actually pretty low on the list of people Kat wants to goad, so any disappointment at his boring response twinges instead of excites. “Lost track. What day’s today?” they ask absently, rotating their attention back to the screen. As if it’s been days instead of an hour or two, but they’re never one for straight answers. Kat got a few more turns before THURSDAY delivers the finishing blow, a royal flush, clinching their second loss of the day. “Fucking hell,” they push through an incredulous laugh, leaning back in the computer chair. Kat glances at Riz, finger jutting out to challenge ‘im. “Think you can do better?”

Was that her reputation around campus now? That she was the person to go to if someone needed a new leg, like a sort of leg fairy godmother? Carmen supposed that there were worse things to be known as. “Well I built Tobi one that was from the knee down but it sounds like your friend still has his leg and if he does then he doesn’t need a prosthetic,” she explained. If the leg was going to come off then that was a different story. “Maybe….a brace?”

             eyes widened and he claps in realization. “yes! that! a brace. sorry, it seemed that i did forget there was a solution before a necessary surgery.” if only his parents could see him now; they’d be relieved he wasn’t going into medical school. “between the two of us, this friend and i .. we’re not quite talking just yet. but .. maybe this brace might make for a good ice breaker. you know, for the eventual reunion.” because no matter what happens, rizo always had a place in his heart for his friends. “do you take only cash or cards too?”

“R-Tech is always hiring.” She says with a smirk, mostly joking, though the thought of working at the same place as Rizo sounds pretty cool. But there’s something high stakes about the CIA that she knows is appealing. At R-Tech they’re protecting from security breaches, at the CIA they’re causing said security breaches. She doesn’t know how to react to people so openly expressing worry for her; coming from Rizo it softens her and she thins her lips into a light smile. “Glad to be back and safe.” She says casually, falls back into her seat too. “Have you seen Minority Report?” A pause. “I’ve been thinking a lot about the sonic shotgun.” 

          “you’d be the best boss ever. i’ll keep you guys in mind if the c.i.a. gets too boring.” he responds. it would be a pipe dream; having all his friends and him work in the same place. he was just happy that they were all basically in the same field of work. sort of. at the mention of the movie, he found himself nodding excitedly at the potential. “say less, rei. we can work on it whenever. you know i’ll make the time for it.”

“Don’t care, I just don’t want to do it.” If she applied herself properly then maybe she’ll do fine. But this was Ai, she didn’t want to do shit. “What’s a test folder?” 

“Of course I would” he said, a beaming smile forming on his lips. “For free” he confirmed, rubbing his hands together. “Sword fighting is my passion and I would love to pass it on to someone else”

“I hate that.” Why couldn’t their group get sent elsewhere? Why a difficult spy school like Gallagher? “Can’t I just cheat off on you during our final?”
