waves riled up

his head is tilted up, eyes closed and throat bared to her, but he’s got enough of his sense left to crack a smile at her words, the joke that he knows is going to come back to kick him in the ass the next time they find themselves in bed together. something that’s been occurring more and more recently. with the weight of jyn on his lap, and her teasing in his ear, he’s pretty sure this is as close to peace as he’s likely to get in this war. 

There weren’t many people still walking the earth knew about him and Raylan. Ava and Johnny. Maybe a few others. Occasionally, there were whispers, but no one dared to bring it up to Boyd himself. Enough time had passed that they’d become Harlan legends. Givens and Crowder. One got out and the other didn’t.

We dug coal together is an easy way to say everything and nothing at all. One with a keen ear might be able to suss out the meaning of those four simple words. Boyd is self aware enough that he’s enjoyed pushing Raylan since his return to Harlan. That disastrous dinner he took at Ava’s aside. He’d thought that maybe, just maybe, Raylan would crack and seek out his company one night. For old times’ sake. But no, it seems that Raylan was determined to fuck every other pretty thing in Kentucky first.

Boyd is watching Tim, considering everything carefully as his hands trace absent patterns over skin. He can’t lie. The idea is a tempting one. Who wouldn’t want two handsome deputy US Marshals in their bed.

“Boy, you ain’t stupid or dumb an’ anyone who thinks so deserves to have one of your bullets in their skull.”

There’s a smirk and he leans up to drag his lips over Tim’s jaw. “You ain’t gotta convince me. Now Raylan? He’s gonna need a little bit of work. Gotta take it easy with him. He might spook like an unbroken horse.”

Tim didn’t care much for school, it all seemed pointless when he and every other boy in his town knew that they were gonna end up working on the rigs with their dad’s and older brothers. When Tim had let himself dream of getting out it sure as shit hadn’t looked like this, in bed with a man a decade older, more deaths between them then he could even consider counting. But, he’s gotta admit, it looks a lot better than his dreams did. 

When a soldier, some man that looked like he stepped off the damn recruitment ads, approached him and asked about what he wanted to do when he graduated, Tim had shrugged, said he mostly just planned to spend his time so drunk that he forgot his own damn name. He’d slipped Tim his business card without another word and moved on to the next kid that he thought he could get to sign up for the army. 

“Nah, I was getting by on my looks and I plan to keep doing that, served me well so far.” He tugs on Boyd’s jeans, popping open the button but not feeling the need to do more at the moment, against his better judgment he has started to enjoy their back and forths, “If I shot everyone that called me stupid we’d never have time for anything else,” his voice is as light as the joke is dark.
