Spoilers and Leaks Weekly Roundup

First off, some leftovers from last week… TV Insider posted some excellent Season 2 BTS photos!

When RAS announced the drop date for Sabrina on Monday, he posted a photo on Instagram featuring Jordan and Drew hidden away in the back. Potential Riverdale/Sabrina crossover?

Vanessa Morgan posted a photo of the Riverdale High seal on her Instagram story.

On Tuesday, Doug Schwartz of the Riverdale crew posted a photo of him manning a camera with the location tagged as “Riverview Hospital.” The hospital, a historic insane asylum in Vancouver, is allegedly haunted. It’s also one of the most-filmed locations in the area. This spot serves as the set for the Sisters of Quite Mercy, and reportedly for Southside High as well.

Lili posted a series of photos on her Instagram story while filming a scene with Cole, Skeet, and Madchen.

On Wednesday, Spoiler TV revealed that 3.04 will be titled “The Midnight Club.” There are at least two books with this title, one by Christopher Pike and one by James Patterson. Pike’s novel is about five teenagers in a facility for terminally ill people who meet every night to tell each other scary stories. They make a pact that the first of them to die must try to contact the others from beyond the grave. Patterson’s “Midnight Club” is about a mobster who butts heads with a very determined cop and his group of crime fighters.

Scott Elwood, who’s on the Riverdale props team, shared a bunch of the behind the scenes photos with some nice set details, including a doorknob, plumbing pipes, and a ceiling light. He also posted from a school in the Philippines, with a caption and hashtags indicating the sight might be a Riverdale jail cell.

Madelaine, Vanessa, and RAS shared some adorable Choni photos on Instagram Thursday.

RAS also confirmed the title of 3.04 by posting the script cover on Instagram with the caption “#Riverdale fans…prepare to lose your minds over this episode… One of my all-time faves.”

@dudebroreg posted some interesting, in-depth insights about what the cover image could suggest about the episode!

Riverdale Brazil released Season 1 promo photos.

On Friday, Archie Comics posted a new Season 2 deleted scene.

Someone leaked info on the deleted scenes that will be available on the Season 2 DVD. Important takeaways: Varchie scenes, Choni scenes, but no direct Bughead scenes. However, there’s a Betty scene with Jughead narrating, a Jughead/Archie scene, and a Jughead/FP scene. There’s also a making of the musical featurette with Kevin, a scene of all the characters with clothes of different eras at Pop’s, a scene with Betty and Archie, Alice content, and plenty of solo Betty scenes. The Choni duet that was released digitally isn’t on the DVD, so we’re holding out hope that we’ll get Bughead scenes digitally in the coming months, and hopefully some Bughead bloopers too.

Chapter 3: Body Double

Body Double: The 1984 film Body Double is itself a callback to several of Alfred Hitchcock’s most famous films from the 1950s. Body Double deals with the overall themes of voyeurism and obsession as the main character witnesses a murder in a neighboring home while watching through the windows. Later, he discovers that the person he thought he was watching every evening previous to the murder was, in fact, a body double and not the woman who met her untimely demise.  In Riverdale, this episode is when we are introduced to “Dark Betty.” This persona is a body double for the girl-next-door persona Betty traditionally exhibits.

TonY Topaz: Amid all the the comments on Chuck’s “sticky maple” post is one from a Tony Topaz simply saying, “No gracias.” It’s not our Toni, of course, but for a show that had no idea it would get a second season? What a great self-reference. (photo)

Cherry theft: Getting right into the investigation, Jughead corners Dilton Doiley at Pop’s. Jug reaches across the table and swipes the cherry from the top of Dilton’s milkshake - a move directly inspired by L from the anime Death Note a character known for being able to tie cherry stems into knots inside his mouth and who is also a detective working through a murder case.  

Full Dark, No Stars: Aiming to seek revenge for what Chuck did to her, Veronica tells Betty that it’s time to go “full dark, no stars.” This 2010 Stephen King publication of the same name contains four novellas dealing with one central theme: retribution.

#JusticeforEthel: Cheryl drops this line just as we find out what has happened to the football team after Betty’s expose in the Blue & Gold. The actress who plays Ethel Muggs is the same actress who plays Barb in Stranger Things. Spoiler Alert (if you haven’t seen Stranger Things): Barb dies very early on & there was a huge social media campaign surrounding it called #JusticeforBarb.

Book Club! We’re starting (or in some cases, we have already started) “Eliza and Her Monsters” by Francescia Zappia. You can read at your own pace, but we ask that you don’t spoil it for other people, so discuss it amongst yourselves in DMs. We will have our first discussion on August 13th.

Trivia! Wednesday, August 9th, we’ll have a trivia afternoon and night. This week we’re covering episodes 2.03-2.07. The times for that are 12pm PST, 3pm EST, and 8pm BST. Then again at 5pm PST, 8pm EST, and 1am BST. SIGN UP HERE!
