another hot take: theyre cats from a book and people can draw them however they want without worrying about some weird objective scale of “I Can’t Recognize That so It’s Bad.” it’s one thing to say something is not a recognizable design (and let’s be real: almost none of the cat designs I see are immediately recognizable because they are *cats.* from a book series. they can only get so different); it’s another thing to say that different design is Bad Character Design because.. what? it wasn’t described like that in the book? then why are some other popular headcanons okay and suddenly recognizable?

Like it’s really weird that y'all see some cat described as thin in the book drawn as pudgy or give them a flower accessory and that’s “creative and innovative” but if it’s drawn as a calico or something y'all be like “that’s too far :/ I’ve never seen that before so it must be bad”. this is really not what character design is (while we talk about good character design, how’s that silhouette technique working out?) . that’s just following conventions.

2. i literally do not know what to tell you if you think if you think having a consistent art style is SFS, because that’s what it is. this is not SFS. The eyes, fur types, face shapes are different, but having a same general way you draw a head or fur or eye is not SFS, good God.

3. You’re not providing anything valid in the first place. You’re deflecting Climb’s opinion into an attack on her art. Climb posted a completely valid opinion on her own blog and never mentioned anyone else in it. It’s absolutely absurd that people are upset over it. Climb wasn’t critiquing anyone specific when she posted an opinion so stop acting like she went on someone’s blog and picked apart their art, like *gasp* you are doing.

Art that is completely unrecognizable to it’s canon is bad character design. It’s harsh but its true, and it is only a controversial opinion on Tumblr.com. I’m not going to sit here and pretend that something like this is valid

2. “just say you don’t like it and move on” That’s literally what she did? You all  were the ones attacking her about it. She said she didn’t like it and thought it was bad character design and moved on. She didn’t attack anyone, she didn’t @ anyone. And clearly you know that since now you just admitted it was her opinion. 

But you are saying she is attacking someone, when you are the one attacking her art? You’re the one who took the time to overlay her art in manipulative ways, not her. You’re the one going on her blog, probably sending anons too, and giving unwanted critiques, not her.

She posted an opinion on her own blog. You came to her blog, making false, invalid complaints about her art, because you’re offended she doesn’t like somebody else’s interpretations?

You’re absolutely allowed to have an opinion! Take you’re own advice “just say you don’t like it and go.” No need to keep coming up with reasons like SFS when it’s clearly not true. I’ve always been a firm believer in “draw whatever you want” and “don’t give critiques when it isn’t asked for"

2: when I say just say you don’t like it and move on I don’t mean vague about it and post about it on social media where you have a large following and it becomes harmful I meant to yourself and I do do it! I don’t tell people I don’t like their art because it looks weird to me, I didn’t even say I don’t like Climbs art I actually made a whole post about how their art is good but it could be improved! I actually really don’t put artists down and the only reason I even mentioned a flaw in climbs art was because they were unnecessarily pointing it out in someone else’s. And I didn’t manipulate it I lined them out to where you can see because the poses are different but you can tell the face shapes are the same, that was it. And any messages I have sent have been off anon, I don’t need to hide because I’m not saying anything shameful and overtly rude.

You can’t say you’re for not giving critiques when they’re not asked for and then turn around and defend Climb about this cause that’s exactly what they did. I’m genuinely just upset that a young person is getting insulted like that from an adult. Their style is really good and creative and the way Climb went about it was unnecessary and harmful. A change of pace like that should be admired not dragged on.
