These are the characters you can expect me to post about on this blog!
This is Sorilyn! He's a large, sadistic forest spirit and self-appointed Judge of the Heart (not canon). He can read minds, but only surface level thoughts easily. Anything else he has to dig a bit for. He can also see through HIS birch trees, though it isn't a clear image, more of a dream; and fully possess someone with a long, black tongue he hides beneath his mask (face.) He rarely uses it though as the personality and ideas of whomever he possesses will bleed into his own for a time.
Sorilyn is prideful, vain, arrogant, and absolutely terrified of losing his sense of self. He hides his loneliness and insecurities behind sarcasm and snark.
Possible TWs: possession, psychological horror/mind tricks, mild body horror, violence.
This is Seloh Mossgrove. He is an arrogant scientist turned experiment by his own hubris.
Long story short, his mind was broken by a rival after experimenting on himself out of paranoia. That snap split his mind into "Seloh" - animal loving, careful, stubborn, intelligent; and "the Creature" - wild, feral, predatory, dangerous. That Creature can only override or influence Seloh when he feels a negative emotion, or it gets restless (usually from lack of stimulation).
He has a companion, Stella Hawthorne, who keeps him stable and grounds him. They trust each other deeply.
Possible TWs: body horror, medical abuse, self-experimentation, violence, depression/dissociation.
Vyrion is a Winter Pallagen. The eye on his chest displays any emotion he feels regardless of whether he wants it to or not. He's prideful and nonchalant, but is also paranoid and terrified of connection.
Deyla is a Summer Pallagen. She's a medic with a vast knowledge of plants and herbs. She is also my self-insert of sorts and has major anxiety and decision paralysis, until she has a task related to her passion: healing.
These two are Pallagens a subspecies of Protogens I created for my world, Palla. They look similar but have major differences. See this doc for more details or just ask me :3
Possible TWs: abuse/gaslighting, cultish organization.

For context, my aunt sent me some Cecropia moth cocoons from Nebraska (to Wisconsin) for me to raise and one finally hatched! I don't even think that is the right word! He's a pretty male, so, kind of pointless right now. I'm hoping the other cocoon is female so I can start a little colony of my own. If it isn't though, I'll have two pretty guys to keep and cherish until they die naturally. Then I'll probably pin or preserve them and cherish them forever :3 I'll keep y'all updated on the other!
MY MAN HAS A WIFE!! LET THEM BE FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY (I set them outside tonight, so if he cannot fulfil his purpose, perhaps I can snag her a back up.)

Description : Tall, roughly 1.9 meters. While somewhat humanoid, the beastβs mechanical side shows in its posture and the metallic box it has for a head (not unlike that of a CRT television). Its display shows a single white eyeβsimple but unsettling. Unguligrade legs, yet no true discernible hoof or toe. Subjectβs hands end in talons that appear long and sharp. It has a lengthy, whip-thin tail with a slight fracture at the end as well. Its entire body appears to be matte black, and it does not reflect light but rather appears to absorb it.
Important Notes : As of [REDACTED], do not interact with the subject. Its full cognitive abilities are unknown and potentially dangerous.Β
Chapter One : Murder
[H-0135 Entry 2.1 - Researcher: Dr. Kate]
This. This creature will be a joy to study. I have been advised not to release all the information I have about our beautiful subject and its creation, but I can say that it is and will be quite interesting.Β
For one, it can speak. Not like a parrot looping words it happened upon, however. 0135 is capable of full, intelligent speech. To my knowledge, it is the first of that sort! Besides that, it is biomechanical, a fairly new field of science here, but seeing 0135βs apparent consciousness, it will be a successful one.
Wellβ¦ only as long as 0135 stays compliant. With its height and talons, a security breach would beβ¦ devastating.Β
. . .
βOf course it-t-t was you.β Dr. Kate had just closed the door behind her when the tall, black creature spoke. The cell that contained him stood parallel to the entrance. She sighed and approached the glass.
βWho else would it be? Glad to see youβre awake.β Her voice was smooth and calm, as though she were speaking with an old friend. βHow are you feeling?β Her words carried a mock politeness that made H-0135βs tail lash.
βAlive. V-v-very much alive.β Visibly forcing his tail still, he lifted his head a little. The white eye, glowing against the black features, glared down at her. βYou?β
Kate flicked her hand, avoiding his gaze. βSo-so. Thinking up things to do with you, and what not.β She studied him from the corner of her eye. βYouβve changed, Michael, and not for the better.βΒ
H-0135 flexed his claws. βN-N-Not!?β A shudder coursed up through his lanky form, and he shifted his stance. βNot! Youβre jealous! I-I see the distance you place bet-t-tween you and me.β He tilted his head with a predatory gaze. Kate denied herself the slight stab of anxiety it induced. βYou wish you w-were smart enough t-t-to mimic a fraction of these results.β
βNo, I do not,β she stated. H-0135βs eye narrowed. βYouβve become a beast enslaved to your own arrogance. Even I would not stoop to that level of insecurity.βΒ
*Clk CRK*
H-0135 slammed his clawed hand against the glass. She jumped. He lowered his head and stared at Kate with understated malice. βYou t-t-trapped me out of fear. T-t-tame the beast before it bec-c-comes dangerous, I assume.β He held his voice just above a snarl. βSssssmart. But even you c-c-couldnβt get away with something asβ¦ vicious as thissss.β
Dr. Kate straightened her lab coat. A shadow of a smile hovered over her lips. βPerhaps. But then, you never left an alibi.β H-0135βs wire antennae flicked. He tensed as she continued. βAs far as anyone here knows, youβre missing or dead. No one would have believed you then, and no one will now. Look at yourself!β
H-0135 dropped his hand and straightened to his full height. β*Crrk*Β I do not c-care what others think-k-k of me. But you? I-I-I want you to know: I will find a way t-t-to escape your t-talons. And when I d-d-do? Your death will be n-n-n-nothing short of hhhhell.β
. . .
[H-0135 Entry 2.1 - Researcher: Dr. Kate Parnell]
Iβve had the thing for a good three days now and have not learned a single scrap of new information. It critiques me and does it well (I hate to admit). Do not request any further information; I have been instructed to share its origins with no one. Just note that 0135 is not the feral creature any of us are used to.
. . .
Dr. Kate clicked her pen repeatedly. She stared at the blank sheets on her clipboard. The subject himself slouched against the wall of his cell, studying his talons.Β
βAre you going t-t-toβ¦ do something?β He ventured.
βShut it,β she retorted, but looked up and met his gaze. βSoββ
βNo.β
βYou canβt justββ
βNo.β He tossed his head back. Something of a smirk flickered around the sharp edges of his eye. Kate ran her hand along the bridge of her nose.
βH-0135, Iβm tryingββ
H-0135βs tail smacked the wall once, cutting her off. βOh, weβre resort-t-ting to tags now! Fun.β
βSTOP IT!β She straightened her posture. βHow do you even see anything with that screen?β Tilting his head, he pointed to his face with a single claw.
βEye.β
βYou are absolutely exasperating today. That is not what I MEANT!β
βI know what you meant!β
The silence between them stretched for a few moments until Kate opened her mouth to speak. H-0135 spoke first. βBut Iβm n-n-not going to answerββ
βFINE! DONβT! Just tell me how far you can see.β Try as she might, Kate could not keep the hint of a plea out of her voice. H-0135βs wire antennas rose; he noticed.
His voice sank to a whisper. βI see y-y-your insecurities.β Then an odd clicking sound escaped his throat, and he resumed his uninterested lean against the wall. βHave you r-really never had a speak-k-king experiment before?β
She eyed the tall cabinet left of the cell. βThatβ¦ thatβs not relevant.β He huffed.
βPor supuesto que es relevante; r-r-refleja tu experiencia. Eres paranoic-ca.β
βSince when do you speak Spanish?!β
βSinceβ¦ always.β His antennae flicked with mild disinterest. βI swear; if you go sk-k-kulking about, hunting for my inform-mation, Iβllββ He paused and narrowed his eye, meeting her face to face with a dip of his head. βWhy the heck-ck do you want-t-t to know how far I c-can see?β
βI donβt skulk!β She hissed. H-0135 blinked, unconvinced. βAnd I have all of your information. Iβm trying to get some baseline info about you now, but you are making it increasingly difficult.β He cackled in what Dr. Kate could only assume was a laugh.
βMaybe,β he muttered, turning his body to face her fully, βinstead-d-d of asking your subject blatant questions, t-t-try testing it without its knowing.β He paused for a moment. Dramatic effect, she assumed. βYou could hav-v-ve made me look at you from the other side of the r-room, t-t-to which I would have responded exact-tly the same.β
The light flickered overhead; Kate sighed. βNone of that is useful information.β
βA-and?β
βFINE! Weβll do it your way!β She barked before backing up to the door across from the glass. βI assume you can see me?β
H-0135 tilted his head. βYeah,β he replied.
Kate clicked her pen, finally ready to write something in her notes. βSo you can see at least twenty feet?β He eyed the distance between them.
βThe roomβs fift-t-teen,β he stated. Annoyed, Kate adjusted her glasses and muttered a curse under her breath.
βAlrightβwait,β she paused and looked up at the beast, narrowing her eyes slightly. βHow do you know that?β
He tipped his screen back. βWell, y-you took fourteen st-t-teps back, and assuming your feet are smaller than a f-f-full foot, that would make the d-d-distance between this glassββ A sharp talon clicked off the clear wall. βand the dβd-door roughly equivalent to fifteen feet-t. Also, d-d-donβt we use SI measurements h-h-here?β His tail flicked in clear delight at her exasperated groan.
But she ignored his pointed arguments. βSo you can see roughly four and a half meters?β
βI said-d I could see you.β
βIs that a yes?β
βWhy are you pr-r-ressing so hard?β
βIβll take that as a yes,β she said dryly, scribbling the information down on her clipboard.Β
*Shrck*
H-0135 readjusted his body, his lanky arms crossed over his chest. βY-you are so concern-n-ned with how far I c-c-can see! I meanββ He flexed one of the talons he had settled on his forearm, almost as a warning. βAre there n-n-not more pressing questions?β
βKeep those down! I thought it would be nice to start simple.β H-0135βs wires clinked softly together. βHereβs a question for you: how do those antennas work? I know theyβre not just for show.β
βThese?!β A quick flick of the wires betrayed his excitement. βAh, th-th-these are nothing,β he said, tilting aside his screen in mock humility.
βFalse,β Kate stated without a single drop of patience.
βAh, ahah, no. IF they ser-r-rved a purpose I w-w-wouldnβt just t-tell you! QuizΓ‘s podr-r-rΓa. Puedo capt-tar frecuencias c-c-con ellos. Β‘Lo oigo t-todo!β He snickered.
Kate lost it. βTHAT IS NOT HELPFUL!β H-0135 laughed as he watched her storm out into the hall, slamming the door behind her.
. . .
[H-0135 Entry 2.2 - Researcher: Dr. Kate Parnell]
Iβm done with this creature. It has given me nothing of value to record, and what information it does give me, I cannot share (for reasons beyond my own). Iβm done with it. If I am to keep the thing alive, it might as well be on my termsβ¦
You know, I donβt care if itβs controversial, Iβm doing it. For science.
β
She paused for a moment, leaning back in her chair. I canβt write that in here. They mustnβt know ofβ¦ H-0135βs intelligence. Would raise too many questions, especially regardingβ¦ if they connected the dotsβ¦ It was minimal, but this would suffice. Yes. I didnβt spend all that time covering him for nothing.
. . .
It had been no longer than an hour since her last visit when the door clicked open again. H-0135 lashed his tail. That last βtest,β as she had called her mental probing, must have irked her more than he had thought. What could she possibly want from me? βBack-k-k already?β He hissed, narrowing his gaze as Dr. Kate approached the glass.
She glanced at him from the corner of her eye before stepping over to the cabinet. βYou are insufferable, 0135. Speak again and Iβll shoot you.β The dart gun she removed prevented any further comment he might have made. Carefully, she placed it on the counter running along the left wall and opened a cupboard overhead. H-0135 eyed the gun in tense silence. He knew what those were for. She wouldnβtβ¦ Would she?
βYou,β Kate started while inspecting its contents, βshould be grateful youβre still living.β One black vial was set next to the gun. H-0135βs antennas twitched. βAnd Iβll let you continue to liveβ¦ assuming you will cooperate.β Finally, she turned her gaze to the cell. βHave anything to say to that, 0135?β The subject remained silent. βGood.β
Kate pulled a small notebook and a pen from her coat. βThen letβs start with something small. Place your talons on the glass; I want to see them clearly.β With a pointed *click clickβ¦ click,* H-0135 obeyed, positioning his claws at her eye-level. Tense rage glowed behind his white eye.
βI c-c-could spear y-you through with these,β he growled under his breath. Kate rolled her eyes and added a few notes to her paper.
βThanks for that mental image,β she muttered in reply, βbut are you strong enough?β The subjectβs eye narrowed. βEven claws sharp as knives are only as powerful as the bearer.β Kate let herself smile when he started lashing his tailβexactly as sheβd expected.
His antennae clicked together once before he spoke. βAgain, do you ask-k-k a tiger how long it-ts fangs are? Or do you g-g-give it a toy and measure the punct-t-tures? Really, Kate. Y-y-youβre twice my age, yet-t-t somehow half as smart-t. Interesting.β
A pointed click signaled H-0135βs disappointment in her response, but he obeyed. βI trust you less than a rabid bear; donβt push your already straining boundaries. Comply, and perhaps you can lessen the strain. So, will you or will you not?β He responded only with a low growl while avoiding her eyes and letting his hand drop to his side.
βFine. I suppose Iβll just have to test it.β H-0135βs eye followed her movements as she set her claw measurements on the counter next to the dart gun and pulled a clipboard with a blank sheet from a drawer below it. βFirstβ¦β She planted herself in front of his cell. βHow much do you stillβ¦ know? Our previous data has not been all that useful or precise.β
βI r-r-remember everything, Kate.β He leaned back, eye narrowed to a near slit. βIf y-y-you must know, I c-can name every single ex-x-xperiment youβve e-ever tort-t-tured and broken. From 07 t-to meβ¦ whatβ¦ 135? Youβve had-d-d over a hundred specimens a-a-and still lack a b-b-basic method? How pathetic. Y-Y-You canβt just break n-n-nature for fun, you n-n-need a reason, a p-p-purpose, something t-to learn or studyβ¦ which m-m-makes me wonder, wh-what are y-y-you hoping t-to learn fr-fr-from me?β βFrom you? Or through you.β He twitched. βMichael, you are in no position to teach anyone anything. You never were, for that matter, and you certainly canβt be now. Yetβ¦ how clever you wereβ¦ you built a monster and became it perfectly. And what did you hope to learn?β She said with a sly smile.
βIβnnnghh-snk.β The dark screen flickered white for a second. βP-P-Proper and efficient d-d-defense, ag-gility, mastery ov-v-ver nature itselfβ¦β H-0135βs tail jerked before he calmed and stared at her straight in the eye.. βOh, the t-t-talons and tail a-a-are just a d-delightful side effect. Something to use ag-g-gainst those who g-get in my way. For ex-exampleββ Kate cut him off. βI donβt care, beast. Iβve read through your smug little self-documentation.β She marked something off her sheet before exchanging it for the black bottle. With suspicion, H-0135 watched her scan the label.
βI spent m-months of p-p-pain on thatβ¦β his voice trailed when he saw her take a syringe from a drawer and pull some of the liquid into it. βYou wouldnβt.β She slipped something into the gun with a sharp click. βItβs evident that your currentβ¦ state will hinder any further research from you.β His eye widened with the realization of what she was about to do. She slid back the little door in the glass and leveled the point to his shoulder. βAll you need to do now,β TIck βis hold still.β
A click. H-0135 screamed. A wordless sound of pain, not physical, mental. Each moment, each memoryβleaves, sunlight, wind ruffling his dark hairβbled from his mind in a stream. He threw himself to the ground, writhing.
βYOUβRE A C-COWARD!β Kate stood watching with disinterest. βA DOWN-RIGHT COWARD!β He broke off into another shriek. Kate winced at the noise. β*AAASHHHZZK* YOU FEARED ME ENOUGH TO k-k-KILL ME!β He froze. His eye blinked, confused. βT-t-to kill me?! AAAAIIIIIββ Sudden blackout. H-0135 collapsed and went still, screen blank. Dr. Kate stared at the pathetic black shape that had once been her rival. Then she turned and began packing her things away.
She paused for a moment, hand on the door, and glanced over her shoulder before leaving. βAt least I wasnβt coward enough to turn myself into a monster.β
Scritch is an eight-legged otter, Seloh is my oc. There's art of him on my blog. This is just a little thing I wrote with them.
He watched Scritch running in circles, leaping at times to try and catch the glowing bugs in his paws. Seloh tilted his head. This creature, this... anomaly, born out of pain and panic... loved. It loved with such innocence. No one could ever know of its terrible past by simply watching.
Seloh took a step forward. Scritch looked up, his black eyes wide with the wonder of the night. He chirped a sound of meaningless happiness, and Seloh smiled.
"I-i-is that a challenge?" He crouched down beside the little otter. Scritch flopped on his side, letting Seloh pet his belly.
Slowly, Seloh tipped his screen to the sky. He tracked the flashing insects for a second before raising a hand slowly. Quick as lightning, his talons clasped around one of the bugs. Scritch churred happily as Seloh settled himself in the grass. Scritch wiggled upright and pressed his damp nose to Seloh's closed hand.
"R-ready?" Carefully, he opened his talon. The firefly sat there for a moment on his dark palm before taking flight and rejoining the buzz of insects above them. Scritch lifted his little front paws in excitement. Seloh chuckled. "You lik-k-ke that?"
It wasnβt until the sun began to rise that Seloh carried the sleeping Scritch back to his room. He placed the otter gently at the head of his own bed, then took out the sketches heβd made that night: Scritch leaping after fireflies, the forest fading to a dark nothing beyond the stone walls, a map of all the constellations he could name since beforeβ¦ Seloh let his antennae fall.
But it didnβt matter now. He was healing, whole, and loved. It was more than he ever deserved, and he knew it.
