In the botanical garden where Maude works, she was calmly watering the plants. She enjoyed her work: it gave her a modicum of peace. However, her work was interrupted by a colleague.
"Maude, that white haired guy came to you, again." Maude sighed slightly annoyed upon hearing that Dante had come to her work once again. Maude asked her coworker to finish watering the plants, which she agreed to, and Maude went to see Dante.
Maude and Dante met in an orphanage as children. She remembered Dante being sent there after losing his mother and twin brother. As a child, Dante could be impulsive, energetic, and fond of showing off. He was quite... different from other children. Eventually, they were separated and reunited several years later at the age of 18. It was then that she learned that Dante was half-demon. But despite this, she was happy to have her friend back.
When Dante saw her, he immediately had this specific smile on his face that made his enemies get fed up with him and girls fall in love on the spot.
"There's my beloved botanist! So I have to see your colleague instead of you? I'm hurt." he replied dramatically, placing his large hand on his broad, clothed chest.
"Cut it out, cowboy." Maude replied, rolling her eyes at his words. "What do you want?"
"Well, someone's being specific here~. So yeah, there are no demons to kill and I thought I'd visit my dear best friend."
"Mhm, visit, huh? And that's all?" Maude looked at him meaningfully, sensing that Dante had something more in mind than a simple visit to her work.
"Well... and maybe I wanted us to go somewhere together?" Maude sighed at his supposedly innocent words.
"Dante, I'm at work. I can't get away from this."
"Oh, come on! I promise I'll walk you back to work. Scout's word!"
"Dante, you were never a Scout."
"Okay, so... Word of the demon hunter!"
Maude looked at him silently for a moment, and Dante started making puppy dog eyes. She couldn't resist him. Maybe it was because she'd begun to feel something more for him than just friendship. It's true that Dante had always been kind to her, flirting occasionally, and being close to her. But she didn't know if Dante could feel something more for her. So for now they are just best friends.
"Ehh... Fine. You're lucky I'm on my lunch break right now. So we can go somewhere to eat together. Happy now, cowboy?"
"Yeah! Thank you, Maude! You're the best!" he hugged her happily like a puppy who had just gotten his favorite treat, to which Maude blushed slightly but returned the hug. After a moment she moved away from him and went to get her things.
"Knowing you, you probably don't have money to pay for yourself again?" At her words, Dante just rubbed the back of his head, slightly embarrassed.
"Well... Yeah, sorry. I confess. But I promise I'll pay you back." Maude laughed softly at his words and left when he opened the door for her like a gentleman. God, he's impossible. But it's good that Dante is in her life again.
