the backrooms movie is enjoyable if you see it as a standalone psychological horror experience rather than a direct adaptation of existing lore, just go into it without bringing in expectations from all the internet lore. a lot of people go in already attached to a very specific interpretation like levels and entities, and then got disappointed when kane didn’t replicate that exactly. there’s endless ways he could’ve went about this, so no matter what he did with it, people would’ve been disappointed I fear.

now I will say, I was very much hoping for more scenes that were shot like his found footage videos on youtube. was kinda sad to see only a couple of scenes were shot in that sort of format, but making a movie about backrooms is sooo much pressure and that was a huge leap of faith for someone so new to the film industry to take on something that big, I applaud him so much for that
