The Bateditorial and pro Dickbabs writers hate Dick with non-white/POC women.
it's really suspicious i can't help but think there's more to this than just preference like their actions makes you think that it's also because it's racially motivated. Notice the way they always mistreat, undermine and ignore poc women to try to make Babs ( who is a white woman) look better for Dick??
Dick and Kory (an immigrant and someone who's been a slave)
Their were originally written to be one of true love. Despite what batwriters think Dick did truly love Kory, I can't count how many times he's said how much he loves Kory and how he is afraid of losing her and Kory was the one who helped him become Nightwing and not be an emotionally constipated Batman 2.0. Without Dickkory, there would be no Nightwing that's how important and powerful their love is.
But after the Bateditorial took him back from the Titans office they suddenly had Dick say out of nowhere that his relationship with Kory was wrong and that it was Barbara above any other woman.
(note this retcon is also dumb and ignorant because tf dick was not this young when he first met Kory! He was freaking 18 years old, already an adult when he and kory first met in NTT confirmed by marv wolfman in an interview. smh)
Not only that they also retconned their history and said Dick cheated on Kory with Babs the night before their wedding even tho that never happened in New Titans just to show that Babs is his one true love and that he only wanted to marry Kory for sex which is very demeaning and degrading because this is how they want to portray an immigrant and a slave
someone who is just a meaningless sexual object temporary fling amusement to Dick until he finally gets together with the white woman.
Dick and Helena (a black woman)
They also degraded Helena, they made a comic panel where they had a character say to her face say that Barbara (who is a white woman ) is much prettier than her. Not only that they also said Babs is the only woman Dick truly loved and they put this out during the time Dick and Helena are having a thing in the Agent Grayson book which makes the timing really petty and intentional. They treated a Black woman like she's just some garbage who is not appealing or desirable all because they think that the white woman is more attractive.
Dick with Bea (also a black woman who is a Black rights activist)
Dick loved Bea, he was serious with her. He told Alfred he wanted to build a life with her, he even asked why Bruce and Barbara can't understand that.
Then out of nowhere they broke them up so he can be with Babs again. They had Dick break up with Bea in Nightwing #76 and then 2 issues later Tom Taylor announced he's going to rekindle his old romance with Babs starting from #78. I find this very disrespectful to Bea because he just broke up with her and Dick was still even heartbroken about but now he's kissing and flirting with babs, the Bateditorial and Tom Taylor should have atleast let Dick mourn for losing Bea and have him stay single for a long time first before trying to make him date someone else again, it takes time to move on from a breakup especially from someone you did truly love but no he has to jump back straight to the white woman. In just two issues they managed to make him move on from the black activist and be lovey dovey to the white woman. They treated a black activist like Bea as just someone Dick didn't take seriously like she's just a fling Dick can forget and move on so easily.
Other poc women that where also treated as just temporarily flings and placeholders for Dickbabs are Shawn who is an Asian woman and Bridget Clancy who is another black woman.
I really don't like Dickbabs, i don't like the way it was built on retcons at the other women's expense, i don't like how they always feel the need to use, undermine and ignore the other women in dick's life to try to make barbara look like the best woman for him. I have never seen dickkory, dickhelena, dickbea and other nightwing ships saying or doing anything bad to barbara and her relationship to justify their existence. Dickbabs is the only one who does that. It's the only ship who tries to be petty. This ship feels fake, it feels superficial, it feels mandated, it feels malicious, it feels racist. They treat poc women like garbage and treat the white woman as his best superior love interest. They literally had Dick say a white woman like Babs "is above the others." It's pretty obvious Babs is a glorified white love interest. It's the worst Nightwing ship. All the awful things they did to kory and the other poc women will forever not endear me to this retcon ship. I really wish there's someone who is in a higher power in DC who is brave enough to call out this ship's BS but the truth is nobody inside that company gives af about POC love interests. They only care about money and their bigotry instead of writing good stories.
