If prairies dream, they must at some time wake And stir the coverlet, lift up the head To ask, is day advanced or dawn still red? I saw her so, the prairie, saw her take Her misty hair and pile it, saw her break The bread of wonder at life's loveliness, Lift up her delft-blue ware with a caress For its balsamic beauty; saw her shake The breakfast cloth of linen-colored oats, Then go about her task of feeding all Her brood of creatures with their waiting throats To which she brings a wine that does not pall; And then, at eventime, I saw her bend And kneel, thankful of heart, at the day's end.

Choveu tanto sobre o teu peito que as flores não podem estar vivas e os passos perderam a força de buscar estradas antigas.

Em muita noite houve esperanças abrindo as asas sobre as ondas. Mas o vento era tão terrível! Mas as águas eram tão longas!

Pode ser que o sol se levante sobre as tuas mãos sem vontade e encontres as coisas perdidas na sombra em que as abandonaste.

Mas quem virá com as mãos brilhantes trazendo o seu beijo e o teu nome, para que saibas que és tu mesmo, e reconheças o teu sonho?

A primavera foi tão clara que se viram novas estrelas, e soaram no cristal dos mares lábios azuis de outras sereias.

Vieram, por ti, músicas límpidas, trançando sons de ouro e de seda. Mas teus ouvidos noutro mundo desalteravam sua sede.

Cresceram prados ondulantes e o céu desenhou novos sonhos, e houve muitas alegorias navegando entre Deus e os homens.

Mas tu estavas de olhos fechados prendendo o tempo em teu sorriso. E em tua vida a primavera não pôde achar nenhum motivo…
