In the underworld kingdom, where demons fight for survival against the abyssal monsters, you are just an Oracle. In the distant past the Oracles were at the top of the demonic hierarchy, but those golden days are long gone. You did what you were most afraid to do and now sit under arrest in the royal palace.
When the Abyss sends you a vision of a terrible disaster that will happen in the future, you make an inevitable βdealβ with the Sovereign to try to change the future and improve your abilities, not only to become stronger and learn more about the coming disaster, but also in an attempt to achieve mind stability.Β

Vezriel seems a perfect ruler: theyβre smart, calm, patient, know moderation, and always put demonsβ well-being first. But youβre not so naive as to think this is their real faceβmany secrets lurk under the golden shell of the nobility. You never thought of meeting them in the past, but now spending some time with them is inevitable. Perhaps you will find out what lies beneath their mask?
They have dark brown skin, long curly black hair, and black eyes with pale white flecks. Tall and of strong build, Vezriel cuts a robust but elegant figure, usually dressed in beautiful robes.
β¨ Osara / Osaron, The Heir (f / m)
Vezrielβs only child and heir, O is their Chief Counselor, and they have a consistently good reputation. Their character reminds of their parent, though O is much more cold and reticent. Nothing seems to touch or shake their emotions, despite the known long list of ex-lovers. You donβt need their attention, but the circumstances have put you right under it. What will you make of this opportunity?
They have warm brown skin, long wavy black hair, and silver, almost white eyes. O is tall and strong, their expression impassive most of the time, which makes them rather intimidating and unapproachable to some demons.
β¨ Lazarus / Lazaris, the General (m / f)
L rose from the bottom of the ladder and made a name for themselves, though judging by old rumors, their clean background wasnβt always so clean. Theyβre charismatic and popular but keep others at a distanceβeveryone except their friendsβ¦ and you. L treats you especially well, but youβre not foolish enough to blindly play their game. What do they want from you?
They have beige skin, short/medium-length wavy blond hair, and golden eyes. Many small and big scars can be seen on their hands. L is tall and has a strong build. Despite their high station, they seem friendly and laid-back.
β¨ Ashmedai, the Royal Healer (f / m)
Ashmedai was sent to observe your condition after the incident and to help you with mind stability if needed. They performed their duties without showing any displeasure or impatience no matter how you behaved. Ash is secretive and reserved, and you guess their restrained temper is connected to the dark rumors surrounding them. Will they open up to you?
They have pale skin, long straight black hair, and bright red eyes. A large scar runs on the left side of their face, from their forehead along their eye and to their chin. Ash is tall and slender.
β¨ Azarias / Azaria, the Royal Musician (m / f)
Ashβs younger sibling, Az somewhat resembles them in appearance, but their characters couldnβt be more different. Az is bold, humorous, and fickle. They know everyoneβand everything about everyoneβand enjoy a special favor from the Sovereign, which has allowed them to retain their place in the royal palace for many years. Youβre concerned about their peculiar attention to you because thereβs no reason for itβyou two have never met before. Orβ¦ is there a reason after all?
They have pale skin, long white hair, and black eyes with narrow silver pupils. A tattoo of a snake with flowers curves around their neck. Az is tall and lean.

There's been something on my mind for a while now...Is there no scenario in which Ash would take the reigns? I've read some previous asks and you always mention that the Oracle would be the one who needs to do something because even if they are horny, Ash would be too shy to do anything. But I crave to see my baby girl being needy and just "please let's do it I need it so much π₯Ί"
I feel like I answered this before... Maybe I thought I did and I forgot to actually do it, lol. Sorry!! π
There are scenarios where they would be more forward or be the one controlling the situation. And it's more likely to happen with a reserved Oracle. Don't forget, they kissed the Oracle first. And still waters run deep.
As buff as you want them to be. Vez, Os, and Laz are all very physically active, so they have strong builds and would be on top of the list for the buffiest characters (Vez is tied with Laz -> Os). Ash and Az are less so; they're physically active too but not to the degree of those three, so they have more lean builds.
This month I finished that one big scene (I moved several parts from it to the end of the chapter) and the next plot scene. And now I'm moving onto working on the last scene for the chapter!
It's one scene only on paper; I have to write a lot of variations because each route has different scenes that heavily depend on whether you're playing on a romantic/platonic path, high/low sanity, the [redacted 1/2] state, etc. I also plan to write NSFW for some of the characters, so it will add more branches I need to account for π€ But the end is close! At least closer than it was before, lol.
I just checked the wordcount, and the chapter already sits at 100K π Wish me luck with editing it in the near future...

Some notes about the author
First of all, I want to apologize for the delay. I hate not meeting deadlines, but I'm pretty happy I managed to keep a good editing rhythm even when life was⦠lifeing.
Getting sick, writing a thesis, being an intern... add all of that to a perfectionist who spends hours agonizing over a single paragraph, and you get a delayed passion project π
Some notes about the story
In some parts, this chapter is heavier on descriptions than the rest of the story will be, so some scenes might have fewer choices than usual.
And yes, you read it right; this is the full chapter one. I decided to release the whole of chapter one in one go and push the RO reunions to chapter two instead.

This is honestly fascinating, honestly when I think of the tittle, The Abyssal Song, all I can think about is some unexplained cocophony of sounds from nowhere and everywhere, eldrich, old, terrifying, undiscribable, maddening... beautiful
(Excuse me I love cosmic horror and thinking of this "song" and something otherworldly just brings me joy)

Hi! I had a wild (or maybe not) thought. So, right now Oracle's priority is to find out how to make abyssal monsters obey them, so I've been thinking about it for some time. While doing so, I thought about this IF's title. It also was kind of a mystery to me, cause "abyssal"'s obvious to what it refers to, but what about "song"? So after combining these two thoughts I was like "Oh! Is the singing or music a way to control abyssal monters?" I mean, I know I'll probably only find the answer in the new chapter, but I still wanted to share this with somebody, cause it's been eating me inside for a while π

Low/high fantasy and romance for reading and writing. Detective and historical for reading.

Found family (the kind that kills for each other, none of that tepid nonsense where they're more like colleagues).
5. If you could, what world building or story would you love to have written yourself?
I really like the plot + lore and how it's delivered in Where Winds Meet (game), and I've been gnawing at my walls for a while now wishing I could plot something as intricate. That's why I'm still intensely marinating the plot of my next project.
6. Your favorite line (or three) that you've written?
I really have no idea. I might like something at one moment, but I'd forget about it soon enough, so I have nothing to put here πβοΈ
7. Favorite medium to experience a story? (Book, IF, video game, movie, etc)
Books, games, VNs, and IF. I've loved reading since I was a kid, and I've played VNs since I was ~12 (mostly Japanese, even untranslated ones, lol) and still play a lot of them. I barely watch movies because ADHD (you know if you know).
8. Favorite character versus your favorite character to write: who would win?
In a fight to death? Selene would win, naturally.
9. What story keeps inspiring you to keep writing?
No such thing. I just love writing. I've been doing it for so long, even through my worst years, that I don't know how to live without it anymore. It sounds β¨extraβ¨, but it is an integral part of my life. I don't need inspiration for it.
10. Random fun fact about you, your writing, your interests
I've recently decided to get back into drawing. I actually drew a lot as a kid before I started writing. But I'll keep it as a light hobby; for the sake of my nerves, I shouldn't have another hobby that I'm insane about, lol.

They slowly raise their hand, and you track its motion. Their finger presses against the top of your chest. They trail it lower, drawing a line in the middle of your torso like they are estimating where they will cut you open to rip your heart out.
βSilent?β They lean down, shifting their hands onto the railing on either side of you. Their breath ghosts over your lips. βShould I continue this game then?β

I like my first runs of ifs to be me put in the shoes of the MC. So how'd I react in the given situation. Typically it characterizes my MC and mellow, impatient, kind, and passive. The same for this if. But on Laz's route it doesn't matter if youre sweet bby angel youre just gonna be a chaotic rabid menace and honestly that fits my personality more.
Haha yeah, the Oracle isn't a blank character, they have a semi-set personality regardless of your route. I'm glad you're enjoying it anyway! π I know this isn't for everyone.
I wish people stopped acting like a blank MC is the default and correct MC for an interactive story. I had people (not you, anon) write to me like this is some sort of mistake, as if I haven't been writing the Oracle like that for several hundred thousand words. I wish I didn't try to make the MC palatable from the beginning and just made them as unhinged as I wanted, lol...
