This blog is generally rated 16+. There will be suggestive talk and art from time to time, though images will be tagged properly and anything that goes above the range of "playfully risque" will be marked as such. I do draw a lot of nonsexual nudity, though. There's lots of boobs here. I'll tag anything with a "partial nudity" tag but that's about it. hashtag free the nipple or whatever.
PLEASE NOTE: I believe any topic is capable of being explored in fiction, even ones deemed "problematic." Yes, even that one you're thinking of. However, I also believe that different topics deserve different levels of respect when depicting them, and that depictions cannot be shielded from critique due to the nature of it being fictional. If you claim to be "proship" or hold the belief that "fiction doesn't effect reality" or whatever, I do not care for you. I will block freely if you don't first.
This story is a somber love letter to the complexities of people and their relationships, however ugly it gets, and I don't care for the idea of it being interpreted under the lens of indulgence in difficult topics just for the shock value of it being ~ problematic ~
I'm always open to conversations about respectfully engaging in difficult topics. I hope this can be understood by anyone engaging with my work :)

input quastion for those who might be knowledgeable: Ive got all of chapter 1 thumbnailed atm, need to move onto sketching. I've started loosely sketching the first two pages and am thinking about working on those to completion to sort of get a feel for the full sketch -> paneling -> line -> color process. do we think this sounds like the correct approach to take. yes or no or bald.

very dad typa stuff, but on more universal dad rock level. my dad listens to the pixies and the talking heads, so my experiences aren't universal, but im tryin my best here as a guy who realllly fucks with dad rock. like a lot. i felt like this was a very decent range from base hard rock into metal, with megadeth leading into some very classic metal thats good as a first intro as well as the classic ac/dc+ guns and roses one-two, ending aerosmith probably being the stuff that crank would play if she had control of the aux. shit rules! I do think if you introduced to primus it'd Do Things To Her (good or bad depending)
GER
As a frequenter of the hyper-pop genre and its works, alongside being a vocaloid enjoyer as well, i wanted to find stuff that i appreciate on a vast spectrum from noise level to the type of beat, as well as the queen of transgender vocaloid music, JAMIE PAIGEEE as this is probably my favorite album of hers. that being said transgenderism and queer spaces are really important in hyperpop and electronic music spaces, so some healthy skoches of that are good to have. something id like to imagine ger would really like this genre thats trying to say something important as well. and then theres 100 gecs.
ROSIE
my local jazz radio station is a real treat for playing lots of varieties of american jazz but! also a lot of latin jazz and bolero. they don't ever show the song names. or artist names. so i had to do everything by ear. i think Rosie is a big sucker for old 50s style bolero, lots of very beat heavy listening from romántico and el corneta but also some melancholy nostalgia from virginia lopez of course. and i do think while she enjoys old stuff and pledges to it she enjoys the late 90s style salsa too. its REALLY hard not to enjoy some celia cruz, she is NAWTT immune.

things I am learning while drafting this damn comic:
-I would put gaps in the script that just says <dialogue goes here> and assume I could figure it out on the fly. I cannot. I need to have at least a basic dialogue written out. It can change in the thumbnailing but it GOTTA be there
-I keep trying to make the first panel of every page an establishing shot and it’s gunkin up my compositions. Workin on dat
-I am so scared to have to start drawing action scenes oh my hod. Guy who’s never made a comic before voice what if it was a fighting comic < booboo the fool
-my projected chapter 1 was TOO DAMN LONG . The actual chapter 1 is gonna be taken from the first third of what I had written down initially . Break er up.

what was the thought process behind crank's design and mask/head specifically? :0c
ive mentioned it before, but originally I designed Crank just because I really liked masked characters! Way back when she was first conceptualized it was actually a really big mascot head that she wore...
I had always been adamant that I didn't really want to give Crank any sort of face reveal. i don't like when masked characters get face reveals its almost never awesome or cool. For the longest time i didn't really do anything with this other than "im not gonna show her face"... but eventually when I landed on "well what if she just doesn't have a head," it caused a neat spiral of events.
because like... Crank not having a face to reveal. Crank having this very cutesy aesthetic to the bear head. These are both things I initially did just because i Wanted To and it Looked Cool. But as the writing of SO BELOW got more focused, I actually had to work backwards from her design in a way that I don't usually have to. There's a lot of questions that need to be answered!
For a while Crank was just a cool stoic butch because i like cool stoic butches, but the questions posed by the Implications of her design have really helped me iron her out into a more complex character over time. What does it mean to be a character who is so reserved, but looks so... out there? Who doesn't really attempt to cover up? What are more non-traditional ways to showcase a character with body image issues. What does it mean that she's never tried to change out the pink heart look on her new face.
