Louis turned around, smiling at the newcomer. He didn't recognise them as a town member from when he was around, but they seemed supernatural in some way, shape, or form.
"Hello!"
Yes… definitely a Vampire. He seemed cheerful though… kind.
“Hi. I haven’t seen you around town before… it’s good to see a new and friendly face.”
"I just came back."
He smiled, tilting his head slightly and folding his hands behind his back politely.
"I've been... away for a while. What can I call you, stranger?"
A previous resident? Visitor? Was he from before Owen’s time?
“I’m Water. What can I call you?”
"Louis!"
He smiled, bowing slightly.
"Louis Blanchet. Old Mayor of Oakhurst."
The smile Water had on their face tightened just the slightest bit.
“…you’re supposed to be dead.”
So was Legundo… but Water knew that death wasn’t the end. Not if someone was desperate enough.
"I was brought back. I have no idea how, but I was revived."
His smile was careful. Polite. Be polite. Nobody deserved initial hatred. He was a good man.
“…interesting. You don’t know who? Strange… Well, those aren’t the weirdest circumstances I’ve heard of. Welcome back to Oakhurst… things have…definitely changed, I’d assume.”
They shrug, trying to shove off the fact that this was likely the Louis that Owen always talked about…
"I can tell, I can tell."
He looked around, shoulders dropping. Holding up a professional persona was easy, but not when he was tired, in so much pain, and was so incredibly hungry.
"Is my beloved still around?"
“…Owen?”
How were they about to tell him that he died because he was tired of living?
"Owen, yes!"
He smiled. Surely he was safe. Surely he was fine...
“…I haven’t seen him recently… but he is around… he’s a recluse, as I’m sure you know.”
Maybe.
"He always was."
Louis' smile softened. He missed his fiancé.
"I hope he's safe."
“He probably is.”
"He was a good man."
“…was?”
"Is, was. They're the same to a vampire."
He looked around for a place to sit, the constant standing weighing on his bones.
"He's always been a good man."
“…you think that? Do you… know what he did after your death?”
"...2799. All my town."
He simply moved to lean against a tree, pain rocketing through his legs the more he stood unaided.
"Do you know how long it takes a vampire to burn? I watched him avenge me as I was clinging on to life. I felt him cradle me as he thought I had died. And I forgive him."
“…you forgive him. And the things he’s done since?”
"what has he done?"
“Facilitated the unwilling turning of at least two people. Murdered a two day old fledgling in cold blood. Violently turned another human for no other reason than he reminded him of you, and that he thought he was a monster.”
Water’s loose hand tightened into a fist at the last in the list. That person or even clearly meant a lot to them.
"oh..."
Owen certainly... lost himself.
"Grief and a lack of a sire can do wild things to a fledgling... what came of the human he turned? Is he okay?"
“…much like you, he is. Dead, yet somehow back… he could be better, but he’s here.”
They turn away a little from Louis.
“Forgive me for any judgment I have on your lover. The one he turned is a close friend to me, chosen family.”
"I forgive you. I hope you know he had a hard life as a human and his turning, though he wanted it and had let me do it, ended in blood and fire."
He shuddered slightly.
“And my friends ended in terror and sacrifice. He never wanted eternity… he never wanted… a full mortal life either… this just made it worse and drove him to… drastic measures.”
Louis' eyebrows furrowed.
"How drastic? Is he safe? Is he... sane?"
“…like I said, he was revived. Safe, so long as you give him no reason to dislike you. Sane… mostly. A great feat for coming back from purgatory…”
"...I've heard horror stories of that place." He shuddered slightly. Souls who'd been through torment only to come up in heaven, shaking, sobbing, crying.
He'd spent a few days there.
“…I never asked, and I don’t plan on it. I just… wanna do my best for him, do what I can. Maybe, he can come back to the doctor I knew him as when I met him, but even if not, I’ll still be his friend.”
"Make sure he's safe. Looked after. Validated. I've helped people after purgatory. It's... a lot for them."
“Of that, I’m sure. He’s been ok… a mercy that he hasn’t found Owen himself. I can only imagine that ending in blood… even if vampires can’t die from anything other than stakes or fire.”

He stepped back slightly, head bowed.
"I should be sorry- I used to call most my child when I was a mayor- I didn't think."
”No, no, don’t be- I’m just… sensitive, I guess, would be the word.”
"That's not a bad thing."

"Water. You are not a bad person. Being sensitive is not a bad thing."

"So don't beat yourself up for it."

How sad that was to say. Once, he'd had a large house that homed those who couldn't afford their own home as he got them set up with enough room to house the whole town if it came to it.
Now he had nothing.
“Most of the town’s residents have left, so there should be plenty of vacancy. The only ones left, really, are myself, my sister, my Dad, and Cleo and Pearl—two vampires who live up at the castle after Goldsmith and his fledglings moved out.”
"Scott woke up?"
“Yeah. The humans tripping the beacons apparently affected his sleep spell. You knew him?”
"Knew him?" He chuckled slightly. "He's my fledgling."
Water nearly choked on air.
“He’s WHAT?!”
"Mhm! My fledgling. He was imprisoned against his will but I got revenge for trapping my lover and fledgling."
“…so that spell was cast by some sort of mage? And they trapped Owen too?”
They must admit, they were intrigued by this new story they were hearing… a part of Oakhurst’s past that they had never thought of before.
"No, this was before Owen's time. They only trapped Scott."
“…I see.”
"is there an issue with that?"
“No, simply…. Unexpected. I’ll have you know that a certain demon has recently caught his eye… so you might have competition now.”
"I'm sure there's enough room for both of us."
“I don’t exactly know where they went… across the ocean, I heard from one of his fledglings. I’m sure you can find them.”
"Hopefully. I hope he missed me."
“Perhaps he has.”

He sighed inwardly, adjusting how he stood. Owie.
”…are you alright? You’re shifting around a bunch.”
"Joints... don't really like being moving i guess."
“…does it change if you’re a bat? I’ve found that pains go away if the joints are smaller or don’t exist at all in a different body.”
"It might do actually..." he hummed
“Do as you wish, flying would be much easier than walking. Usually always is for a decent amount of distance.”
"I haven't been a bat in so long."
”in that case, are you sure you can fly?”
"Two hundred years or so can't change so much."
”Try it then. I’ll be here to catch you.”
"Alright."
He concentrated himself, eyes squeezing shut. He turned on his heel, poofing into a bat that flopped down onto the ground.
”Very graceful.”
"Shut up." he squeaked, but didn't seem annoyed.
“Never.” They crouched down to see him better.
He huffed, rolling his red eyes playfully.
“Why is it that all vampires are so cute when they are bats?”
"Because we're just silly little guys at heart."
“…yeah, sure.”
"Are you saying I'm not a silly little guy?"

"Is someone there?"
Louis knocked on the door of the castle awkwardly, glancing around nervously. He assumed Scott would be there and he wanted to see his fledgling again, as a sire would.

Scott wasn't expecting so many knocks when he came to the castle for vacation this year, but then again they never stopped getting knocks when he lived here full time. Scott opened the door and his dead heart nearly stopped, eyes wide and taking a sharp breath in at seeing who it was before him. Someone he truly thought he would never see again, someone he believed was dead.
"L.. Lou?"
"Scott?"
Louis' voice was shaky and almost scared. He hadn't seen Scott in so long... he'd missed him. Missed his smile. His comfort. His love.
Scott had never seen him stage 3 before, he realised. The white braid down his back would probably startle the other man.
"You.."
His own voice was shaky as he stared at the man, looking him up and down. After decades, it was hard to believe he was really here. He looked.. different. Good, but different. He never expected to see Louis at level 3, given how he was, but it was understandable after all this time.
"Lou.. is that really you?" He asked, tentatively taking a step towards him.
"It is, Mon cheri." He reached out his hand for Scott. The other man looked as beautiful as the day he lost him. Same sparkle in his eyes. Same comforting voice.
Same Scott.
Scott just stared in shock for a moment before he ran into Louis's arms, wrapping his arms around him and burying his face into his shoulder. He thought he'd never hear those pet names from him again.
"Lou.. you're here, you're alive, I thought.. oh Lou."
Louis chuckled slightly, but it was a sound that held so much pain and loss and grief. He held onto Scott, stroking his hair and holding him close.
"I'm back, my love. I'm back."
"What happened? Where have you been all this time?" He asked, voice both pained and in awe as he kept himself close. Tucked into Louis's shoulder like his sire would keep him safe. He didnt want to cry, not in front of him, but he felt he might.
Louis pressed a kiss to Scott's head, shoulders relaxing as he let himself know that he was safe.
"About 400 years after you fell asleep... they killed me. I was dead. I was in heaven."
Louis was in the woods again. He liked the woods. The woods were nice. Comforting. Not too loud around him.
He sensed the presence of some other being around him and looked up, looking around to see who was there.
"Hello?"

C!Louis was sitting in a tree, reading a book when he heard a voice. It was strangely similar to his own, but he didn't question it. He looked down and saw someone walking through the forest.
"Oh, hello! I'm up here!"
Louis looked up, making eye contact with the other and smiling, waving slightly. He didn't question why they were in a tree; his Owen had liked tree climbing. He just assumed they were the same.

He smiled, tilting his head slightly and folding his hands behind his back politely.

Louis had hoped, almost against hope itself, that Abolish would still be around. The butler had served Scott well and, whenever he went to visit his fledglings tomb, he was always there.
Then Louis vanished for 200 years. Then he came back.
It made no sense, he knew that, but surely Abolish was still around and... and maybe they could talk? Catch up like old times.

And by some miracle, he was still around. Still a human, but clearly a cursed one. How he was cursed he wasn’t aware, but perhaps it was his punishment for serving an evil lord. He didn’t care though, he would serve Scott till the bitter end.
He was at the castle of Oakhurst. He found it comforting to be there. Even though ti was different he had learned it like the back of his hand once again. He didn’t really know anything outside of it.
Louis knocked on the door, waiting for an answer that usually came fast at that specific rhythm. Nobody else used it other than Louis.
Abolish recognized the knocking pattern and quickly went to answer the door.
“Louis? You’re here?”
"Abolish!"
He greeted, smiling.
"I haven't seen you in years."
“You’re alive? I thought you died.”
"I was, yes, but I'm back now."
“How..? That shouldn’t be possible.”
"I was revived. That's... the best theory I have."
“Please come in.”
He stood to the side to let Louis in

"I missed you."

"I'm not sure. He should be able to tell."

"How drastic? Is he safe? Is he... sane?"

“…so that spell was cast by some sort of mage? And they trapped Owen too?”

Louis turned around, smiling at the newcomer. He didn't recognise them as a town member from when he was around, but they seemed supernatural in some way, shape, or form.
"Hello!"
Yes… definitely a Vampire. He seemed cheerful though… kind.
“Hi. I haven’t seen you around town before… it’s good to see a new and friendly face.”
"I just came back."
He smiled, tilting his head slightly and folding his hands behind his back politely.
"I've been... away for a while. What can I call you, stranger?"
A previous resident? Visitor? Was he from before Owen’s time?
“I’m Water. What can I call you?”
"Louis!"
He smiled, bowing slightly.
"Louis Blanchet. Old Mayor of Oakhurst."
The smile Water had on their face tightened just the slightest bit.
“…you’re supposed to be dead.”
So was Legundo… but Water knew that death wasn’t the end. Not if someone was desperate enough.
"I was brought back. I have no idea how, but I was revived."
His smile was careful. Polite. Be polite. Nobody deserved initial hatred. He was a good man.
“…interesting. You don’t know who? Strange… Well, those aren’t the weirdest circumstances I’ve heard of. Welcome back to Oakhurst… things have…definitely changed, I’d assume.”
They shrug, trying to shove off the fact that this was likely the Louis that Owen always talked about…

He looked around, shoulders dropping. Holding up a professional persona was easy, but not when he was tired, in so much pain, and was so incredibly hungry.

Louis knocked on the door of the castle awkwardly, glancing around nervously. He assumed Scott would be there and he wanted to see his fledgling again, as a sire would.

Scott wasn't expecting so many knocks when he came to the castle for vacation this year, but then again they never stopped getting knocks when he lived here full time. Scott opened the door and his dead heart nearly stopped, eyes wide and taking a sharp breath in at seeing who it was before him. Someone he truly thought he would never see again, someone he believed was dead.
"L.. Lou?"
"Scott?"
Louis' voice was shaky and almost scared. He hadn't seen Scott in so long... he'd missed him. Missed his smile. His comfort. His love.
Scott had never seen him stage 3 before, he realised. The white braid down his back would probably startle the other man.
"You.."
His own voice was shaky as he stared at the man, looking him up and down. After decades, it was hard to believe he was really here. He looked.. different. Good, but different. He never expected to see Louis at level 3, given how he was, but it was understandable after all this time.
"Lou.. is that really you?" He asked, tentatively taking a step towards him.
"It is, Mon cheri." He reached out his hand for Scott. The other man looked as beautiful as the day he lost him. Same sparkle in his eyes. Same comforting voice.
Same Scott.
Scott just stared in shock for a moment before he ran into Louis's arms, wrapping his arms around him and burying his face into his shoulder. He thought he'd never hear those pet names from him again.
"Lou.. you're here, you're alive, I thought.. oh Lou."
Louis chuckled slightly, but it was a sound that held so much pain and loss and grief. He held onto Scott, stroking his hair and holding him close.
"I'm back, my love. I'm back."
