Ok! Can we talk about it a little? I found that part so fascinating. Apart from the romantic nontoxic reaction of it all. What has Nolan seen and heard that his first thought was his request would offend him? I mean, unsurprising perhaps because actors are generally notorious for their egos and sharing screen/competing even with their partners? It’s so common even outside the acting though. Feels like bare minimum for a partner/Tom to have reacted like “don’t be silly offended is the last thing I could feel” but nowadays it isn’t.

No you're so right. Particularly when a couple is in the same industry, they are viewed as competition with each other. They are almost pushed to form a level of "I can do better" that leans toxic, especially between a man and a woman. (Sadly) it's refreshing to see him not only push back, why would I be offended, joke about it because it's so ridiculous to him and also actually sound a little appalled he'd even be asked that.

The bare is beneath hell but things like this hopefully help it get raised.

Agree with all that was said above and I would also add the fact that they are an extremely popular couple adds another layer to it.

Nolan and co are well aware of the narratives casting both could create.

To me asking the way he seemingly did is a way to also communicate that they want both and these are separate creative decisions.

Hearing that the film also slightly leans into horror, peaks my interest
