I Rebel

“It does not matter when or why you joined, Jyn, only that you have. The same could be said of Baze and I. But I understand that belonging. I feel it too. We go together, there is no way around it., “ he answered softly. He did not think she was selfish. No, they had each had their own way of being involved with this fight, but none was worth more than the other.

Leia smiled sadly. In some ways she supposed it did. But in the end they both had been rescued. Her by Luke and Han. While Jyn had been rescued by her team. She knew that Jyn would probably be angry for a while so she didn’t blame her for snapping at her. “It’s quite alright for you to be angry. It does no one any good to hold it in.” She said with a soft encouraging smile. “War changes us in ways we can never really understand. All that matters now is to look to the future. To have hope.”

“I’ve lost all use that I had. I’m no longer needed. They’ll keep me here till i’m healed and then drop me off on the nearest populated planet.” Cassian wanted her to stay and fight but she wasn’t so sure she had a place. Things had fit so well when Rogue one were working side by side. Now they weren’t. Now they were bruised and broken. The guardians still weren’t out of medical. “I don’t know why you’re here, princess. I don’t know what you want from me.”

He listened to her intently, pleased to hear firsthand that others were wisely afraid of Vader, and overall not misinformed about who he was. At her question, he was amused to hear her ask what he was instead of who. Still, he replied simply, “I am Vader’s grandson.” To explain exactly how he’d gotten here, in this time, would probably confuse her too much, so he’d leave it at that. It was unlikely she knew the exact age of the infamous Sith lord, so he doubted he was in any danger of her pointing out the chronological flaw in his story. But it was the truth, nonetheless. 

The shuttle shook as it started to land. They’d at last arrived at the Death Star. More specifically, they were near one of the prison sectors, where Galen Erso was being held. Ren stood, motioning for her to follow as well, at least if she didn’t want to be taken in by force. 

She gave him a look of pure confusion and disbelief. “Someone actually mounted that monster? I knew some people liked bad boys but that’s just wrong on so many levels.Although i’m actually more surprised he has the right parts available to get someone pregnant. What self respecting woman would-”

Jyn cut herself off when the shuttle landed and she finally admitted to herself no amount of back talk was getting her out of this one. She had no allies. Even if they hadn’t stated her crimes the Empire would surely have something on her. They didn’t just go around picking up random women on the street.

     Rey looked at her own water flask when the girl mentioned water, it was nearly empty apart from the last few mouthfuls at the bottom. The scavenger had been saving it for her dinner tonight

      “That’s as much charity as you’re gonna get around here, if you want water you’ll have to scavenge parts from the old ships that are about half a day by a speeder, or a full day walking. You trade parts with Unkar he’s the only one with portions around here.”

Pausing Rey studied the girl for a moment, her garb wasnt like the local thieves that breezed through the Nima Outpost.

     “Where you from?”

“No where.” 

She answered the way she would always answer though she knew some would disagree with her now. She’s had homes in the past.

“Yavin IV I guess. That’s where I last had a bed at least. My ships com system is out or playing up or something. I can’t call for help.”

Though this answer did not give him half as much information as he would’ve liked, he could sense she was telling the truth. He didn’t have to pry into her mind to do this. Most people were not so good at controlling their body language to lie without setting off at least one or two red flags, so he took her answer at face value. 

“It isn’t Force sensitives alone that the Empire does not approve of,” he said, amused by her assumption. “Otherwise I would be out of a job, wouldn’t I…?”

“I’m still not sure who you are. I’ve heard of no Kylo Ren. Everyone has heard of Vader even just in part. The terrifying black clad giant wandering the galaxy on the emperors whim. I’ve seen the damage he leaves behind. I read all about the down fall of the Jedi Order by his hand. There’s suppose to be no Jedi left, no one with the skill. Yet here you are. A strange dark manifestation and you’re not Darth Vader so what are you?”

She frowned at Jyn’s words and shook her head. “I don’t even think they knew I was captured. They had told everyone that I was dead. It’s what they believed.” She said with a shrug of her shoulders. It was in the past now. She was safe and that was what mattered. She smiled softly at Jyn. “You know if my father were here he would agree with you. Had he still been on Yavin IV he would have made sure someone got you guys. I wasn’t told that there had been survivors until I got back. I think they just saw the death star and ran.” She said with a sigh. “As for joining the alliance I suppose that is up to you. I will not force you to stay and be apart of this if that is what you do not wish.”

“Well...that just makes it worse then doesn’t it.” Jyn didn’t know how Leia could just brush it off. How had this girl become such a rebel when she was raised a princess? “I know what happened. I know they ran. I owe my survival to my team and no one else.” She needed to stop talking so harshly. If she was staying she was going to do herself no favours by snapping at everything and everyone. “When I was first brought in I wanted nothing to do with this war then my mind changed I guess. It was for selfish reasons at first but to look into the faces of your council and see so few of them with hope. I knew something had to be done. I wouldn’t be here though, if it weren’t for Rouge One.”

“A warning may only build anticipation and fear. Sometimes it proves more effective to be thrust into something than to allow too much thinking and debate,” he answered, tilting his head slightly. Yes, something was coming, and although he couldn’t quite place it, he knew it was going to be big. Part of it terrible, but there was also an inkling of light and joy that was growing. He did not want to place too much hope on it…and yet he had the feeling it might provide just that.

     “I would recommend you not steal from Plutt he’s not one to mess with” Rey didn't know why she was telling this unknown traveller such information. No other scavenger or traders cared for Reys well being so why should she? but something about the mysterious women made Rey stop and watch her, as she inched closer to a pile of parts that Plutt left out in the open, as a show of his power and who really ran the place. 

Jyn turned round at the sudden voice then glanced back at the pile of parts. So it was a ploy. When she had discovered the only way to get food around here was to sell parts for it she thought she’d hit the jackpot. Evidently she was wrong. “Thanks. I woke up in a wreck half a days walk from here about two days ago...I’ve been trying to get one of these grim faced sellers to give me at least some water but all they want are portions and I don’t have any otherwise i’d have eaten.”
