I understand where the anti-recast people are coming from, but the fact that they constantly bully people who own recasts is disgusting. Judge by the content of someones character, not by the doll they own

However I am judging you for the content of your character, I would rather not befriend someone who would steal from an artist, just so they can save a little bit of money… I think it is selfish, and it is another character flaw I think some people in the hobby have.

Mind you I do still judge the bullying, because that is not okay.

However not wanting to be your friend, is not bullying you. Ignoring you is not bullying you.

Hi there anon! no need to apologize for being new, we have all been there.

Recasts are counterfeit dolls. 

Legitimate dolls from companies are taken, and put into molds to copy the doll (which usually makes the dolls slightly smaller and less detailed), and then the dolls are remade using those molds and inferior resin (the stuff the dolls are made out of). The dolls are then sold for a cheaper price.

Its like taking someone’s piece of music they have created, badly covering it, and then selling it as their own song. Its just plain theft.

Why we are so against it? Well, unlike most american fashion dolls, BJDs are not mass produced. They are hand made by the artists, and take time and dedication and creativity to create. An artist’s heart and soul are put into each of their dolls. It hits artists really hard when their work is stolen and badly remade. Many companies, including stand-alone-artists and “larger” bjd companies have fallen victim to this, and some have been forced to either close down, or discontinue, or go on a hiatus. It is heart breaking.

A lot of people also don’t understand that dolls are not a necessity, and that you don’t need to own a doll that was discontinued, no matter how perfect it may be. Also, there are dolls that are beautiful that are cheaper than most recasts anyway. 

Any human with morals would see how this is a really bad issue that needs to stop, and that’s why many of us in the bjd hobby want to support the artists who create our beloved dolls instead of allow recasts to become a “common” or “okay” thing. 

The artists that create our dolls are the very heart of the hobby, without them there would be no BJDs and I know my life would be a lot poorer without their creations in it.

Say no to recasts, don’t support the fakes and copies that are eroding the hobby and community we all love, they’re driving away talented artists who deserve to be paid for their time and skill.

How can you blame people speaking against art-theft, people who tell you time and time again (though it shouldn’t be necessary) that theft is bad and you shouldn’t support it, for your own piss poor decision to go rip of artists by buying a counterfeited product? How is it at all logical to blame the people who actually cares about the artists? You say we should go after the recasters themselves, but you do realize youhelped create the huge market for these counterfeited items, right? You are the ones keeping up the demand for more stolen dolls resulting in less sales for the original artists who are begging you left right and center not to go buy them. There’s even a huge list compiled here on tumblr. It’s sickening how many companies are on that list and it’s only growing… If we want to get the recasters to stop it’s by getting the people who spend their money there to stop, else it will never stop, we can’t do shit and it’s frustrating. Only thing we can do is keep telling you again and again to please not give your money to recasters or the artists will surely leave and the hobby will leave with them. We didn’t tell you to go put money into art-thieves pocket, we told you the exact opposite, all this backed up with plenty of reasons as for why it’s harmful and still you disregard all of this and go ahead. How can you blame us for not wanting you around? How can you blame us for your own poor morale and judgement, take some responsibility. You knowingly made the huge demand for counterfeits by your own doing, so how do you dare blame the guys who spoke against it?

I get really frustrated, like many people in the community, about the ongoing art-theft from the recasters and the many supporters thereof. I own only legit and would never own anything else. Please stop the art-theft and let us all enjoy the hobby and watch it grow. If you want to stop recasting the first step is for people to stop spending their money by a known art-thief as they are the ones who have created the huge market for them. It won’t do anything for anyone to go after the recasters themselves as they couldn’t care less at the end of the day watching the money ticking in faster and faster each day because of people being blind to the harm it is doing. As this is a nieche hobby and fairly unknown not even legal forces can’t help us to do jack about the rampant theft. All the people defending the artists are called bullies for calling it as it is; art-theft. This in turn has those in favour of said art-theft up in arms and will do just about anything to defend it and will dream up any and every excuse they can come up with to say it is okay and all is fine and dandy. Honestly, with all the hate towards the artists I don’t feel like you even appreciate the dolls, you never have. As an artist myself I fully understand why people so fervently defend the artists, why there’s a huge emphasis on protecting the artist’s rights of their own intellectual property and why they beg for people to not buy recasts. No company out there is big, even those big brand names such as SOOM and FL aren’t run by more than a handful of people at most. Please, everyone, lets see the hobby thrive and let us all get together and support our artists. We don’t care whether you get a cheap or expensive doll, small or large, whichever company, colour, whatever you might happen to like! Dolls are awesome, our artists are awesome, all you guys supporting and showing your love and appreciation by buying a legit product let us all stand together and have some fun seeing this hobby grow and expand! Not slowly diminish and die off ever so slowly because art-theft is a very real threat to the continued existence of this hobby and its many artists.
