L-like… like the ability to see the dead?
( would that count? she wasn’t born with it so maybe not. she felt nervous telling a stranger all of this but she didn’t think he was lying. sae wasn’t about to jump on him and snap his neck so he wasn’t any harm. she shifted awkwardly, still nervous. her stomach churned inside of her, anxiety causing her chest to tighten. )
--I've never heard of that. But I've never heard of a lot. We see new ones every day.
[ the corner of his lips twitched up with a slight understanding of empathy. everyone called him a freak. he couldn't go to school, that was a definite no. his dad left his mother and him when he started doing the thing with his hands. --he didn't care, though. he liked his mom better anyway. joanna wasn't a freak. she wasn't. ]
Cupcakes! Yes, that’s what we… sell here. Mostly. Or cookies.
What kind of cupcakes did Bill want? Does he have any allergies? Restrictive diets? The vegan cupcakes are on that side of the display.
Cookies! I like cookies. The taste is good. They make my tummy hurt.
Oh! He said, 'Gary, get the most chocolate ones you can get. Eat any and so help me--', but then Nina pushed me out of the door. I didn't hear the rest.
[ Oh, no— he’s a tad uppity. She applies an expression somewhat relaying a mild bout of confusion while the rest makes out to form the subtle lines of amusement.]
Where’s the fire, friend? Yeah, I’m here for Doctor Rosen. He’s going to be my new dentist.
[ Lips peel away into a smile and fangs find themselves revealed at the corners of her mouth. ]
There's no fire. There would be bells. And we'd be burning. Not talking. That's what fire does. And-- Doctor Rosen isn't a denti--
[ Cut off by the look of the other's mouth, a twinge of fear and amusement crept up Gary's spine. That -- that was cool! It was a thing. She had a thing. He let out a muffled snicker, stepping a bit closer to look closer at the other's fangs. They were real! ]
You need a dentist!
"S-Sorry, I guess I lost my way. Or… drunk me had another adventure?" She wasn’t quite sure, but it was probably the second one. She was always getting lost when drunk. "Where am I?"
"You're in Doctor Rosen's building. You're not allowed here, though. We have to go. I have to go. I want juice. There's no more for my sandwiches." He paused, crossing his arms over his chest. "You're in New York. New York, okay? Do you know your way around?"

[ Nervous fingers prattled against his jeans as he walked down the hallway splattered with paintings from every generation. --There was little to no organization to this public exhibit. ]
I don't see anything, Bill. This is bor-- What? Indoor voice? Oh, indoor voice. I was yelling. That's -- that's outdoor voice.
[ An annoyed huff escaped his lips as he walked on, already growing a bit tired of doing basic field duty training. In short -- it sucked. ]
when i first made this blog for gary i scrolled through the entire 'gary bell' tag* and drafted 63 things.
that's determination.
--Hey! What are you doing here? You're not allowed here. Go away. Unless you're looking for Doctor Rosen. Or a turkey sandwich. I have two of those. I can share. Nina made them.
[ Hands glided across the air in front of him, poking in and out before continuing, eyebrows furrowing together. ]
Why are you here?
⎨Autistic, obvious. More so than a certain detective he knew, but not by much. The gleam of intelligence that sparked within the alpha’s eye was what pulled Jim to take a seat next to him, back cracking audibly as he creaked backwards onto the wooden bench.⎬
He makes you work on break? Oh my! That is terrible. Do you work for this…Bill?
⎨Idle conversation could lead to the revelation of one’s darkest secrets. It was all about how you pulled the master strings. This one was smart enough not to give away information without cause. Jim would need to debug the coding slowly.⎬
I’m Richard, by the way.
[ Everyone spoke like this when they first met him. It was probably a human nature thing. They repeated you to express empathy, then made an exclamation of melodramatic shock. Like an elementary teacher to their class. Gary, at this point, was completely used to it. Sometimes it could be soothing, like when he was angry or upset, other times it made him a bit on edge. His hands flickered faster, scrolling through the waves at an almost anxious rate -- small things. ]
I don't work for Bill. We're equals -- he's my partner.
[ After getting the guys name, his actions halted for a brief second, eyebrows furrowing together before they resumed -- like a glitch on a computer screen. He then answered. ]
I'm Gary.

[ A thorough sweep with tentative limbs and hues of pale viridian variant leaves little room to the imagination when concerning creatures that varied of his own species: and this was the enigmatic sort that piqued everything Khan found welcome and wondrous of the natural variety. He was human, but not — much like Khan himself — and this captured his thoughts until he focused on retrieval. ]
Why do you dislike bees?
[ Its mundane and thoroughly embarrassing, how he asks such a young person of their negative stature regarding insect creatures veiled in aureate and obsidian (accompanied with an ugly buzzing and sharp stinger—ah, the more he thinks about it, the more he agrees), and he feels — silly. ]
[ It was like having a stranger constantly flicking an on/off switch in your room. One moment Gary was completely ignorant and blissful in his room where he only saw what his superior brain provided him with -- most waves on the electromagnetic spectrum -- then the next second he suddenly had a very acute sense of his surroundings. He was suddenly involved with the environment around him. There was society knocking at his door. He didn't like it very much. He preferred his waves over people by a long shot. So excuse him when he quickly turned, his torso facing the man that spoke. That was about it for social cues. No eye contact, awful hand gestures pertaining to his waves, and definitely odd speech patterns. ]
They're terrible! [ He nearly shouted, suddenly filled with an unhealthy contempt. ]
They aim for your ears -- with their noisy wings. They're plotters! They plot! Then they're inconsiderate and easily threatened -- obnoxious bees. I hate them. They're evil.
—Um…
[ She looks around, tries to pin a face to the ‘Bill’. ]
—Can I help you? We don’t… sell pudding here, though. You should try the grocery store next door.
Yes, Bill. I'm getting them. Calm down!
You have cupcakes though, right? I need cupcakes. Bill says I need cupcakes and today I have to listen to Bill.
Strider smiled fondly at the other and shifted to be in front of him again, watching him and tilting his head, “I wish I could see what you’re doing. What’s it look like? I can tell you what time feels like, if you want.” You are being too friendly, Mr. Strider, and you’re probably confusing him.
"He sounds like my friend Luka. He’s a muta— Alpha, as well." He murmured, laughing after a few moments, "Are you sure they won’t mind? Do they not listen to what you say? Or what you need? That’s impolite." A short pause. "But how can you not be mutated?"
He -- he was nice. This guy was being nice to him. It was a weird feeling for a stranger to be nice. When he first got into working with Doctor Rosen everyone would get frustrated with him a lot. They almost never talked about him in front of his face, but when they were gone they would whisper terrible things to one another. "There are colors, and numbers. Then I pick one I want to see and make it bigger. Like a screen on my vision." He paused, frowning slightly. "Time feels like something?
"Your friend Luka is a jerk-off? Why is he your friend then?" His eyebrows tugged together and shifted in his seat, leaning in a bit more towards the conversation. "Yeah, most of them are nice. Just the government ones are mean. You'll see them. They're the ones wearing suits. --Except Bill. He wears a suit. I'll let you know who he is so you don't get confused." A small chortle escaped his lips, looking around the café before responding. "Mutated means something's happened to you-- right? Alphas occur naturally. Not irregular, just less common."
x, x
Bees, Bill. Bees. Remember the last time I was out in the forest? There were bees. I hate bees. Why would you make me come out here for this? I don't need fresh air, Bill. I hate bees. I told you, they have evil intent.
[ Anxious fingers swiped at the air in front of him, searching desperately for any type of electromagnetic signal. It wasn't really completely empty. He wasn't fully starved of his power; it was just rather barren. Like getting your coffee in small doses in the morning. Or having s'mores with only one mini marshmallow. It was a tease. ]
--Bill! Pick me up! I don't want to be -- ...you hung up. You hung up didn't you, Bill? --Bill hung up.

⎨Alpha’s were such terribly interesting creatures. Not so much superheroes as average people with an ability to lock in and control certain parts of the human brain that most neurologists only salivated over. Jim’s interest lay in not what made them tick, but how he could get the time to move in his favor.⎬
⎨It was the scientist’s job to prod the subject, while as Jim was perfectly happy in believing that it was all magic.⎬
⎨He did love a good fairytale.⎬
Bill sounds like quite the spoilsport. Mind if I sit?
--Bill is a spoilsport!
[ twitchy hands came to a sudden halt at the arrival of the other, willing the waves that scampered around his head to diminish in a sort of disintegrating manner. his eyebrows furrowed as he quickly registered the male's features in his head, making sure to remember them. ]
He is! He tries to make me do things for him when I'm on my break. A break means I don't do things for awhile. Bill doesn't know what a break is. --You can... sit.
( jo understood he didn’t mean to be hurtful, so she let it pass. her features softened when she heard what alphas where. suddenly, she felt less alone and less… freakish. she pulled out a journal from her bag and wrote down a few words before pushing it back into her bag. )
Like… what kind of powers?
--All kinds!
[ His train of thought was cut short for a moment; him being distracted by some oddly shaped wavelength. Turned out it was a Nokia. They were harder to crack. Ran on a different spectrum. ]
Oh -- yeah. All kinds. All kinds of powers. Everything. Physical, mental, sometimes even spiritual. It's always different. All kinds of powers.
