+ some light explanations. includes portrayal divergences.
overview:Ā boyishly casual, he forgoes honorifics among peers and naturally veers from formalities in general. none of this is done with ill intent; heās just easygoing as hell, you get the earthy/rural vibe from takeshi in general and this includes his speech, but heās got his basic table manners down. for the most part, seniors get the -san. strangers still get friendly/casual appellations such as ānice auntieā or āthat little guyā depending on their presented age et al
key, in any case: what he first calls you > what he comes to call you.Ā he typically follows last name > first name as time passes and your relationship with him develops. if you happen to endgame with him, itās understood that he would most certainly call you by your first/intimate name. otherwise, he may not come to call you anything different at all past the initial/most impersonal form of addressāit just depends on who you are.
from the beginning we already got to first-name and nickname basis here lads thereās not really much to change
gokudera hayato: gokudera
although it would have been plausible for takeshi to switch to hayato over time like how takeshi would familiarize himself with most of the other guardians, itās not going to happen for my 80 unless gokudera tyls up and emotionally develops to a point where he can actively sand at the exceptionally extra friction his younger self had spent years layering between him and takeshi
disclaimer takeshi ofc has no animosity. rather he just feels as if heās behind this really thick glass pane (if that makes sense) and that doesnāt just whittle itself down so easily no matter how tolerant/kind/accommodating takeshi has always been to othersā emotional baggage affecting their unrulier behaviors/actions towards him
if the situation somehow needs context: sasagawa-senpai (e.g.; if takeshi is speaking of their sun guardian to others who do not know ryohei themselves or could not otherwise discern how takeshi usually refers to ryohei, it would be something likeĀ our sun guardian sasagawa-senpaiĀ in order to add an actual name to it)
hibari kyouya: hibari > hibari-san > kyouya
divergence: itās funny because when he eventually adds the -sanĀ (i want to estimate somewhere between the last two manga arcs), itās almost like shedding formalities out of order. the reason he does this is because hibari is technically an upperclassman (tsuna called him senpai at first where did that even go im dead lmfao) but heās not Quite upperclassman to takeshi the way ryohei is. this does not at all constitute lack of respect; in fact itās the opposite, because the honorific is also bred from a pinch of diffident admiration.
he infuriatingly cozies up with kyouya because of this same admiration budding to fruition (platonic or romantic it doesnāt matter; hibari is someone special to him) and thatās where tyl takeshi eventually sliiiiiides on to first-name basis (acting like heās slick with a cheesy grin but you know hibari raises a brow at first)
for some reason literally nobody ever starts off with mukuroās last name despite his name following regional semantic ālast, firstā pattern??? WHERE IS THE RESPECT LMFAO
enmaās appellation was like tsunaās to where they werenāt considered āintimidatingā enough for most people to think about it, but itās not like mukuro wasnāt intimidating so this is just funny as fuck
so anyway thereās no further intimate development to make here, but takeshiās never meant to skip to his first name out of disrespectāmore than likely thatās just what he heard everybody else calling mukuro at first, then later he sticks with it because heās likeĀ āhaha yeah weāre friendsā and is totally cool being chummy as fuck
chrome dokuro: dokuro > chrome
divergence: takeshi is seen to call her dokuro until simon arc. my portrayal keeps dokuro for a while longer. in 8096 endgame he eventually might slide to nagi depending on how she feels about the nameāwhether itās a remnant she wants to abandon or notābut would basically use the most intimate appellation for her in that case
sasagawa kyoko: sasagawa > kyoko
this doesnāt get confusing with takeshi because ryohei is always senpai. if takeshi ever appellates sasagawa itās going to refer to kyoko
divergence:Ā once he starts calling her haru, takeshi doesnāt really use -chanĀ or -kun in any serious context, but at times heāll play along with haru and refer haru-chan in third person when she does it too. this is exclusive to him speaking with haru herself
so the thing with western names is that they donāt quite follow ālast, firstā pattern in their vernacular and if your name follows this regional standard, it seems far more common to just take the first name and add any appropriate/potential honorific (this is despite some of these characters having canonical last names; e.g. cavallone or superbi) mukuro and chromeās names being on the makeshift side might also put them in this āotherā category and therefore reason the more common usage of their first names
this will expand in relationships meta later but takeshi and dino are lads for a number of reasons.Ā 1.) history with squalo in which all three become a social cue manipulation mastery lad trio 2.) takeshi taking that trip to dinoāsĀ villaĀ and ladding it up
reborn: kid / little guy > reborn-san > reborn
reborn is yamamoto takeshiās godfather and you can pry this out of my cold dead fists homeboy next door fuckin loves reborn with all his heart thats his second dad. one of the only bitches in this house who holds up his damn camera phoneĀ āyouāre doing amazing sweetieā for yamamoto fucking takeshi, always hitches a ride on takeshiās shoulder when takeshi is present (although i cannot remember if dino is first shoulder choice; i need to reread and check for scenes of them all together) the formality order is very tentative; i want to say he would follow the pattern with reborn similarly to how he does hibariās because these characters are a few of the particular ones to takeshi
yamamoto tsuyoshi: dad, pop
expanding on semantics: sometimes tousan but when you hear it in speaking, itās mostly oyaji, always something along that rural vein. brief disclaimer, sometimes tousan might be written out from 80ā²s perspective if such semantics ever need to be emphasized (for style or chara tone) because otherwise thereās no reason to be sprinkling eng writing with random east asian language vocab for the nonsensical accessorizing sake of it ngl we side eye you real hard
thereās just never any change here because like mukuro in the previous arc, varia starts out as an impersonalĀ āantagonistā and thereās no -san even though squalo would have been a senior like dino under more personal or cordial initial circumstances
squalo voice why the FUCK do you only call bucking horse politely and not ME you fucking katana brat respect your seniors i even TUTORED you
takeshi: haha!!! it somehow just ended up being that way but donāt be like that squalo weāre pals :D
dino has to block squalo from slicing takeshi to ribbons in the middle of the bar you just hear a motley of violent shrilling and oblivious laughter and broken glass
mizuno kaoru: mizuno > kaoru
donāt get me started about their interactions or iāll start sobbing tldr he firstnames kaoru fast within the arc and they are deffo pals
probably everyone else lmao:Ā just their last names (+any potential and appropriate honorific such as -san for seniors like romario) or whatever appellation is most socially common; this is for impersonalnessā sake. it likely does not shift to their first name, either, even with time.
