Ren, in the darkness of his room, watching Twitter, specifically shtwt, looking for inspiration for cuts like this:

Tpof Fox is slightly frustrated because a big part of his thing is toying with the captive, the back and forth while torturing them. That being said for the sake of the shows he'd learn how to communicate what he'd want to signal and focus a lot on your facial expressions. In the "he keeps you" ending, he full on learns sigh language and most likely gets his closest guards to do so as well. You're also spoiled rotten regardless when you behave, and this extends to getting the best accommodations for your disability.

Ykmet Ren would be slightly frustrated yet again - a new pet is on the house! He could have company!!! But you two can't communicate easily! That being said however, he will try to learn sigh language and in the meantime while getting better at it, you two establish a silent communication. If he likes you he is extra protective of you against strade whom being what he is would most certainly enjoy using your disability against you. Also don't think your deafness means that if he likes you he won't force you to sit down and watch anime with him, subs on.

What would his reaction be to see my PC, the painting I made for him filled with his face, my headboard with a print of him, my Roblox avatar wearing a t-shirt with his face on it, the fact that I started to buy things with the theme of foxes bc of him, my TikTok account full of him just like my gallery, a playlist for him.

If I could cut his name into my skin I would have already done it LMAO or at least get a tattoo.

Well, by the time he reaches TPOF, the answer is obviously not.

However, as Gatobob stated, that's simply one possible future for him. There are some bits of his character that shine through that are uniquely good or evil. Let's catalog his behavior throughout the games:

BTD1-Will give MC water and help them pull nails out of their body, if they don't scare him off (sure, taking the nails out increases the risk of infection, but it's the thought that counts!). Will refuse to help MC escape when asked.

BTD2-Kidnaps MC, collars them, and forces them to kill Lawrence in every route but one. Will torture, outright kill, or let MC go depending on their actions.

YKMET-Will give MC painkillers and even cut their restraints if they're nice to him. Lets MC escape in one ending. Refuses to let them go in another two. Will kill MC in two others.

All versions of him seem to be completely different, but there are some consistencies across each iteration of the character.

1) Strade is a looming external and internal presence in his mind.

2) His foremost fear is being alone.

3) He has a transactional approach to relationships.

With each version of him, Strade is not so much a person, but a force that motivates his sadism. In TPOF, he becomes a snuff streamer. The thing is, that wasn't his desire. That was Strade's. I've seen people argue that Ren would have been a sadistic killer no matter what, but this completely ignores Strade's influence. He presumably wasn't a killer before he met Strade. Ren has some toxic personality traits, as outlined above, but to insist he would have always turned out this way doesn't seem to hold water, especially when loneliness was a driving factor for all of it.

Ren exhibits some behaviors of narcissism. He assumes everyone thinks the same way he does. Him being surprised at MC trying to escape in BTD2 is proof of this. He will view himself as either faultless or the only source of the problem (think of how he blames himself for Strade's death). Special pleading is also in the narcissist's toolbox: he doesn't view anything wrong with kidnapping and torturing MC, but when it happens to him, it suddenly becomes unacceptable. Not to mention, kidnapping and killing Lawrence! Ren complained to Strade about how bad his life sucked because he got stood up on a date. I imagine Lawrence would have preferred getting stood up to what he got.

While the foundation for Ren's narcissism was always there, it's clear he wouldn't have known to do half the things he does without Strade in his life. His memory of Strade even compels him to dress like him. It's interesting that in YKMET, Strade has to push Ren to assault MC. When it's over, Strade gaslights him by saying, "I love it when you stop pretending..." as if he would have done it without Strade threatening to shock him!

All that to say, his fear of loneliness and discomfort is what keeps him staying with Strade. Even when he has the opportunity to escape, he refuses to take it. If MC is nice enough to him, he'll help them kill Strade but will then kill MC when he realizes his meal ticket is gone.

So the ultimate question: is Ren a good person? Most days, I lean towards not really. He is a coward, first and foremost. Not because he refuses to fight back against Strade. I imagine that's something most people would be intimidated by. He's a coward because he refuses to imagine a life without comfort. He refuses to imagine a life without Strade. He allows Strade to commit horrific acts of violence and stays with him because he fears being alone more than he fears the pieces of his soul being chipped away.

The fact he can feel guilty enough to let MC go in BTD2 and is willing to sacrifice himself in YKMET shows he has good traits. However, overall, it would take a lot of effort on his part to be anything approaching 'good'. He's a selfish, cowardly, horny little gremlin, and that's why I love him. ❤️🦊

As an aside, I'm honestly glad Gato wrote YKMET Ren to be more transactional and a little bit more of an asshole. It lines up a lot better with how he acts in TPOF, and he even looks more similar to Fox.
