A Hero Who Would Rather Not

Teague had to land outside of Larstern’s city limits, if only because there wasn’t a landing site for a starship in Larstern proper.  Once Teague and his party were inside the city, they were greeted by some Imperial Troopers.  “Good to see you,” the Sergeant mentioned.  “What brings you out here to Larstern, friend?”

“Most places you can go to in order to buy things are willing to teach Adventurers the basics of crafting things.”

“Anyways, let’s get going,” Teague says, going to find an armorsmith somewhere in the guild. 

Such as: Furries, Talking Animals, Pokemon, Robots, Androids, Mutants, Ghosts, Monsters, Myths (creatures or figures), OC created creatures, Morphers, Humans with Supernatural Powers, Angels, Fallen Angels, Demons, Creatures from Video Games (Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Mario, ect)

“There’s plenty of smithing shops nearby the Guild Hall,” the trainer admitted.  “Might be a good idea for ya to pick up some additional skills though so you don’t have to buy all of your gear.”

“I assume there are places we can learn those skills?” James asks.

“Usually the ‘recruiting fees’ are just splitting the rewards with them,” the trainer mentioned.  “Adventurers are all freelance agents, so we just have a habit of splitting gold and loot among those who are working together.  However, depending on the job, you might have to pay a finder’s fee before you can begin the quest.”

With that out of the way though, it seemed it was time to go check on how much it’d cost to get the armor fitted... speaking of which, “Do you know where I can find one of your smiths?”

There wasn’t much loot on these monsters, though the Fire Giant had about 20 gold to split between the party, and between the rest of the monsters, there was another 20 gold for everyone.  “That’ll do it,” the trainer said.  “Now, before I forget, your reward for your training.”  The trainer gave about 500 Gold to the party.  “That should be enough to get you on your feet now.”

“You find that monsters seem to like stealing money from others,” the trainer explained.  “Maybe it’s out of some desire to have an economy themselves, I don’t know.  Nobody’s going to complain if you steal the money back, and if they don’t have any, you can just steal some loot off of them and sell it for coin.”

“No Gold on you then?” the trainer mentioned.  “Astrid can probably give ya some money to work with for free, but she won’t give you enough to solve everything for ya.  Alternatively you can just battle random monsters out in the wilderness and steal the Gold they have on them or sell vendor trash that they have on them.”

“Aye, that ya are,” the trainer replied.  “You’ll be able to take on quests over at the Guild Hall once you’re ready.”

“Yeah... dang currency issues. Well, might as well drop the armor off onboard the Firelance.” Once they’re up the hill Teague calls the very blocky ship over so they can do just that.

The Fire Giant was incredibly durable and would sometimes throw out a fire spell at the non-tank fighters, ensuring that they had to maintain some level of maneuverability during all of this.  Eventually, however, between the combined firepower of everyone, the Fire Giant was eventually vanquished.  The trainer nodded.  “Looks like you got the hang of it,” he declared.  “Well, that ends this training session.”

”Hey,” Teague huffs, before looking over to the trainer. “So I’m guessing this means we’re ready to take on a quest? Once we find a tank and a healer of course.” He starts heading back as he asks.

Once the elf was down, that just left the Fire Giant, who was dueling the tank as the healer kept him in peak condition.  That Fire Giant was big and tough, and it was best not to draw too much attention away from the tank if they wanted to survive.

The last ambush was different.  Instead of fighting a bunch of small monsters, there was one Elf and a Fire Giant, the latter of which was clearly the boss of this training session.  The Fire Giant bellowed his horn as he charged into battle with his massive blade, the elf staying back and firing off spells at the group, intending to blast them apart with lightning and fireballs.

As for who they were actually fighting, the trio were focused primarily on the elf when they weren’t dodging attacks, or in Teague’s case, occasionally using Reflect. Theobald in particular was attempting to lay down suppressive fire against her so she couldn’t cast spells as easily against them.

“Armor generally doesn’t have that enchantment,” the trainer mentioned.  “At any rate, you’ve got work to do.  Just one last fight to go and then you’re done.”

“They do not,” the trainer answered.  “You need a slow attack to get past Antistas, energy weapons aren’t any better against it than a physical firearm.  And for the record, it doesn’t make it hard to use guns.  Only an idiot builds armor that gets in the way of you using your weapons.  Honestly, what kind of idiot do you take our smiths for to build armor that gets in the way of shooting things? This isn’t some kind of game where your stats get affected by the gear you wear y’know.”

“Antistas armor is incredibly good against fast-moving projectiles like bullets, but against slower weapons like melee attacks and arrows, you might as well be wearing a cardboard vest,” the trainer mentioned.  “If you want to wade through gunfire and get into melee, Antistas armor is perfect for that role.  But once you’re in melee, you’re pretty much wearing dead weight for armor.”

”Do lasers work against it?” James asks.

Once the next wave was defeated, the trainer nodded.  “So far so good,” he declared.  “One more fight, and then we’ll call it for the day.”

“Three men in the middle of a fucking gunfight is never a fucking good time,” Theobald grumbles.

Some of the orcs seemed astonishingly resistant to bullets.  “Not every enemy can be shot to death,” the trainer mentioned.  “The ones with Antistas armor, you gotta melee instead.”

The next set of monsters, a bunch of Orcs armed with various weapons, charged forward.  Some of them were armed with grenades and used these for AoE attacks.
