𝗺𝘆 𝗲𝘆𝗲𝘀 ╱ 𝙢𝙮 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙝

     “     YEAH  ,  EVERYTHING  WILL  BE  JUST  fine.     ”     regardless  of  how  much  or  how  little  he  believed  his  statement  ,  just  saying  it  out  loud  helped.  if  he  said  it  enough  ,  maybe  he  and  everyone  around  him  would  begin  to  believe  it.  he  did  like  james  ,  but  he’s  started  to  notice  little  things  here  and  there  which  alert  him  to  why  others  may  not  like  him  as  much.  zee’s  surprised  that  seoyun  doesn’t  like  james.  after  all  ,  they  were  friends  ,  weren’t  friends  supposed  to  support  eachother     ?     “     i  think  you’re  crazy,     ”     he  says  it  with  a  wide  grin  ,  happy  that  he  takes  his  hand  and  tugs  him  up.  the  few  moments  their  hands  linger  together  isn’t  lost  on  him  ,  but  zee  chalks  it  up  to  factors  outside  of  his  control.  he  walks  side  by  side  with  seoyun  ,  laughing  when  he  feels  the  other’s  arm  hang  over  his  shoulder.     “     speak  for  yourself.  marshmallows  or  nothing.     ”     this  is  familiar  ,  something  he’s  used  to.  this  easy  banter.  no  worrying  about  potentially  straining  a  relationship.  at  his  next  comment  ,  zee’s  eyes  widen  and  he  pauses  ,  stepping  back  from  seoyun.     “     you  wouldn’t  dare.     ”     he’s  certain  that  his  hands  are  freezing  cold  ,  and  the  thought  of  such  a  temperature  on  his  own  warm  skin  makes  him  take  another  step  away.  there’s  a  grin  still  plastered  to  his  face.     “     you  wouldn’t.     ”     he  repeats.

     HEAD  TURNS  FROM  WHERE  IT  is  facing  cooktop  ,  easy  smile  appearing  upon  mouth.     “     morning  ,  sleepyhead.     ”     she  moves  to  lean  against  the  counter  ,  a  shirt  that  is  most  definitely  pippa’s  hanging  off  her  shoulders.     “     it  was  but  it’s  mine  now.     ”

     of  course  ,  fate  wasn’t  that  kind  to  him.  he  moved  his  things  and  set  up  his  side  of  the  criminally  tiny  room  an  hour  ago  and  took  to  scrolling  through  his  phone  as  he  sat  on  his  bed.  when  the  door  creaks  open  ,  he’s  disappointed  by  the  familiar  visage  that  greets  him.  with  a  quiet  groan  ,  he  sits  up  ,  swinging  long  legs  over  the  side  of  the  mattress  to  peer  at  his  random  roommate.     “     don’t  you  think  it’s  better  to  start  with  a  stranger     ?     ”     he’s  curious  so  he  hops  off  and  steps  over  to  the  other  side  ,  taking  a  look  at  the  box  that’s  set  on  the  bed.     “     wow  ,  niko  ,  you  really  don’t  remember  my  name     ?     ”     an  amused  smile  as  he  crowds  into  the  other’s  personal  space.     “     looks  like  you’ll  just  have  to  guess it.     ”   

     THEY  PRETEND  THE  COMMENT  DOESN’T  make  their  heart  flutter  in  their  chest  ,  instead  busying  themself  with  arranging  a  small  handful  of  colorful  lilies.  jem  can’t  help  but  wonder  who  he  could  possibly  be  getting  these  for  especially  so  late.  bouquet  is  held  over  the  counter  towards  nero  with  a  smile.     “     don’t  worry  about  paying  for  this,     ”     the  flowers  are  easily  above  forty  dollars  ,  but  they’ve  been  undercharging  nero  since  the  first  day,     “     it’s  a  thanks  for  offering  to  get  food  with  me  bouquet.     ”

     DUSTPAN  FILLED  WITH  DIRT  AND  fallen  petals  is  emptied  into  the  trashcan  as  soon  as  the  bell  rings.  they  have     “     we’re  closing  in  five  minutes     !     ”     half  way  out  their  mouth  when  they  realize  who’s  there.  a  momentary  pause  in  sweeping  the  already  spotless  floor  and  their  face  breaks  into  a  smile.     “     you  remembered     ?     uh  i  can  close  right  now  if  you  want.  doubt  anyone  will  walk  in  begging  for  roses  at  this  hour.     ”     please  say  close  now.

     THE  TWO  PASS  ARTEMUS’  ROOM  silently  ,  her  brother  most  likely  long  asleep  by  now.  it  wasn’t  that  she  was  nervous  of  ,  as  much  as  she’d  like  to  push  the  blame  on  him.  the  idea  of  doing  this  like  no  time  had  passed  at  all  is  what  makes  her  nervous.  so  much  had  changed  ,  but  they  seemed  bent  on  acting  like  everything  was  just  fine.  the  squeeze  around  her  hand  tells  her  otherwise.  this  was  all  wrong  ,  and  continuing  it  wouldn’t  make  it  right  in  any  means.  it  doesn’t  stop  her  from  answering     “     i’m  sure.     ”     she  can’t  bear  to  glance  back  at  him  ,  just  pulls  him  closer  when  she  clicks  open  the  door  to  her  room  and  steps  inside.  hand  refuses  to  let  go  of  his  as  she  tugs  him  inside  ,  closing  the  door  behind  the  two  of  them.  she  searches  for  his  face  in  the  dark.  how  many  times  have  they  done  this  before  and  why  does  it  feel  completely  different  but  just  the  same.     “     are  you-i  can’t  believe  i  forgot  to  ask-      ”     a  nervous  laugh      “     -are  you  even  tired  enough  to  fall  asleep  right  now     ?     ”     were  they  going  to  be  sitting  in  awkward  silence  in  her  bedroom  until  one  fell  asleep     ?

     “     you  of  all  people  know  that  i  can’t  promise  you  that.  i  can’t  promise  that  i’ll  be  back  either.  this  is  how  it  is.     ”
