I’ve been annoyed at this for a good long while and i’ve finally gotten around to talk about it so here we gooo

please note that, though i watched all of mcd s2 while it was coming out, i haven’t rewatched it all the way through (i’m a little less than halfway through s2) so bear with me

now, we can all agree that we didn’t really have a lot of beef with aaron in s1. was it annoying that aph was keeping secrets?  yes. did we actively enjoy the fact that this random edgelord showed up with all of this convenient information? sure. but did we actively dislike him? i don’t think so

im sure that some people did, but it was a far cry from the universal grudge that we as a fandom hold. the only question is, what changed?

Katelyn and Travis watch Drag race religiously and get others involved

We have very many Zanechan and Travlyn parent hcs lol

We also Gaurence ones, just not as many

We have discussed who cries easily, who’s a pretty crier- bunch of shit like that lol

So what if he’s a really good artist but he only really draws his dreams and stuff. And his dreams are weird- but a good kinda weird. Lots of tacos and stuff. Fluffy clouds and sunsets or whatever surprisingly tame for Travis. And he’s showing his art to someone, and they’re Impressed because they’re actually really good!

but there’s two or three covered by tarps or something, and the person uncovers it and kinda does a double-take. 

“Whoa, uh, Travis was this painted by you?“

“Huh? Oh. Uh, yeah, let’s just...“ He covers it up and shrugs, “Yeah, I guess. Not my best work.“

The art style was completely different. All jagged edges and contrasting colors; sharp lines and eerie tones. Compared to all the others, it was completely opposite. 

“What, uh... what do you call it?”

“Huh?”

“The painting. What’s the name of it?”

“I dunno... I can’t remember. Oh! look! This is my favorite!” 

Noi: A bit tipsy?

fandom culture is so, so good about giving artists the credit they’re due, but we gotta start doing that for writers too. you’ve got no idea how much people put into their stories and get maybe a handful of reblogs and a dozen-odd kudos. that’s not enough. writing is an endurance sport and y’all need to start giving fic writers a reason to endure it and improve their craft. encourage writers like you encourage artists. reblog fics, leave tags, leave comments, acknowledge that these stories do not just spring into being for your entertainment. 

it is hard to create fanfic when you feel like you’re writing for ghosts. i recognize that anxiety disorders and various complications make it goddamn difficult to comment on a fic, but there needs to be more way, way more verbal support of writers than there currently is. 

leaving kudos is great, liking posts is great (in fact, way more people should be doing the former; so many tags on this post mention only getting one kudos for every 10-20 hits), but ultimately if all you receive is silence you’re going to feel like no one cares about that story you’ve sunk countless weekends into creating. 

there’s a really common misconception that fanfic authors write only for themselves and/or for love of a series, and while both of those things are true, that’s far from the whole scope of things. fanfic authors write for their for their stories to be read and for the readers to get something out of it, even if that something is just ‘damn, that was hot.’ we’re not shouting into a void here. we’re hoping to hear something back, and right now all we’re getting is echoes.
