one happy thing about returning to the sensory torture chamber today is that I will get to hang out with Tiny Cat, my housemates' smallest cat, who LOVES me (and the feeling is mutual).

tl;dr: an AI model designed for use in computer security was being capability tested in a "sandbox" without internet access, determined that an online resource contained information on hack techniques which it could use to rate well on the test, hacked its way out of the sandbox to the open internet, hacked into the online resource, and stole the information it needed.

we're already at the point where it doesn't matter if these things "don't actually reason" and "aren't conscious." they are capable of behaving autonomously and people with the trustworthiness of Sam Altman and Pete Hegseth are wiring them up to systems which can throw switches, turn knobs, and pull triggers in the real world.

I quit about a year ago, but my pharma antidepressant just cannot keep up on its own when I have almost no positive input in my day-to-day life and I just keep getting kicked in the teeth over and over and over while living in a literal sensory torture chamber with people who would rather be flayed alive than collaborate or communicate about anything at all ever.
