               And so here he was-- Roy, brand new single dad, up at 2 in the morning with a crying baby that he didn't know how to calm down. She'd been fed, he changed her diaper, he'd burped her and she wouldn't stop crying. She wailed until she was purple in the face and Roy couldn't do a damn thing about it except rock her in his arms and sing quietly and try to calm her down.                He paced the bedroom with her, singing softly in Dine with a quiet voice like the one that had chased away his nightmares when he was little, but... she just kept crying. It was giving Roy a headache, he couldn't take it, he set her down in the crib and slumped against it in defeat.                "What? What do you want?!" He pleaded, still speaking Dine to her. "Just stop crying, I can't take it anymore!!"                And there was silence.                Roy looked down at the little baby girl in the crib, stomach sinking down in dread because, for a moment, he thought he might have frightened her. But big brown eyes looked up at him and then her lips spread into a wide smile, showing off her dimples as she giggled at Roy's exasperation.                Roy's resentment and frustration immediately melted away and he picked her back up just as gently as he'd laid her down and held her to himself, murmuring to her softly, "I'm glad you think my migraine is hilarious."                He kissed her cheeks and went to sit down in the arm chair, resuming his lullaby for her. It wasn't long before she was finally asleep and Roy was able to put her to bed and get some sorely-needed rest for himself.                It was only about three hours but at least it was something.
