Any chance Of a gift exchange this year? No pressure and no problem if itās not happening this year!
Okay, so this year has been... not great for me. There's a lot going on and the big things right this moment are that I'm unemployed and being evicted. So. That's great.
But! I do still want to host the gift exchange. I'm probably going to be doing the bulk of the moving this weekend, and after that I'll start setting up the signups and stuff. I know it's kind of late, and all the other deadlines might be pushed back a week or so because of that, but hey, at least it's not tied to a specific holiday anymore, right?
Anyway, the short answer is yes, there will be, expect an official announcement and signups next week sometime. (Although it might be later. I'm playing everything by ear right now.)
All assignments have been sent out
We have ten participants this year! Iām looking forward to see what everyone makes!
Since Iāve consistently managed to do everything exactly one day late, Iām moving back the other deadlines by one day. :P
Post your gifts on the 24th of January. @ mention this blog and your giftee in your gift, and tag it with #redwall-midwinter-gift-exchange-2021 so everyone can see it! If you find you canāt finish your gift on time, let me know and Iāll contact the pinch-hitters. The pinch-hitter deadline is February 1st.
Have fun, everyone!
Welcome to the 2021 Redwall Midwinter Gift Exchange!
Welcome, everyone, to the second annual Redwall Midwinter Gift Exchange. This is aĀ āsecret Santaā type fanwork exchange where each participant makes a gift secretly for one other participant.
What are we making? Any type of fanwork you like; fic, art, poetry, comics. Signups are done by Google form, same as last year, and on the form you can make up to three requests for your gifter to choose from. These are mainly a guideline; your gifter may not be able to match them exactly, but they give a good starting point.
Basic ground rules are simple; since Redwall is a childrenās series, letās keep everything SFW, and keep any violence to reasonable canon-typical levels.
Signups will be open through December 19th. You should have your assignment on the 23rd, and your gifts should be posted on January 23rd. The pinch-hitter deadline is the 31st of January. (These dates may change, but Iāll make a post updating everyone if they do.)
When you post your gift, donāt forget to @mention your giftee and this blog, and tag it with #redwall midwinter gift exchange 2021, so everyone can see it.
A pinch-hitter is someone who volunteers to step in and pick up a second gift, in case someone isnāt able to complete theirs, so that everyone receives one. If you realize that you wonāt be able to finish your gift, just let me know and Iāll message the pinch-hitters to cover for you. No shame in it; sometimes life is very unpredictable!
With that all being said, you can sign up here! Itās very short and should only take a couple of minutes. And hereās hoping everyone has a warm and healthy winter.
Signups are open through the 19th, which is Saturday of this week!
Today is the last day to sign up!

Update
Okay, I got a lot of feedback from my last post and Iāve considered it all. Iāve decided I will move the exchange back; I for one am busy this year with other gift exchanges and a very unusual holiday season, and several people said theyād appreciate a later exchange in this corner of the internet, while several other people said they were indifferent.
With that in mind, Iāve renamed it the Redwall Midwinter Gift Exchange at the suggestion of @tinybookgirl and updated my URL to match. There were a lot of great suggestions for names, but I stuck with one that would be sort of self-explanatory.
Iāll open the signups on Sunday with a link to a Google form like last year. I have a tentative schedule after that: The signups will stay open through December 19th. Iāll have assignments out on the 23rd, and gifts should be posted on the 23rd of January. Pinch hitter deadline will be the 31st.
Again, this is subject to change, but basically thatās how things will go.
Iām Christian as well, but I donāt celebrate Christmas, or any holidays.
Personally Iām fine with it in December if others are as well. If you decide to move it to January, thatās cool too!
I look forward to participating!
Hmm, my reasoning for thinking of moving it to January was because a lot of gift exchanges are in December, so if people are doing others it might be easier. Plus thereās the regular hustle and bustle of December -- even people who donāt celebrate are bound to be affected by the culture at large. (No knowing how this year will alter that, though, and it might not be the same for everyone.)
Iāve actually been considering moving it back to January since very early this year, as a lot of people seemed to struggle with busy December stuff last year. People I had to call in pinch-hitters for usually cited unexpected IRL obligations, if they offered a reason. (I didnāt ask, specifically.)
I'm culturally Christian, so I don't know how helpful my input would be, but perhaps we could simply call it the "Redwall gift exchange" or maybe a "Redwall feast day" especially if we move it to January? There's a lot of other gift exchanges in December, moving to January might be for the best ultimately.
Iām also culturally Christian, and honestly didnāt think that much about it when I was organizing the event last year. Those are both pretty good names.
I feel like thereās a blog or group that does Redwall season names like in the books and we might do something with that, but some Googling didnāt turn anything up. Does anyone know anything about that?
Whatās up, Redwall Tumblr, itās me again. Iāve fallen into the pit of other fandoms lately buuuuuuuut I wanted to host another Redwall gift exchange this year. Before I do, though, I have two questions:
1. Some people expressed discomfort with it being labeled a secret santa, as they donāt celebrate Christmas, and Christmas isnāt really an in-universe holiday anyway. Thoughts/comments/suggestions?
2. Last year it seemed like a lot of people had trouble due to how busy December is. Would it be better to have the works posted in late January instead, giving people time to work on it during an ideally less hectic month?
Anyway, hope yāall are doing all right!

Redwall Gift Exchange: Old Wounds
Gift for @eulaliaaaaaa
Prompt:Ā Roseās ghost haunting the Abbey in some capacity like Martinās does.
*
Mattimeo ran. He was already out of breath and his legs felt like they were made of lead, but still he ran onward through the dark pine forest. Gasping and panting he forced himself onward from the terror which followed him. He couldnāt remember how long he had been running, but it felt like hours, and still the forest showed no sign of ending, and there was no hint of light to be seen. As he ran, Mattimeo heard things moving through the trees around him, accompanied by primal shrikes.

For @thegoldensoundtwice Merry late Christmas!
The Pinch-hitter deadline is this Monday, the 6th of January!
My (late) secret santa for @chelonianmobile for the redwall secret santa!! Blaggut with a barrel boat for some dibbuns. (Iāll probably draw something better for you later)
For the @redwall-secret-santa, I got @fuzzhugs! I saw your second request was something Redwall Hell related, and so of course I had to try to do that. I decided to see what a yule time event would be like there. I hope you enjoy and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!Ā

New Life
This is for the Redwall secret Santa gift exchange (@redwall-secret-santa). I had @theaggresivepacifist as my person. The prompt was their third request. "A short fluffy-ish fic where Romsca doesn't actually die but instead gets to go live at the Abbey."
Well here it is. It had been awhile since I read Pearls of Lutra, but, I wrote from what I remembered about the book and what I googled on names. I hope @theaggresivepacifist and everyone else enjoys this short fic.

It had been an interesting season, to say the least. After helping Grath Longfletch scene her family and saving the Abbot from Emperor Ublaz, Martin had been surprised when the about too him back to Romsca's ship. There, in the Galley pantry they found a very badly injured Romsca, who was starting to fade fast. Between Martin, Abbot Durral, and a few others they were able to save her. Now, Martin saw Romsca lounging by the Abbey pond enjoying the beautiful day they were having.
"You know, Martin," Romsca said as he approached to ask her a question or two, "if it were not for your Abbot, I more than likely would not be here now."
"Oh? What do you mean?" Martin replied. "I know he helped save you from death, but I am guessing you are talking about something else though."
"You guessed right, Martin. When I had your Abbot on my ship he impressed me with his actions and the kindness he showed me. Because of that, he showed me that what I was doing was wrong and that there was a better way. But I figured I would never be good enough to live in a place like this. This... Abbey." Romsca said to Martin.
"Ah. Now I understand, and I am very glad that you have decided to leave the other way and life behind you and join us here at the Abbey."
"I am glad too. This is such a beautiful and peaceful place. I am glad I came to your Abbey."
"I was going to ask you a couple of questions, but, it can wait till later." Martin said as he sat down beside Romsca in the grass.
"Oh? And what were your questions Warrior?"
"Well... My first question can wait for another day. My second question was... Are you hungry for lunch?" He asked as he got up from the ground.
"After tasting the food at Redwall Abbey? YOU BET I AM!!! And we better hurry if we want to get anything before Clecky eats all the food." Replied Romsca as she gingerly got up from the ground as well and started for Cavern Hole.
The End
Thanks to everyone who participated in the gift exchange!
Itās been fantastic to see all the great stuff people posted! I hope everyone had a wonderful winter holiday if they celebrate one, or a great December if they donāt!
Iāve reblogged as much as I could find in order to allow this blog to act as a sort of catalogue, but I may have missed some things. If anyone knows of anything I missed, message me and Iāll reblog it.
There are still one or two gifts that havenāt been posted yet; the pinch-hitter deadline is January 6th. If you havenāt received a gift and I havenāt messaged you to let you know itās been picked up by a pinch hitter, let me know and Iāll get in contact with your gifter.
Once again, thanks to everyone who participated, and a happy new year!
